APRIL 2015
With the arrival of some warmer weather comes rain, mud and
lots of water. As well there will still be some cool days. Please
dress your child appropriately for the temperature
and conditions of the day. Boots for the mud and
puddles are a great idea.
An extra pair of pants in your child’s knapsack
(regardless of grade) would be a great idea just in
case they slip fall in the wet grass & mud. This
could save you a trip to school in the middle of the
day.
Earth Hour Participation:
If you took part in Earth Hour on this past
weekend please take a moment to register your
participation on the KPRDSB website. We could
earn a banner for the school recognizing our
participation. Thank you.
Kindergarten Registration:
Kindergarten registration for the 2015
– 2016 is ongoing. Please contact
the office to register your child and
please share this news with friends
and neighbours who have kindergarten aged children.
North Cavan Night at Chapters - update
We didn’t raise $340.00 at the Chapters night, we raised over
$600.00 for the Library. Thank you,
Thank you, Thank you… to everyone
who came out to the North Cavan Night
at Chapters on Thurs. Feb. 26th. Our
next Chapters Night is Thursday May 28.
Congratulations to……
both Ben Westlake (Gr. 6) and Ainsley Dreossi (Gr. 3).
Ainsley came first in Millbrook and Lakefield.
Then at her third competition in Fenelon Falls she
placed 2nd. Ben has been advancing in the Lions
Club speaking competition. He has placed 1st in
rounds 1 & 2. His next competition is in Kingston
in a few weeks. Good Luck Ben.
North Cavan GIVES BACK to the community:
The ‘Duct Tape Mr. Sinclair to the
wall for Kawartha Food Share was
a huge success. As a school we
raised $606.80 then Councillor Tim
Belch donated $100 to make a total
of $707.80 for the Millbrook
Kawartha Food Share. Every
student got to place at least 1 piece
of tape on Mr. Sinclair and all of that tape actually held him up
on the wall for a short time. Thank you to Mrs. Jordan and her
team of volunteers for their Support. It was lots of fun for
everyone.
Upcoming New events & activities:
North Cavan Family Bowling Night
The North Cavan School Council is planning a
new and different Spring Family event this year.
On Friday May 1, 2015 from 6:00 pm to 8:00
pm North Cavan will be taking over all 24 lanes
of the Lakeview Bowl (109 George St. in
Peterborough)
*Cost is $25 per FAMILY which includes shoe rental for
everyone. Pizza can be purchased for $2 per slice (must be
pre-ordered) and drinks can be purchased there.
*We will also have a Silent Auction similar to past events and a
50/50 draw.
*We are looking for 6 more ‘Lane Sponsors’ for each of the
24 lanes. If you have a business that you would like to
advertise please contact the school office. For $60.00 you can
sponsor a lane which means your company’s name will be
prominently displayed at one of the lanes. If you’re able to
donate an item for the silent auction table please contact Mr.
Sinclair.

The Meet Your Needs Clothing Drive will take
place on Tuesday May 19 in Millbrook. This event
is in support of the Millbrook chapter of Kawartha
Food Share. We will be accepting any & all
donations of clothing at the school up until the
morning of the event. The grade 6 students will help with
moving and sorting of the clothes.

becoming too difficult to keep track of the orders and money.
THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS THANK YOU
We are very lucky at North Cavan to have such a strong
volunteer base. Thank you to all of our volunteers who help
with such things as: driving to events, School Council,
Breakfast Club, joining us on class trips, assisting at school
lunch events, school drama events, playground clean-up &
work, classroom helpers and there are many more.
All of the volunteers help to make North Cavan such an
awesome school community to be a part of and to learn in.
All of the North Cavan Volunteers are invited to a ‘Volunteer
Tea’ on Thursday April 30 from 1:10pm. To 2:00pm.
Immediately following the Tea all are welcome to stay to enjoy
the 2015 North Cavan Air Band Idol Show in the gym.
Those who can do…Those who can do more volunteer.
Mr. Sinclair has a new haircut:
The North Cavan Students &
families did it again. The challenge
to the students was to raise $1500
for Heart & Stroke. If the students
reached this goal Mr. Sinclair
would lose his hair and wear a
Montreal Canadians Jersey. As the picture shows, the students
reached their goal. In fact they raised over $3000.00. Thank
you to the students and families for their support. What an
amazing community we have here at North Cavan!!!!
Congratulations to our top fundraisers: Becky Jordan, Ronan
McCallum, Lillian Zeehuisen, Connor Lidstone, Jonathan
Turcotte, Chloe Laperle, Eric Nieman.
School Council:
The next North Cavan School Council meeting is on
Wednesday April 8 at 6:30pm in the library.
Good Character makes a difference:
This month’s character trait is Perseverance.
PERSEVERANCE IS THE WILLINGNESS OR ABILITY TO
STICK TO SOMETHING UNTIL IT’S COMPLETED.
“Be like a postage stamp and stick to something until you
get there”
Safe Arrival - (absent student):
When your child is absent or late please call the office and
leave a message with the date, your child’s name and teacher
At North Cavan we try to help create good character children
by encouraging students to be responsible, respectful,
honest and acting with integrity.
