Somalia Trip – Emirates Cable Car
Somalia had an exciting day on Tuesday as they
had a return flight on the Cable Cars in Docklands.
Well done for all being so brave and well behaved.

Far-flying Balloons
For their topic launch – Up, Up and Away –
Reception launched balloons with a message. On
Monday, Somalia received an email from a school
in Liverpool who found one of our balloons. We
couldn't believe that our balloon could travel so far
away!!
Year 4 Cake Sale
Thank you for contributing to our cake sale last
week. With such a fantastic range of delicious
treats on offer we have raised an amazing £164.38!
In light of the devastation caused in Nepal, due to
the earthquake that occurred at the weekend, we
have decided to donate the money to Unicef’s
Emergency Earthquake Appeal (for more details:
http://www.unicef.org.uk/landing-pages/DonateNepal-Earthquake/)
World War I Poetry
In the Spring Term, Years 4, 5 and 6 went to
Westminster Abbey and wrote some
beautiful poetry inspired by the events of
World War I. So impressed were the team
at the Abbey that they made this beautiful
display of Northwold pupils’ work around
the Grave of the Unknown Warrior.

Enabling Enterprise Challenge Day
On Friday 1st May, Years 1, 2 and 3 all worked on
challenges set by Sarah from Enabling Enterprise.
All classes worked on designing and making
greetings cards. Ibrahim in Spain said this – “We
designed and made our own greetings cards for
different occasions. We earned gold stars based on
how professional they looked! We had to pitch our
ideas to the judges at the end of the day. It was
really fun!”
Free School Meals – Free Check
If you think your child might be eligible for Free
School Meals, there is a free way to check this
online. London Grid for Learning (LGfL) have
created a website (link below), where you put in
your child’s details and find out if they are entitled
to Free School Meals. If they are, this will also
entitle the school to additional government
funding (called the Pupil Premium), which the
school can invest in more staff and resources to
improve our students’ education.
Please click on the link to see if your child is
entitled to Free School Meals - www.fsm.lgfl.net. If
your child is entitled, the school will be informed
directly as well. As a 'thank you' to parents for
making a check, and as an incentive to participate
(even if they believe their child would not be
eligible), LGfL is making available free of charge the
Sophos Anti-Virus software provided to LGfLconnected schools, to protect computers at home
used by pupils.

While the internet offers a wealth of opportunities,
it’s also important to browse with safety in mind.
We teach children to look both ways before
crossing the street, not to talk to strangers and
what to do if they get lost in a shopping mall, but
how much time is spent telling children how to
make safe choices online?
Wednesday Coffee Morning
The next coffee morning is on Wednesday 6th May
at 9.00am. Ms Kriel will be talking about current
developments at Northwold. We look forward to
seeing you there.
For today’s generation of children, making safe
choices is vital to their physical as well as their
cyber environments. Children today do not know of
a life before the internet. It is more important than
ever that our children are informed about the
inherent risks of going online. We will be publishing
advice on how to keep children safe in cyber space
on a regular basis. Watch this space.
After School Clubs
After School Clubs are now full. Please make sure
you have paid for the term or your child(ren) will
not be allowed to attend the club(s). You can ask to
be on the waiting list for the clubs, in case a space
becomes available. Ask Mr Braune or Cynthia.

Class Coffee Mornings
The Class Coffee mornings are a great success. It’s
a great chance to meet your child’s class teacher
and find out about what’s going on in their class.
Class Coffee Mornings will be every Monday and
Friday from 9.00-9.30am from now through to the
end of the whole school year. It’s also a great
chance to get to know other parents in the class.
See below for the classes’ full schedule.
