Backing Up and Restoring Proloquo2Go™ with iTunes The following guide is meant to help you understand how to backup and restore, as well as the rationale for the process used. Successfully backing up and restoring Proloquo2Go™ using iTunes requires that if you have a problem you change your iTunes settings to manual sync before connecting your iPhone or iPod, because if you automatic sync, you could overwrite your backup and no longer be able to restore from the backup. First the rationale for each step will be presented and on the following pages, the specific technical steps will be explained. It is important to back up, especially when you make major changes to Proloquo2Go. Creating a back up by syncing with iTunes or creating a manual back up in iTunes saves all of the data in Proloquo2Go, including system settings. This process may take quite some time, up to an hour, or just a few minutes, depending on how much data is on your device. 2. Make sure that you change the settings to sync manually if you want to restore. Imagine that somehow you delete Proloquo2Go off of your iPod or iPhone. You plug it in and “pow” it syncs your “changes”. You do not want your error or deletion of Proloquo2Go to be saved. For this reason, if you need to restore make sure to first set iTunes to sync manually. It gives you the control to plug in your device and Restore if you ever happen to delete Proloquo2Go. 3. You can restore from a backup. After making sure iTunes is set to sync manually, you simply plug your device back in and click restore. When prompted, choose the correct backup. This process may take quite some time, up to an hour, or just a few minutes, depending on how much data is on your device. © 2009 AssistiveWare 1 1. It is important to back up regularly, especially when you make major changes to Proloquo2Go. iTunes backs up your device when you sync or you can backup manually. Manual backup directions: Plug in your device. You can then find your device in iTunes under Devices on the left hand column. Right click (or control-click on a Mac) and select Back Up. A backup will be created. You will be able to see your backups in the Device section of Preferences as seen in the figure in step two. 2. If you delete Proloquo2Go or there is a problem and you want to restore for some reason, be sure that before you plug in your device you change your settings so the device syncs manually. The reason for this is that if you have auto sync on, you may overwrite your backup. 1. In iTunes, go to iTunes, and Preferences. 2. Then under Devices, check Disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods. © 2009 AssistiveWare 2 3. You can restore from a backup. If for some reason, you delete Proloquo2Go or want to revert to your backup, you can use the restore feature. 1. You will need to restore the device from the screen shown here, under Summary. First click Restore. 2. Then choose, Donʼt Back Up 3. The device will go through a series of steps 4. When it is finished, you will be prompted. Choose Restore from the backup and select the appropriate backup. Be patient.
