Presentation Parish Divorced/Separated Support Group
You don’t have to
go through it alone
Presentation Parish offers a weekly mutual-help support group for Catholics struggling due to
separation or divorce. The support group meets on Wednesday evenings at 6:45 p.m. in the
Log House, located just south of the church at 105 SW Murray Rd.
This is an ongoing group and weekly attendance is not required. For more information,
contact the Pastoral Care Office, 251-1102, or e-mail [email protected].
The Group is:
• an experience of God’s love and strength
• a way to regain self confidence
• a positive way to see new paths in life
• a place where anonymity and confidentiality is respected
The Group is not:
• a gripe session
• a place to find a date
• a negative experience
• rigid
Comments from participants:
“I receive non-judgmental acceptance and learn from others who have bore the same trials as I have. It helps me learn to cope with the
new issues that are in front of me.”
“I had been divorced for 14 years when I first came. I thought I had moved as far as I could. The group assisted me in moving forward.
Now I come for ongoing support and to assist others.”
“The group helps me to realize that the roller coaster of feelings I have is normal as I experience the most traumatic events of my life.
I cope poorly at times but have learned here that this will pass and to put faith in God. God will get me through this,
I cannot do it alone.”
“This group has helped me to realize that this is not my fault, and that there is strength from within.”
“I can express my true feelings without being judged and without worrying that what I say will hurt someone. It helps me work through
my issues and frustrations.”
“This support group has benefitted me and assisted me to find my way through a difficult time. The group supports each other by
listening to each other’s stories and provides moral support to the person who needs to verbalize their pain and heartache in a supportive
and anonymous environment. I have learned to deal with the issues that come from divorce whether by sharing or by listening
and learning.”
“During my divorce process, this group has been my sounding board and my spiritual support. I have watched myself grow from a
frightened individual to a strong and confident person.”

Thoughts From Fr. Tom
In the Gospel for this Fifth Sunday of Easter
Jesus makes another one of his “I Am” statements.
He says: I am the vine, you are the branches.
Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear
much fruit, because without me you can do
nothing. This image Jesus uses is really an invitation
into a relationship with him. When we remain with
Jesus and stay connected to him as a branch on the
vine, we will bear the fruit of our faith. But as
branches on the vine we also need to be pruned in
order to bear more fruit. Jesus reminds us that we are
pruned by his Word when we allow it to take root in
our lives and are willing to follow his example of
love. Do our words and actions reflect our connection to the Vine? In what areas do our lives need to
be pruned so that we can bear the good fruit of our
faith?
Since the resignation of Bishop Finn, a number
of people have asked me about my reaction to his
resignation and what I think will happen in the
future. While it is unfortunate that conditions existed
for such a decision to happen, I do feel that a change
of leadership was necessary in order for our diocese
to move forward in good ways. Over the past several
years, there has seemed to exist a fair amount of
division among the people and the priests of our
diocese. Some healing needs to happen in order to
bring people together and unite around our common
faith. When Archbishop Naumann, our Apostolic
Administrator, met with the priests of the diocese a
little over a week ago, he felt that his time as our
interim leader would be short. While he acknowledged that there is no definite timeline for the
appointment of our new bishop, he also mentioned
that the circumstances of our situation would warrant
a timely response. At this point, a priority for all of
us should be to pray. Pray for a new bishop who can
bring healing and unity. Pray for a new bishop who
can inspire us in our faith and provide a vision that
will build up the good work of the church here in our
diocese. Please pray!
May is the month of Mothers. We celebrate the
gift of our mothers on Mother’s Day next weekend,
May 9-10. We will offer a special blessing of
mothers at all the Masses and also pass out Mother’s
Day carnations. The entire month of May is also
dedicated to our Blessed Mother, Mary. As the
Mother of all the faithful, she unites us together in
the love of her Son. We will be honoring our Blessed
Mother in a special way at our May Crowning this

SCHOOL NEWS
This quarter, 8th grade students, under the
direction of Science teacher, Mr. Terry
Nyhan, have been participating in an
Exploratory Class called Rocket Science:
“The Moon and Beyond.” They
constructed their own rockets out of 2 liter
soda bottles and launched them, trying at
least to achieve orbit. Although their goal
was not quite reached, they did produce
flights that were truly spectacular and
sometimes acrobatic. Next year, we hope to
achieve land speed records by building
mouse trap cars!
