We pray for young mothers, who give life and count toes and tend to our every need; May they be blessed with patience and tenderness to care for their families and themselves with great joy. We pray for our own mothers who have nurtured and cared for us; May they continue to guide us in strong and gentle ways. We remember mothers who are separated from their children because of war, poverty, or conflict; May they feel the loving embrace of our God who wipes every tear away. We pray for women who are not mothers but still love and shape us with motherly care and compassion. We remember mothers. grandmothers, and great-grandmothers who are no longer with us but who live forever in our memory and nourish us with their love. Amen. 2 Thoughts From Fr. Tom Jesus continues to share with us in today’s Gospel how we are to remain in his love. This is a continuation of last Sunday’s Gospel about the vine and branches. Jesus says: If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love. And then he gets very specific when he says: This is my commandment: love one another as I love you. To love as Jesus loves is the most important commandment and is how we remain in him. Jesus reminds us how deep his love goes when he says: No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. Jesus gave his life for us and he calls us to live this same sacrificial love in our lives. How can we follow this commandment of love more fully? In what ways would our relationships, marriages, families, and communities be stronger if we imitated Jesus’ way of love? HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to all the mothers in our community. Our mothers bless us with the gift of life and are called to be a reminder for us of God’s love. We are grateful for the sacrifices our mothers make and the many ways they teach us about love and faith. While we celebrate our mothers in a special way this weekend, let us give thanks for them every day through our love and prayers. All-loving God, we give you thanks and praise for mothers young and old. We remember mothers, grandmothers, and great-grandmothers who are no longer with us but who live forever in our memory and nourish us with their love. Amen.
