The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) send out observers to schools in a random selection to oversee the process and we had one of those visits this week. As would be expected for our school, everything was perfectly in order and the observer was very impressed with the process. Students were encouraged to do their best and focus on demonstrating what they know. Parents will receive an individual report on their child’s performance in term three. Education Week is next week and we invite both current and prospective parents to come and be part of our school through attending a tour or the Open Morning or Evening. 14th May 2015 Volume 43, No 14 I will conduct tours on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9.30am and 2pm and present an information session for prospective Foundation (Prep) parents at 6.45pm. Classrooms will be open from 6.15pm and parents are invited to visit their child’s classroom first to collect their POPS Passport, they will then use this passport to tour the school and take part in learning activities. When the passport is completed students will receive a small prize. The evening will conclude with a performance of both junior and senior choir at 7.15pm in the Arts Centre. I look forward to showcasing our wonderful school. STUDENT ENGAGEMENT Congratulations to Mrs Carbone for the excellent school Cross Country last Wednesday; the weather was magnificent, all children were engaged and the organisation was outstanding. Thank you to the teachers and the many, many parents who helped out and attended; all these factors enabled the event to be the success it was. Thank you to the parents who have already volunteered to host students from China in July. We have 15 students attending and at our last meeting we decided that the students will be grouped in six groups of two and one group of three. The students will be hosted by POPS families for three of the seven nights; Wednesday-Friday, July 22-24. The students will be involved in activities at the school during the day and then return home with their host family at the end of the school days. Please contact me if you would like to host our exchange students, this is exciting and very valuable for our school. COMMUNITY Parents may be aware that public hearings started last week as part of the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission (IBAC) investigation into the Education Department. The IBAC is investigating the circumstances in which the Department, its employees and/or former employees designated certain government schools as “banker schools”, and the alleged misuse of funds going through these schools. This inquiry only affects a small number of schools and our school is not one of these schools. The financial operations and governance of Park Orchards Primary School are adhered to meticulously and parents have no need to be concerned. Information about IBAC inquiry can be found on the Department website at www.education.vic.gov.au 13/05/15_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Park Orchards Primary School The school Annual Report for 2014 will be presented at the School Council meeting next week from 7.30- 7.45pm.
