The event promises to be the most exciting and glamorous awards night in the showbiz calendar. Every year Britain’s soaps make us laugh, cry and gasp in amazement in equal measure. This year has been no exception, with the revelation of Lucy Beale’s killer in EastEnders, Steve McDonald’s depression storyline in Coronation Street, Katie Sugden’s untimely death in Emmerdale, a horrific train crash in Hollyoaks and a spy amongst the ranks in Doctors. The British Soap Awards honour the very best work in Coronation Street, Doctors, EastEnders, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks, with the enthusiastic support of their casts and crews in the audience. As ever, the trophies are presented by some of the entertainment world’s brightest and most famous faces. Viewers can find out who they have voted Best Actor and Actress, and who will be receiving this year’s prestigious Outstanding Achievement awards. The main event of the evening is the coveted title of Best British Soap. Other hotly contested awards handed out on the night include Best Dramatic Performance, Best Comedy Performance, Best Newcomer, Scene of the Year, Best Storyline, Best Single Episode and Best On Screen Partnership. Home Fires Sunday 17th May, 9pm Acclaimed actresses Francesca Annis and Samantha Bond lead an ensemble cast in the third episode of this six-part wartime drama series. The cast also includes Ruth Gemmell, Mark Bonnar, Claire Rushbrook, Mark Bazeley, Frances Grey and Ed Stoppard. The series follows a group of inspirational women in a rural Cheshire community as the shadow of World War II casts a dark cloud over their lives. The isolated village feels a world away from the bloodshed and battlefields, but is not immune from the effects of war. As the conflict takes hold, separating the women from their husbands, fathers, sons and brothers, the characters find themselves under increasing pressure. By banding together as the Great Paxford Women’s Institute, they help to maintain the nation’s fabric in its darkest hour, and discover inner resources that will ITV.com change their lives for ever. In this week’s episode, everyone is forced to make sacrifices as war starts to impact on the village. As Pat’s (Rushbrook) marriage deteriorates, Kate (Rachel Hurd-Wood) and Jack’s (Adam Long) relationship intensifies. Adam (Bonnar) and Stanley (Chris Coghill) both have difficult decisions to make, while Claire (Daisy Badger) finally plucks up the courage to ask Spencer (Mike Noble) out. Finally, when Alison (Fenella Woolgar) resorts to desperate measures to pay a bill, she soon realises that she will have to pay a much higher price for her actions. Week 20/21 16th - 22nd May 2015 Man & Beast with Martin Clunes Friday 22nd May, 9pm In the second half of this two-part documentary, Martin Clunes continues his journey around the world to investigate the extraordinary relationship between man and beast. Martin examines how pet ownership in Japan is increasing, with more than 24 million cats and dogs sharing the pavements of the country’s already crowded cities. He hears about the story of Hachiko, an Japanese Akita who waited every evening for his master to come off the train from work. When his owner died, Hachiko continued to meet the evening train for nine years. His loyalty so touched the public that they erected a statue to him in Tokyo. In Nepal, Martin visits a snake charmer, overcoming his fear of the creatures. Although now banned in the country, the custom persists in rural communities. Martin learns that charming the reptiles with pipes is a total illusion since snakes are deaf – they are simply terrified! In Thailand, he meets the owners of small birds called bubuls who place bets with each other to see whose bird can sing the loudest. In Bangkok, he watches how the thread is teased out of silkworms in an activity which has not changed for thousands of years. Back in Britain, he joins a group of smartly dressed men and takes part in the ancient custom of swan-upping on the Thames. He meets the Queen’s swan marker David Barber (pictured left), who is responsible for collecting information and ringing the birds as proof that they belong to the sovereign. Scammers Monday 18th May, 9pm Jamie Theakston narrates this brand new documentary looking at the dramatic increase in people in the UK being conned and swindled by all kinds of new technology. Britain is under siege from scammers who are using cyberspace to rob people blind. They might not use a crowbar or wear a balaclava to break into our homes or steal our lives, but scamming is another form of burglary and it is out of control. A vast number of crimes in the UK involve some form of cyber criminal, and the Government is putting millions of pounds into new specialist police units to identify and catch these 21st-century crooks. It is estimated that scamming now costs the UK economy at least £27 billion a year – and this figure is just based on the reported crimes. This documentary investigates the problem and reveals some of the heart-rending stories of victims who have fallen foul of the scammers. These include a woman who fell for a romance scam which cost her £180,000 and a teenager who committed suicide after being conned by a crook pretending to be the police. ITV.com Week 20/21 16th - 22nd May 2015 Wild Ireland Monday 18th May, 8pm Presenter Christine Bleakley– herself originally from County Down – presents the series in which she drives, climbs, walks and swims her way along the longest coastal route in the world, Ireland’s 1500-mile Wild Atlantic Way. The route passes through counties and three provinces, stretching from County Donegal’s Inishowen Peninsula to Kinsale in County Cork on the Celtic Sea coast. Along the way there are places and attractions which have been points of interest and pilgrimage for travellers over the generations. Lough Swilly was the departure point for many Irish people leaving for the New World during the great famine of 1847. Originally built by the Normans, Doe Castle became a base for a British garrison during the nineteenth century. Bundoran has become a destination for surfers in recent years – for those brave enough to face the waves that crash in off the ocean. At Streedagh beach, there are shipwrecks left behind by the Spanish Armada on their ill-fated attempt to reach home in 1588.In the final episode in the series, Christine travels across the open ocean in Ireland's only cable car. On Mizen Head, she explores the treacherous waters around Ireland’s most south westerly point and joins the coastguard for the day. As her journey along the longest continuous coastal route in the world comes to an end, Christine casts her line for one more Irish passion – fishing. The Delivery Man Wednesday 20th May, 9.30pm Darren Boyd, Paddy McGuinness, Fay Ripley and Aisling Bea star in the comedy series set in a busy maternity ward. Disillusioned cop Matthew (Boyd), having decided that he is too warm and caring to be a custodian of the law, leaves his job and trains for a new career as a male midwife. The show features many characters from the hospital including senior midwife Caitlin (Ripley), doctor Luke (Alex McQueen) naïve troublemaker Tash (Jennie Jacques) and nurses Lisa (Bea) and Pat (Llewella Gideon). As Matthew finds himself catapulted into a woman’s world, he soon finds himself joined by his best mate and excopper Ian (McGuinness), who becomes a member of the hospital staff as a security guard. Unlike Matthew, Ian makes no attempts to get in touch with his feminine side – he simply doesn’t have one. So far in the series, the team have had to ITV.com contend with teenage parents, a double dad with two partners in the labour ward at the same time, a pregnant prisoner on release to give birth, a celebrity who is trying to remain incognito, and an abandoned baby. In the final episode, ‘Theft’, the drugs cupboard is raided and a forensic team have to be called in – one of whom is Matthew’s ex. Things turn sticky when she makes it clear that they have unfinished business and she wants them to get back together. Ryan (Joe Da Costa) is back and Caitlin has a date with Luke. One midwife is about to get a proposal of marriage. With guest stars Kelly Adams and Jane Dowden. Week 20/21 Britain’s Got Talent 16th - 22nd May 2015 Saturday 16th May, 8pm Ant and Dec continue to present the ninth exciting series of Britain's biggest talent search. The current judging panel of comedian David Walliams, singer Alesha Dixon, actress Amanda Holden and talent show supremo Simon Cowell have returned for the fourth year running, hoping to uncover the next superstar. Auditions have been held across the country in a bid to find a variety act fit for royalty and worthy of a big cash prize, with the judges attending performances in Edinburgh, Manchester, Birmingham and London. Previous contestants, including singers Paul Potts and Susan Boyle, dog act Ashleigh and Pudsey and last year’s winners Collabro, have gone on to achieve success across the globe. The judges provide as much entertainment as the acts themselves as they debate the talent and entertainment value of each wannabe superstar. None of the hopefuls wish to hear the dreaded sound of the judges' buzzers, but if all four judges push them, the audition will be cut short and the dream will be over. This year sees the return of the golden buzzer, which enables each judge – plus Ant and Dec – to send one act straight through to the live semi-finals regardless of the other judges’ opinions. Ant and Dec wait in the wings to provide support, either joining in the celebrations or offering a shoulder to cry on, as the acts exit the stage. Which of the acts will be returning for another performance and the chance to take the stage at this year's Royal Variety Show, as well as pocketing the £250,000 prize? Newzoids Wednesday 20th May, 9pm This brand new topical puppet animation sketch show pokes fun at pop stars, politicians, sports personalities and TV favourites, depicting our most talked about famous faces in a way they have never been seen before. Imagine a world where David Cameron and Nick Clegg battle it out on Jeremy Kyle, where Ed Miliband joins Ant and Dec on I’m a CatastropheM Get Me Out of Here! and where Professor Brian Cox finds an extraordinary new planet in the solar system – Kim Kardashian’s backside. The six-part series features a combination of high-energy puppetry, snappy writing and pinpoint accurate impressions, sending up the week’s news events using a cast of outrageous and off-the-wall characters based on some of the world’s most prolific celebrities. Nicky delves into six timeless love songs that map every contour of the human heart in just three minutes. In celebrating the dazzling lyrics, unforgettable tunes and thrilling rhythms, he also discovers the troubled geniuses who wrote them – from George Gershwin, the gifted prodigy who was the son of Jewish immigrants, to Fats Waller, Harlem’s larger-than-life lothario, and Cole Porter, a sparkling socialite with a secret double life. Nicky’s six songs are Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart’s Manhattan, George and Ira Gershwin’s haunting torch song The Man I Love, and Fats Waller’s playful Ain’t Misbehavin’. Celebrity Squares Sunday 17th May, 7.15pm The classic comedy game show continues its second series on ITV this week following a successful revival in 2014. Based on the famous American game show Hollywood Squares, this is the show’s third UK incarnation, with the original series having aired between 1975 and 1979 and a second between 1993 and 1997, both hosted by the late, great Bob Monkhouse. The host this time around is actor and presenter Warwick Davis, also seen recently on ITV with the second outing of his Weekend Escapes series. The idea of the game is simple – two ‘civilian’ contestants play a giant version of noughts and crosses, with celebrity guests housed in nine square boxes. The contestants decide whether ITV.com their chosen celebrity has answered each question correctly, gaining a square for each correct decision until one of them has three squares in a row or five squares in total, to bank money and win the round. The contestant who wins the most prize money then has the chance to play for a £25,000 jackpot. In the fifth show, Warwick is joined by Scissor Sisters singer Ana Matronic, Dragons Den panellist Duncan Bannatyne, comedians Sarah Millican, Joe Lycett, Milton Jones and Melvin Odoom, presenters Tess Daly and Rickie Haywood Williams and resident comedians Tim Vine and Joe Wilkinson. Week 20/21 16th - 22nd May 2015 Celebrity Juice Thursday 21st May, 10pm ITV2’s favourite Yorkshireman Keith Lemon continues the thirteenth series of TV’s ultimate guilty viewing pleasure this week. The hilarious comedy panel show remains the most popular show on the channel, continuing to reach audiences of well over a million viewers each week as more big name celebrities line up to appear. After a memorable stint as guest captain, This Morning’s cheeky chef Gino D’Acampo has now settled in his role as a permanent guest panellist alongside team captains Fearne Cotton and Holly Willoughby. Hell’s Kitchen Tuesday 19th May, from 9pm Multi-award-winning British chef Gordon Ramsay concludes the thirteenth series of his dramafilled US cooking competition with a final double bill of shows. As the Michelin-starred superchef puts the contestants – who all have a catering background – through their paces, only one hopeful will emerge victorious with a head chef position at one of his renowned eateries. As ever, the men (blue team) have gone up against the women (red team) for each challenge, with luxurious rewards for the winners and drudgery and misery for the losers each week. In the first of this week’s shows, the four remaining chefs are reunited with their loved ones for a taste test, with the winner dining out with their family at a posh restaurant. Dinner service that evening is a special affair as it marks the 200th ITV.com dinner service in the show’s history, and some familiar faces from previous series return as diners. Gordon is sure he has chosen the right final four, but which two chefs will advance to the final? In the final episode, Gordon’s top two feel the pressure as they prepare their final menus. Will a simple or more adventurous approach win the day? The pair do not have long to ponder before they are given a surprise challenge to cook in front of a live audience, with the winner getting first choice of their final dinner service team from former competitors. Week 20/21 16th - 22nd May 2015 Mob Wives Sunday 17th and Wednesday 20th May, 10pm ITVBe continues the second series of this hard-hitting reality TV series on Sunday and Wednesday evenings. The show follows the lives of several women whose husbands and fathers, all connected to the Mafia, are often in and out of prison. The “connected” Renee Graziano, Carla Facciolo and Drita D'Avanzo are no strangers to the good life, but now, with their husbands and fathers behind bars, they realise there is a price to pay as they are forced to adjust to life in Staten Island, New York while their men are serving time. The second season continues on Sunday with a typically explosive episode entitled The Ultimate Betrayal, which sees Renee facing double devastation as both Junior and her father end up in jail. Big Ang tries to cheer her up with a visit to a drag show, but an internet story concerning Junior soon surfaces, bringing with it far-reaching consequences for all the ladies. In Wednesday’s episode, What Goes Around, the true extent of Junior’s betrayal emerges, leaving Renee in a paranoid state. Meanwhile, Drita struggles to reconcile her love of violence with being a good parental role model. Vicious Sunday 17th May, from 10pm ITV3 offers viewers another chance to see the first two episodes of the sitcom starring Ian McKellen and Derek Jacobi as a gay couple who have lived together in the same small London flat for nearly 50 years. Freddie Thornhill (McKellen) was a promising young actor and Stuart Bixby (Jacobi) a barman when they first met, but now in the twilight of their lives they spend their time reading, walking the dog and snapping at each other. In episode one, Freddie and Stuart are hosting a wake to mark the passing of an old friend. As they are joined by their small circle of elderly chums, the couple manage to create a toecurlingly awkward evening with very little food but plenty of bitchy insults. ITV.com Their new young upstairs neighbour Ash (Iwan Rheon) whose sexuality becomes a subject of great debate spends the evening attempting to be the perfect guest, while fending off the advances of Freddie and Stuart's best friend Violet (Frances de la Tour). In episode two, the pair go shopping for a new coat for Freddie's Dr Who fan club event. Their new young neighbour Ash needs advice on how he should go about winning back his ex-girlfriend. Violet is more than happy to help, and along with Penelope (Marcia Warren), she and Ash head off to the shops, where they make a shocking discovery. Week 20/21 16th - 22nd May 2015 MotoGP Highlights * Monday 18th May, 8pm ITV4 continues its coverage of this season’s motorcycling MotoGP with highlights of the fifth round from Le Mans. This year’s season is shaping up very differently to 2014, when reigning champion Marc Marquez ran away with the championship in the opening few rounds. The Spanish rider had a nightmare start to his 2015 campaign in Qatar but bounced back to win the next round in Texas. He currently lies in fourth place in the standings with the Movistar Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi leading following his win in Argentina, his second of the season so far. Both drivers were impressive in the last round in Spain, Marquez coming second with Rossi third behind Movistar Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo. This sets things up Code of a Killer nicely for this week’s Monster Energy Grand Prix de France in Le Mans. Marquez won the corresponding round last year with Rossi in second place. The great Italian rider, a ninetimes world champion, will be hoping to turn the tables on his young rival this year. The 4.2 km circuit is a tight track dominated by first-gear corners, placing the emphasis on a mix of late breaking and hard acceleration. Saturday 16th May, from 9pm Showing this week on ITV Encore, this two-part drama from the director of Broadchurch and the producers of Line of Duty stars David Threlfall and John Simm. Based on a true story, the film also features Lorcan Cranitch, Robert Glenister, Anna Madeley, Paul Copley and Andrew Tiernan. In 1984, Dr Alec Jeffreys (Simm), a University of Leicester scientist, unlocks a remarkable technique which can read every single human being’s unique DNA fingerprint. Just four miles away, tenacious detective DCS David Baker (David Threlfall) is leading the search for the murderer of a local schoolgirl, 15-year-old Lynda Mann. Baker has his suspicions, but cannot prove anything. Two years later, another 15-year-old schoolgirl, Dawn Ashworth, is murdered. A local teenager is arrested and confesses to the second murder but vehemently denies having had anything to do with the first. Convinced that the same man murdered both girls, DCS Baker turns to Dr Jeffreys, whose analysis of the DNA evidence yields the worst imaginable result – the teenager who confessed in innocent. Although Jeffreys’ test has so far only been used in immigration and paternity cases, Baker proposes the extraordinary idea of testing the blood of every man in the area in order to seek a match. The Home Office eventually agree to the test being used, but only if the mass screening involved is voluntary. Can the two men convince their opponents and persuade over 5,000 men to voluntarily take the blood test? ITV.com Week 20/21 16th - 22nd May 2015 Gracepoint Wednesday 20th May, 10pm The American crime drama series about two detectives investigating the murder of a boy in a small, tightly-knit coastal town, based on Broadchurch and also starring David Tennant as Detective Emmett Carver with Anna Gunn as Detective Ellie Miller, continues. In episode eight, as Tom (Jack Irvine) is found, safe but with some minor cuts from falling off his bicycle, he tells his parents and Carver that he was looking for Pierson after he saw the name in Ellie's casebook and wanted to ask about Danny. After interrogating Pierson, Carver is told by Mark (Michael Pena) about Paul's (Kevin Rankin) obsession with Beth (Virginia Kull) – and that he was spotted at a Narcotics Anonymous meeting. Beth meets the mother of the child victim in the Rosemont case, who is now addicted to alcohol and pills and sleeps a lot. This deeply affects Beth, who later decides to keep her unborn child. Carver speaks with Paul, who feels that the town needs him again in order to cope. He also suggests that Carver will become the next outcast because the townsfolk get more suspicious every day that he fails to find the killer. Susan (Jacki Weaver) gives Danny's skateboard to Tom before going to the newspaper office, where Kathy (Alisen Down) informs her that her past is now known. She is arrested but will not talk until they find her dog, which Vince (Stephen Louis Grush) has stolen. Paul finds Tom trying to destroy his laptop. When it is reported that a flashlight has been seen inside the beach house, Ellie and Carver investigate. They set off in pursuit of the intruder, but are forced to stop when Carver collapses. Horrid Henry Monday 18th - Friday 22nd May, from 4.15pm The adventures of the ever popular and mischievous antihero continue on CITV. Henry is horrid, a fact which will be readily confirmed by his parents, his younger brother, his teachers, neighbours and relatives. If someone has put itching powder in someone's swimming trunks, sold their brother as a slave, or flattened all the tents on the family camping holiday, the culprit is certain to be Henry. Henry is well known to viewers as Lord High Excellent Majesty of the Purple Hand Gang and loves money, comics and practical jokes. What he hates are brothers, injections, homework and well-meaning adults. As far as Henry is concerned, life is simply not fair and the whole world is against him. He is forced to put up with his brother Perfect Peter, his parents, his nemesis Moody Margaret, and his form teacher Miss Battle-Axe. But he does have a best friend in Rude Ralph, who is almost as horrible as Henry himself! ITV.com Episodes this week include Horrid Henry Knows it All, in which Henry hears that there are Killer Boy Rats concert tickets for sale and nothing is going to stop him getting his hands on them! In Horrid Henry and the Hit Song, Henry is all set to make the best music video ever, but this is not that easy when everyone wants to be in on the act! I Am Not a Hamster sees Henry find out that sometimes you can take your best friends for granted, especially when your best friend is a hamster – or is he? In Horrid Henry and the Single Sock Saga, it is sock sorting time again, but this time Henry finds that he has a secret helper – or maybe not! She tells him that she wants full control over Archie’s life, but Jai has the measure of her and scuppers her plan to take the boy and disappear. Robert tells Chas and Aaron that he is moving back in with Chrissie, but Aaron accuses him of being in denial about being gay. Back at Home Farm, Robert finds himself blackmailed by Lachlan, who wants his laptop back. Laurel is ostracised by the entire village and Marlon warns her to stay away until she is sober. One by one her friends refuse her money and when her bank card is declined as she tries to buy a bottle of vodka, she ends up in a nondescript bar where men start to buy her drinks. When Carly suggests to Bob that she buy David’s shop, he is delighted that she has decided to stay. When she is turned down by the bank, however, he suggests to an incredulous Brenda that they take out a loan and buy it for her. Meanwhile, Val and Pollard are puzzled by David’s refusal to accept any offer at all from Chrissie. Will David and Alicia ever make it to a new life in Portugal? Debbie tries to cover her concern when she sees Ross’s battered face as he explains that he has been bare-knuckle fighting to try to clear his debt to Charlie. Realising how uncaring she has been, Victoria quickly arranges a surprise party in Betty’s honour – but it is Betty herself who is about to surprise everyone. Coronation Street David tries one last time to strike a deal with Callum to avoid court, but he refuses. David tries to remain calm as Callum’s lawyer rakes up his past during the hearing. David accuses Sarah of selling him out, but it later turns out that Bethany is to blame. A drunk and maudlin David threatens to blow Andy’s cover during a family meal. Sally is forced to agree when Faye insists on staying with her and Tim, who invites Anna over for tea in an attempt to build bridges. After a lot of bickering, the family pull together to organise Miley’s christening. In a bid to get his plan moving, Tony makes sure that Steve is made aware of Liz’s plan to move back to Spain. With Steve’s blessing, Liz decides to sell her share of the pub, on the condition that Steve and Michelle still run it. Steve’s stag do proves too stressful and he backs out, leaving the rest of the group languishing in Liverpool. Lloyd ends up stranded on a fishing trawler, leaving Andrea wondering if he will make it back for the wedding. Meanwhile, during Michelle’s hen do Carla offers to buy Liz’s share of the Rovers. Tony, dreading Tracy’s wrath, reels as he tries to find a way of securing his deal before Carla takes over. Zeedan seeks revenge on Tony. Erica subtly tries to distract Nick away from Carla.
