Course Overview
Unique cases, in addition to the advances in diagnosis and treatment of
gastrointestinal (GI) disorders, challenge GI practitioners to remain up to
date on the most current data. The course addresses developments in
research, clinical trials, techniques, and treatments, providing GI clinicians
the opportunity to stay abreast of the information and interpret its impact
on clinical practices, thus improving the quality of patient care.
Target Audience
This course is designed for practicing physicians, nurses, physician
assistants, and nurse practitioners in gastroenterology, internal medicine,
family practice, and gastrointestinal surgery.
Learning Objectives
After completing this educational activity, the participant will be able to do
the following:
• Review the most current evidence on liver diseases including
management of portal vein thrombosis and emerging therapies for
biliary cirrhosis and primary sclerosing cholangitis;
• Discuss nutritional concerns and other areas of care in pregnant
patients with GI tract disorders with a focus on liver disease and
inflammatory bowel disease (IBD);
• Describe the most up to date medical approaches to obesity and
nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH);
• Compare pros and cons of endoscopy uses for treating upper GI
bleeding, evaluating pancreatic cysts, and managing difficult cases
of polypectomy;
• Describe optimal practices for using endoscopic therapy for IBD and
minimizing toxicity from IBD therapy;
• Summarize recent evidence on eosinophilic esophagitis, achalasia
therapy, and treatments of Barrett’s esophagus;
