As a vital part of Richmond, Chevron
strives to encourage a robust and
diverse business climate in the
Richmond community. In addition to
the jobs at the refinery and Richmond
Technology Center, we also support
many more jobs indirectly through the businesses —
large and small — that provide goods and services to
support our operations.
Over the past several years, we have been working to
increase the services and products purchased from local
businesses and contractors and will continue to look for
opportunities to do so. We’re proud to report that in the
last year, we increased our local spend by 28 percent,
from $57.7 million in 2013 to $73.9 million. In this
newsletter, we feature several of those Richmond-area
businesses that help us keep this refinery in operation,
from providing food service to mechanical contracting.

Grapevine Janitorial is a local, woman and minorityowned business that has provided janitorial
services to the Richmond Refinery since 1988. One
of the best parts of working at Chevron is being
able to hire Richmond residents, including Eddie
Morris and our longest-serving employee, Palvis
Minniefield, who has worked for Grapevine at
Chevron since we founded this company 26 years
ago. Chevron has been a client since the beginning
and, as a Richmond resident, it’s meaningful to
know that the company supports small businesses
like ours. We’ve shared a long and fruitful
relationship, and we are grateful for the
opportunity.

Compass Group
BY CELESTE PRICE
Compass Group provides food services to the Chevron
Refinery in Richmond and many other Chevron
operations around the world. For the past 10 years,
Compass has serviced Chevron locations across the
United States and as far as Kazakhstan. In December,
Compass expanded the partnership to the Richmond
Refinery. Proudly providing café and catering services
to the refinery, Compass takes seriously the
opportunities to hire locally. In support of the Bay Area
Rescue Mission, prepackaged and non-perishable foods
are provided to families in need. Compass is also
planning to partner with local restaurants, who meet the
food safety and legal requirements, to extend their
foods and services to the refinery cafe.
Plant Reclamation

Plant Reclamation is a family-owned and operated
business that specializes in industrial demolition in
refineries and chemical plants. We not only remove
machinery and equipment, but we also recycle the
materials in a safe, efficient and environmentally
friendly manner. We have worked with Chevron since
1970s when William “Bill” Glueck started the company
in Richmond. Since the beginning, our priority has been
to promote the workforce in Richmond. As a Richmond
native, I’ve personally had the opportunity to be
mentored by Chevron professionals and excel as a
contractor as a result. Chevron is a family environment,
and we value our strong and long-standing partnership.
Dan Moitoza is a project manager for Plant Reclamation
located at 912 Harbour Way South in Richmond.

What do you like best about your job?
My favorite part of my job is the interaction with people. It’s nice
to be able to help our suppliers and customers accomplish their
goals, whether that means getting an invoice paid or just helping
them find out what they need to know to start doing business
with Chevron.
What do you like best about working at Chevron?
Chevron has provided the greatest opportunity to be able to
interact with the community, whether it’s volunteering, dining
out or getting involved in civic issues. My children go to school in
Richmond, and last year I probably volunteered more than 100
hours at local schools, talking about Science, Technology,
Engineering and Math education and work readiness.

How did you get a job at Chevron?
When I was a student at Cal State Hayward (now Cal State East
Bay), Chevron came out and talked to students. At the time I was
unclear about what I wanted to do, but an opportunity came up
at Chevron and I pursued it. I started working at Chevron in
Concord in the accounting department. I’ve worked in Richmond
for the past five years.
What do you like best about living in Richmond?
As a Richmond native, this city is my home. My favorite part is
truly the weather, which allows you to do so much, like enjoy
locally-grown foods and appreciate the beautiful shoreline. It’s
one of the best places because you don’t have to go far to get a
whole lot.
Favorite restaurant?
Anna’s Place, 11740 San Pablo Ave. It’s a really small, familyfriendly café. It reminds me of a restaurant my mom once owned.
It’s open, airy, relaxed and feels like home.
Common misperception about Chevron?
Not just as an employee but as a resident, the biggest
misconception is that this is not a safe place to work and live.
Chevron’s first priority is safety. It’s second nature here. It’s not
only part of our lives from 9am to 5pm but you take it home. You
share it with your parents. You tell your neighbors. People think
that Chevron only talks about safety when referring to things
that happen at the refinery. But it’s promoted 24/7, whether
you’re out in the plant or sit at a computer all day.

siete días de la semana, ya sea que estés en la planta o sentado
frente a una computadora todo el día.
