Dear Parents/Guardians:
Spring is definitely here, and so is Track season at Richardson. If
you arrive early to school on Tuesday or Thursday mornings, you
will see our team of over 110 athletes participating together in various running, jumping and throwing events. On most days, we train
on the school fields. On rainy days, the students go inside the
school and are involved in circuit training. Later in the season, we
will move our practices to North Delta Secondary School in order to
run on the track that is located next to the high school.
The main goals of our coaches are to not only encourage a love of
the sport of track and field, but also to foster positive self-esteem,
confidence and teamwork. If your child is part of our team, ask him/
her about our “Thumper Rule” and our Track Bucket!
We would also like to let you know that parents are most welcome
to attend any practice to help us motivate and positively encourage
all of our athletes. Our first meet will be the Regional Track Meet at
North Delta Secondary on Tuesday, May 5th. We are looking forward to a fun and exciting Track and Field season!
PAC FAMILY FUN FAIR
As you are aware our Family Fun Fair is coming fast. It will be on
Friday, May 8th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Our parents have been
working very hard to organize many wonderful and fun events for
the evening. There will be games, inflatables, 50/50, food, music
and our cake walk. Our parents are looking forward to great weather and a huge turn out on behalf of our many families. Please book
some time that evening to come and enjoy the many wonderful
things to do.
ARE YOU MOVING?
We will soon begin the process of planning our classes for next
year. You can assist us by calling the school to let us know if your
child will NOT be attending Richardson next year.

can not be held responsible for any missing items.
RICHARDSON BANNER
Check the Richardson website for a new banner - designed by a former student! Daniel Charlton attended French Immersion at Richardson from Kindergarten through Grade 7, and then went to
Burnsview Secondary. Grade 9 French Immersion students at Burnsview work on a year-long project called a "Défi" (challenge), where they challenge themselves to learn something new, or learn
more about something they are interested in. Daniel is passionate about art, and approached the
Richardson principal at the time, Mr. Hicks, about designing a web banner for the school site. He interviewed students and teachers, and surveyed parents and former students, to find out what those
people thought of when thinking of Richardson...the overwhelming result was "lightning", so his design features that powerful image.
Destination Imagination Team
Destination Imagination (DI) is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to inspire and equip students to become the next generation of innovators and leaders. Every year they offer open-ended
challenges and teams of students compete, presenting their solutions in tournaments. The goal is
for students have fun and gain confidence in their ability to solve challenges.
This year we had seven students participate in a grade 2/3 team lead by
Mrs. Dakin, our gifted support teacher. Their challenge was to create a
“Feary Tale” play, about a character with a phobia. They also had to include
an illusion in their play. Our students competed at the Regional DI tournament on February 28th and came in first place for their age category! They
are now off to the provincial Tournament on April 11th. We wish all the best
to Moudood Q.,
Elliot D., Divine P., Elayne W., Kail V., Aidan W. and Cooper S. as they take
their creativity to the next level.
READING LINK CHALLENGE
The first round of the Reading Link Challenge took place here at Richardson
Library on Monday, March 30th. 20 students making up 4 teams, competed in
the Sport of Reading! George Mackie Library provided us with six copies of six
different titles. Although about 30 students signed up in the beginning, 20 participated in the contest. Frances, the librarian from Mackie, asked the questions prepared by library staff. The winning team will go on to the next round,
held at McCloskey Elementary, on April 10. They will compete against teams
from other Delta schools.
Let's cheer on Richardson's Reading Dragons Fraser B, Sophia W., Olivia H., Thora S., Ethan Q.
and Arjun S. GO TEAM!
VAISAKHI
Richardson School will be celebrating Vaisakhi, The Harvest Festival, on Tuesday, April 14 from
9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Thank you to Ms. Khuman, our Multi-cultural Worker, and Mrs. Padda for
organizing this event.

CLASSES FOR NEXT YEAR (2015-2016)
During the month of May, we will begin deciding on the appropriate placement of students for our
next year's Grades K through 7 classes. These will be tentative classes, as over the summer there
will most likely be more students who move into our neighbourhood and others who move away,
necessitating some changes to this organization. For this reason, tentative placements will not be
shared with parents. Please keep in mind that there are many factors that the professional staff
takes into account when creating classes. Some of these are: learning styles and strengths, what
the child can do in relation to the goals of the program, degree of independence in work habits, social and personal needs, age and physical maturity, previous year’s placement, previous teacher’s
input, parental input, establishing a balanced group academically, male/female balance, friendship
groupings, equalizing class size, siblings/twins (separated or combined), and medical needs.
The ultimate goal is to place your child in a classroom in which they will flourish academically and
socially. If you should have important information regarding your child that may help us in choosing
a placement class (i.e. preferred learning style, most effective teaching style) please send this information to Dr. Lauman at the office (on the form provided below) in a sealed envelope, by May 10th.
Please note that a request for a particular teacher is not usually appropriate, and most classes will
be combined classes (i.e. grade 2/3). Information from parents will be shared with staff members
and considered when class placements are being made. Please note that parental information/
requests will only be received from parents of “new to Richardson students” in the fall. In Delta, the
final decision for student placement belongs to the school principal.
