TOPIC
The Rising Challenge from Alzheimer's
Disease and Dementia
The maturing "baby boomer" generation will face
unprecedented stress as both care givers and
victims of dementia. Unless we can find ways to
diminish the threat of Alzheimer's and other forms
of dementia, the growing economic and emotional
burden from these illnesses will place a great toll
on young and old alike. Research is the key to
easing and maybe even eliminating this impending
calamity.
PRESENTER
Dr. Ben A. Bahr
UNC Pembroke faculty member Dr. Ben Bahr, an
internationally recognized expert on age-related,
neuro-degenerative disorders, received the
James E. Holshouser Jr. Award for Excellence in
Public Service from the UNC Board of Governors.
His research has been partially funded by the
C.A.R.T Fund, a trust fund for Alzheimer's
research backed by several Rotary Districts in
Zones 33 and 34.
The Impending Challenge from
Sea Level Rise
Regardless of what we think the cause may be, the
fact is our sea level is rising. Conservative
projections predict as much as two feet by the end
of this century; some projections predict as much
as five feet. Even the conservative projections will
have a huge economic impact on Florida. Planning
is key to mitigating the economic impact and
avoiding disaster.
Panel of Business Executives and Professionals
Northeast Florida Regional Council
Sea Level Rise Policy and Risk Assessment
TOPIC
Social Entrepreneurship
and Impact Investing
Humankind’s impact on the planet is such that we
can choose the sort of world we want to live in,
one with abundance and a healthy environment
for all or a world marred by scarcity and filth.
Whether you are interested in solving problems
on a global scale or a local one, whether you are
interested in helping people or the planet, there
are problems and projects just waiting for you to
tackle them.
All About E-Clubs
E-Clubs have been very beneficial to many
Rotarians around the world. When Rotarians are
challenged in their ability to continue attending
their traditional club for either business or health
related issues, an E-Club might be just the thing to
keep them in Rotary. There are many more
reasons why an E-Club might be just the right
thing for a current or prospective Rotarian. Come
to this session to find out more.
Additional topics
PRESENTER
Devin Thorpe
Author and advisor who focuses on helping those
doing good in the world. A self-proclaimed
"champion of social good." He is a Forbes
magazine contributor covering social
entrepreneurship and impact investing. Devin's
books on personal finance and crowdfunding
draw on his entrepreneurial finance experience
as an investment banker, CFO, treasurer, and
mortgage broker. His books and consulting help
people use financial resources to do good. He
previously worked on the U.S. Senate Banking
committee staff and earned an MBA at Cornell.
PDG Russ Miller
Russ has served District 6970 in a number of
capacities – District Trainer and District
Membership Committee Chair most recently.
Prior to moving from District 6950 to our District,
Russ was a member of an E-Club. Though
currently a member of the Rotary Club of Palatka
Sunrise, Russ has helped launch our District’s
newest club – the Rotary E-Club of Northeast
Florida, which is already 25+ members strong
and growing!
There will be additional topics covered during
our Conference. More information will be
available on the detailed schedule handed out
at registration.

Excursions & Entertainment
Ready to relax and unwind after a stimulating day at our District Conference? Well here you
go!
St. Augustine is home to some of the best restaurants and pubs in NE Florida. Though very few
restaurants will be taking reservations on TPC weekend, we’ve made arrangements for you
and a group of fellow Rotarians and guests to do just that!
Each of the following restaurants will hold four (4) tables for four, but you must contact the
restaurant of your choice to reserve a table on or before April 30th. When you call for your
reservation, let them know you are here for the Rotary District Conference and Assembly.
Bon appétite!
• Gas Full Service Restaurant – 9 Anastasia Boulevard #C
(904) 217-0326
“Southern comfort with a twist” is one description of this unique restaurant set in an old
gas station. Check them out on their Facebook page. Just walk over the Bridge of Lions
from the downtown areas to find this little gem of a restaurant.
• Henley’s Steak and Seafood – 100 St. George Street

and seafood. Upstairs with dining on the balcony, so you can sit and watch the St.
George Street traffic.
• Centro Restaurant & Piano Bar – 17 King Street
