I hope everyone enjoyed the night without my bossiness. Many thanks to VP John for running the meeting. I hope you all have a better understanding of the links and possible benefits to us of Probus after Garry’s talk. We have 25 starters for the Iron Man day and Ray Laws will be in touch with times and shirts for all those lucky people. We still need a few drivers for next week’s roster so please put your helpful thinking caps on and get in touch with me. Remember this week is the ANZAC tribute night so I do not want to be sending rosters around. PDG Barry Hacker seems to have you all organized for Tuesday night and it promises to be a special occasion, with lots of important guests. Don’t be reticent where our politicians are concerned, come forward and say hello and get to know them. Lastly the roster for the Coles raffle & Bowelscan is doing the rounds and I hope you can help with this. It is our last money making effort for this rotary year and a chance to cement our friendship with Coles. A Kiwi from Birth, attended school in NZ and represented New Zealand in Football as a youth. In 1964, came to Australia. Probus in PMCQ is doing quite well. In D9650 we have 64 Probus Clubs over 4000 members. APEX has been a feeder for Rotary for many years. Sadly, many APEX clubs have been folding. Next year Australia will be celebrating 40 years of Probus. Probus started in 1965 in the UK. It was for retiring Rotarians and was only just for Men. Obviously, things have changed. Hunters Hill District started the first Probus Club. In 1982, the Kiwis started the first Ladies Probus Club. The Aussies later started their own Ladies Club. Both of these original “Ladies Clubs” are still for Ladies only. 135+activities have been registered for the Probus Clubs. An active Probus Club is easily identified within the community. It’s attractive to potential members because of the fun activities they promote. A Lake Cathie Probus Club was formed in November last year and now boasts 45 members. In 2009, membership peaked globally with their membership. Sadly, these numbers are dwindling. We need to work closely with Rotary and assist with Volunteering eg. Hat Day, Raffle sales. Probus is a community Service activity of Rotary. Grandparents Day at Probus and also involve Rotary. Ex tradies are members of Probus and would love to assist with overseas ventures and programs to come and assist where ever possible. Costs for Probus Clubs: $30 One off Joining Fee and $50 Annual Fee PMCQ West Rotary Club has started about 7 or 8 clubs here locally. ANZAC Tribute Night
