THAT Council approves the nominations for the Board of Directors for the 2016 BC Summer Games as listed in Report No. PRC 024-2015, dated April 1, 2015, from the Manager, Arena Operations; and 2. THAT the Mayor and Corporate Officer be authorized to execute all documents related to this matter. SUMMARY OF THE ISSUE Council has agreed to host the 2016 B.C. Summer Games. The creation of a strong Board of Directors, with excellent community participation, is the key to successful Games. That task was undertaken by a Nominations Committee to select the President, Vice President and Board of Directors for the Abbotsford 2016 BC Summer Games. The Nominations Committee has completed its search and submitted its recommendations for the Board of Directors. BACKGROUND At the December 15, 2014 Executive Meeting, Council approved PRC Report No. 38-2014 which approved the selection of the Nominations Committee. The Nominations Committee selects the President, Vice President and Board of Directors for the Abbotsford 2016 BC Summer Games. The Nominations Committee consisted of a broad representation of agencies and community representatives and the process has served past Host Communities of the BC Games very well. DISCUSSION The Nominating Committee met initially with the President and CEO of the BC Games Society to review the process for selection of the Board of Directors and to assist the Committee in developing a plan to recruit Directors for the Games. He outlined the skills required and supplied the committee with support materials for each position. The Nominations Committee held a subsequent meeting in which committee members brought forward potential names for each Director position. The Committee reviewed the candidates and developed a shortlist for each position based on their qualifications and suitability for the positions. The Committee used the criteria for each position as outlined by the BC Games Society including the necessary skill set required and the background experience of the individual. Report No. PRC 024 -2015 Page 2 of 3 Each individual on the short list was contacted to ensure that they were interested and willing to carry out the duties of a Director for the Games. All Director positions have now been filled and ready to move the Games planning process forward. SUBSTANTIATION OF RECOMMENDATION In order to host a successful Summer Games, it is imperative to have a strong Board of Directors. The Nominations Committee recommends Directors with a solid combination of skills, experience and connection to the community that will deliver a successful BC Summer Games in 2016.
