SUMMARY OF THE ISSUE
Council has agreed to host the 2016 B.C. Summer Games. The creation of a strong Board of
Directors, with excellent community participation, is the key to successful Games. That task
was undertaken by a Nominations Committee to select the President, Vice President and Board
of Directors for the Abbotsford 2016 BC Summer Games. The Nominations Committee has
completed its search and submitted its recommendations for the Board of Directors.
BACKGROUND
At the December 15, 2014 Executive Meeting, Council approved PRC Report No. 38-2014
which approved the selection of the Nominations Committee. The Nominations Committee
selects the President, Vice President and Board of Directors for the Abbotsford 2016 BC
Summer Games. The Nominations Committee consisted of a broad representation of agencies
and community representatives and the process has served past Host Communities of the BC
Games very well.
DISCUSSION
The Nominating Committee met initially with the President and CEO of the BC Games Society
to review the process for selection of the Board of Directors and to assist the Committee in
developing a plan to recruit Directors for the Games. He outlined the skills required and
supplied the committee with support materials for each position.
The Nominations Committee held a subsequent meeting in which committee members brought
forward potential names for each Director position. The Committee reviewed the candidates and
developed a shortlist for each position based on their qualifications and suitability for the
positions. The Committee used the criteria for each position as outlined by the BC Games
Society including the necessary skill set required and the background experience of the
individual.
