Every year in November, Uganda’s Senior 6 students sit for the
National Leaving Exams (A Level). The results of these tests are the
primary criteria for determining admission to university. In 2014, all
eleven of our S.6 students performed well enough to qualify. This is
the first year we’ve had 100% of our S.6 students achieve at this
level. They will be pursuing a variety of courses, including
Economics, Engineering, Medicine, Journalism, Business
Administration, Social Work, Marketing, and Tourism. They’re
getting a great opportunity and they earned it!
Student of the Month
Emilianos joined our program ten years ago
in Primary 3 (3rd grade). A total orphan and
abandoned by his family, he’s ranked first in
his class in every term of every school year
from Primary 3 through Senior 4. He is now
in Senior 5 (A Level) at Mengo Senior School
studying Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and
Mathematics.
On the national leaving exams for O Level, his overall results were
among the best, and he was the top scoring student in Chemistry
in the region. When he represented his school in an inter-school
science competition, the other head teachers accused the school of
putting one of their science teachers in a school uniform.
