PROJECT PHOENIX EduTrax Instructional Management Solution Phoenix/EIM© RUBRIC AND CONSTRUCTED RESPONSE SCORING QUICK GUIDE & ILLUSTRATED HELP Version 1.5.1.1 The rubric scoring module allows a teacher to enter the scores for any constructed response items that have been assessed. This typically results from an evaluation of the student response and assignment of the appropriate score value based on the rubric scoring guidelines. NOTE—scores can only be posted to “open” test administrations. If already closed, a test must be re-opened to post scores. QUICK GUIDE 1. Login to the Phoenix web site and select Rubric/CR Scoring from the Assessment menu (Green). 2. To score any short answer questions (i.e. right or wrong) select the “Post CR Short Answer Scores” from the task dropdown. Otherwise select “Post Rubric Scores” from the task dropdown. 3. Select the desired subject and course from the subsequent dropdown lists. 4. Finally, select the desired test from the dropdown to view a list of eligible classes. The list will include any classes who have completed the assessment. 5. Open the desired class by clicking on the plus sign beside the roster name. 6. Students within the class are listed. 7. To post scores for a student, click on their name. A panel will open on the right listing each constructed response question included on the assessment, along with the scoring grid corresponding to each. 8. Simply click the radio button within the desired grid corresponding to the point value to be assigned. 9. You can view the actual rubric by clicking on the “Hide/Show rubric definition” toggle icon below each grid. 10. Click the “Save scores” link in the bottom option bar to record the scores for that student. The panel will close and a green checkmark icon will appear beside the student’s name indicating the score(s) have been recorded. 11. Continue working through the list until all student scores are posted. 12. Click the home link in the top option bar to close the posting page and return to the dashboard. 13. When ALL scores are posted for ALL classes taking this assessment, you can use the Student Performance pop up menu to “Close” the test. This will allow analysis to take place. Assessment – Rubric and Constructed Response Scoring Page 2 ILLUSTRATED HELP GUIDE Short-answer and rubric scoring tasks are performed “after” a test is administered when special, nonmultiple choice items need to be scored by the teacher. These are classified as short-answer items, where the teacher indicates right or wrong, and rubric-based where a range of points is provided and selected from based on how the student performed in answering. Short-answer items are scored using the third option listed in the Task dropdown, “Post CR Short Answer Scores. Select this item. NOTE—scores can only be posted based on “open” test administrations that are attached to a specific teacher. 1. After selecting this item, you will once again be asked to select from subject and course dropdown lists. Then a final selection of the test will be available as shown: 2. After selecting the specific test, a drill-down view of those classes that have completed this assessment is shown. Using the plus-sign icon, you can expand the desired class to view the specific students. 3. Students who have taken this assessment are listed. Any who have already had the short-answer questions scored will show a green check mark beside their name to assist in identifying those who have been entered. 4. Click on any student’s name to open the scoring window on the right side of the page. 5. This example shows two short-answer questions that need to be scored. Each question is identified, as well as the correct answer. Student responses, if performed online, are shown in the boxes below the question. If not administered online, student answer sheet would be used to score the item. Simply click the radio button for correct or incorrect for each item. Then click the “Save scores” link in the bottom option bar to record the scores for this student. Assessment – Rubric and Constructed Response Scoring Page 3 6. After scoring each student, the icon in front of their name will switch to a green check mark to indicate the scores are posted. 7. Continue through the list, posting each student’s scores as needed. 8. The last task to discuss is the posting of rubric scores. This is very similar to the previous process of posting short answer scores. The difference is that instead of right or wrong, each item is scored using the point values provided within the rubric and based on the teacher’s evaluation of how the student performed. 9. Select the final option from the Task dropdown list. Again, a subject and course will need to be selected from those dropdowns. 10. Finally, select the test from the active test dropdown, and the same class and student listing will be displayed as before. Expand the list to the desired class to view the individual students. Again, as before, any students already scored will Assessment – Rubric and Constructed Response Scoring Page 4 show a green check mark icon in front of their name. And, as before clicking on a student will open the scoring panel on the right side of the page. As seen on the next page, the rubric scoring panel is a little more complex than the short answer option. Each question is listed as before, but a rubric grid is displayed showing the point values in the heading columns and radio buttons within each cell to allow the selection of the appropriate score based on the teacher evaluation. Simple performance questions will have one row of scoring buttons and extended performance questions multiple rows. Scoring is as simple as clicking on the desired point value. Use the slider bars to move left and right within the rubric if necessary to see all of the point values. 11. What is not shown in this panel is the actual text-based rubric for the question. However, this is available by clicking on the toggle icon available below and to the left of each scoring grid: Clicking this toggle icon will open and close a window with the actual and complete rubric visible, the intent Assessment – Rubric and Constructed Response Scoring Page 5 being that once the teacher is familiar with the rubric it will not need to be visible any longer and can be toggled off. 12. After scoring all of the applicable rubrics click the “Save score(s)” link in the bottom option bar to record the scores in the database. As before, the icon in front of the selected student will change to a green check mark to indicate the scoring has taken place. 13. Continue with the remaining students to score the entire class. Once all of the short-answer and rubric questions are scored for a class, it can be “Closed” using the performance option popup menu on the dashboard. This will allow the scores to be analyzed. 14. This concludes the CR/Rubric module. Assessment – Rubric and Constructed Response Scoring Page 6
