“Ethics in human services.”
This workshop will look at the framework of basic ethical
principles. It will look at how to apply these principles
using a practice based ethics framework.
Participants will be able to use this framework for ethical
issues they may encounter in the work environment.
Four and one-half CEUs.

“Aging, intimacy and sexuality - What
does older adult sexuality look like?”
This workshop will create a safe, supportive, and
inclusive educational space for aging services providers
to learn about senior sexuality, along with identifying
several myths about sexuality and aging. Some of these
myths include: older adults are at a time in life when
sexuality no longer matters, they are not engaging in
sexual activity, and therefore sexual health is not
important, and if older adults have questions or concerns
about sexuality they will ask a healthcare provider.

“Creating inclusive services for
LGBT older adults.”
According to National Resource Center on LGBT Aging
survey: “Nearly nine in 10 respondents said that they
thought long-term care staff would discriminate against
someone who came out in a facility; eight in 10 responded that they would expect mistreatment or bullying from nursing home residents; one in 10 reported
that nursing home staff had disregarded a medical power of attorney when it was assigned to a resident's partner. Transgender elders in particular reported that they
experienced isolation and staff refusal to recognize their
gender identities. Training topics include defining words
relative to providing services to LGBT older adults,
identifying unique challenges faced by LGBT older
adults and their impact on health outcomes.

“SOCIAL CAPITAL: The power and
potency of relationships.”
All of us are interested in a better community where all
people are safe, have an opportunity for accessible and
affordable homes, jobs or meaningful daytime
opportunities and lifestyles of their choice. Yet, the
outcomes in this are still not satisfactory for people who
are vulnerable due to disability or other compromises.
This presentation takes a close look at all the reasons
why our systems have not been more successful in these
goals, defines and delineates the concept of social
capital and offers a community-building perspective
designed to shift the culture to be more inclusive and
supportive to all people.
