Bluff State School Learning Together June 2015 Term 2, Week 8 Be Safe…..Be Responsible…..Be Respectful Dear Parents, Book Fair I would like to sincerely thank Jess Low for all of the hard work that she put into organising and preparing for Book Fair. The amount of books sold is amazing and we will let you know the final number of books sold and amount raised in the next newsletter. Thank you to everyone who participated by purchasing books and stationery. Small Schools Athletics Carnival and Under 8’s Day Congratulations to everyone for their wonderful sportsmanship and representation of Bluff State School at the Small Schools Athletics Carnival and Under 8’s Day. It was great to see the children demonstrating excellent team skills by supporting each other and the other schools. New student We would like to welcome another new student, Emily (Prep) to our school. I’m sure that you will make her and her family feel welcome and introduce yourself. Bush Dance This semester our students have been learning Bush Dancing as part of their dance curriculum. As Ms Cooper teaches at Dingo, Bluff and Blackwater she has organised a bush dance at Blackwater SS for Saturday 13 June and would love for all of the students she teaches to attend. A live band has been hired to play at the Bush Dance and will be coming from Mackay. Tickets are $15 for a family and can be bought from our school office, or on the night. This will be a great way for our students to meet and socialise with other students from other schools and is going to be enormous fun! Playgroup There will be no playgroup this week. Playgroup will start back on Friday 19th June with Mrs Edwards and Mrs Jaques. Year level Prep to Year 2 Years 3 and 4 Years 5 to 6 Number of books Read or experience* 20 books 20 books 15 books *Experiencing a book can include classroom or at-home activities such as shared reading, listening and reading along with a text, or being read to. The requirement for Year 5 through to Year 7 students to read 15 books rather than 20 books acknowledges that older students are likely to select longer, more complex books that may take them longer to read. Students are encouraged to select a range of fiction and non-fiction books suited to their reading ability. Students who complete the challenge will receive a Certificate of Achievement signed by the Premier. P&C Meeting Our June P&C Meeting will be held on Monday 15th June at 2:45pm in D Block.
