Riskmonitor Case Study - Business Wales

Riskmonitor
Riskmonitor, a statutory compliance consultancy based
in Llantrisant, is set to expand its services worldwide
thanks to the redevelopment of its innovative risk
assessment programme.
Riskmonitor has been
developing risk assessment
software, known as RAMIS,
since 2006; the software
includes audits and checklists
for risk assessment, with
specific focus on the assessment
of fire and asbestos. However,
customer research told
Riskmonitor that certain
elements of the system were
not being used by every client,
rather small elements of the
software relevant to each
company.
With support from Welsh
Government’s SMART funding
programme, Riskmonitor was
able to re-develop the
programme into modularised
components, launching the
new version in 2012. This
allowed clients to access the
specific components of the
programme most suitable
to them.
The redevelopment of the
programme has helped
Riskmonitor to gain new clients
across the UK, including Slough
Borough Council, Somerset
County Council and Interserve
among others. Most
significantly, the funding has
allowed Riskmonitor to
develop a version of RAMIS
accessible to smaller
companies, who can now cost
effectively purchase individual
components of the system in
relation to their requirements.
Thanks to a second stream of
Welsh Government support in
2014, Riskmonitor has been
able to mobilise RAMIS’s risk
assessment software, launching
it via a mobile app – a
significant step forward from
the paper risk assessment forms
of the past. This means RAMIS
can be taken directly to the site
undergoing risk assessment,
and its offline capacity means it
can be used without a wireless
connection. It is estimated that
this latest development of the
system will reduce the time
spent in the risk assessment
process by 50%.
The developments in the
software have safeguarded
three jobs, as well as the
recruitment of an additional
three employees. Most recently,
Riskmonitor has been in
discussions with Middle Eastern
government bodies with a view
to exporting the programme
oversees, opening up a new
global market for the company.
Dave Dean, CEO of
Riskmonitor, said: “After
spending nearly a decade
developing the RAMIS
software, it was a daunting
task redeveloping it. However,
with funding from the Welsh
Government we have been
able to not only rebuild RAMIS
to broaden our market
opportunities, but we are now
in talks for business overseas –
a very exciting prospect.”
