CATHOLIC EDUCATION WEEK Catholic Education Week: Exploring Paths of Joy May 3 – 8, 2015 Catholic schools are Catholic communities. Catholic schools are faith communities. We – parents, students, teachers, administrative and support staff – walk and grow together in the faith which we received at our Baptism. And it is the ‘together’ that we grow. Our growth is primarily a relationship with God, who at our Baptism, called us by name. But the response of each of us to that growth is both personal and communal. We grow in our faith in the nurturing atmosphere of our Catholic community be that of our local parish, our home, or our Catholic school community. Our school community will celebrate Catholic Education Week 2015 in ways that are appropriate to our students’ age. We invite you to participate in one or other of these activities as your personal time and work schedule may permit. There are five sub-themes for each day of Catholic Education Week: Monday – Walking Together and Sharing Our Stories Tuesday – Opening the Scriptures Wednesday – Welcoming Others to the Table Thursday – Recognizing Jesus in the Breaking of the Bread Friday – Proclaiming the Good News Walk With Jesus: Each year, students from every school across the HCDSB participate in the Walk with Jesus. This walk is a collective demonstration of solidarity and faith. Our school will have 20 students in grades 7 and 8 participating this year. It is a whole-day event and ends with a Eucharistic celebration, led by His Excellency, Bishop Crosby. To show our solidarity as a school, we will participate in our own Walk with Jesus on Thursday, May 7th (same day as the Board event-weather permitting) at 9:00 a.m. Please join us as we walk together to celebrate Catholic Education week and explore our paths of joy! Parents and staff can follow the Board’s walk on Twitter with a live feed throughout the day. We will try our best to send Tweets throughout the day. To join in, please follow the hashtag: #HCWWJ or the Board’s Twitter account: @HCDSB. PARENT ENGAGEMENT AND INFORMATION Council will meet next on Monday, May 4th at 7:00pm in the library. All of the coaches are very proud of the sportsmanship and spirit shown by both teams and had a lot of fun coaching the students. A big thank you to Caroline D. and Emma T. for their assistance as student coaches. Thank you to our coaches Miss Clark, Miss Macaluso, Mrs. Abdulahad and Mr. Curvan. WE ARE A MINIMIZED ALLERGEN ENVIRONMENT No nut products are to be sent to school. Students must brush their teeth and wash their face and hands when any nut products are ingested before attending St. Bernadette School. PEANUT BUTTER SANDWICHES It is impossible to differentiate between peanut butter substitute products and peanut butter; in fact, these products are almost identical in color, consistency, smell and taste to peanut butter. Therefore, the HCDSB and our school is requesting that parents do not send their children to school with look-a-like products to peanut butter such as “WOWBUTTER”, “PEABUTTER” and “SUNBUTTER” in sandwiches until the products are available in a color other than tan, the color of peanut butter. Thank you for your support in ensuring our students continue to feel safe here at school.
