This 8th grade contract was designed to provide 8th grade students and their parents with important information about our end of the year expectations regarding academic performance, behavioral expectations, and to inform every one of the planned activities for our 8th grade students. This year, all eligible 8th grade students will have the opportunity to attend: 1. The 8th Grade Dance (Tickets will be $10 and sold in Social Studies classes) 2. Renaissance Fair/Bruster’s Ice Cream truck’s visit ($3 for ice cream) 3. Kings Dominion Trip (extra fee required) 4. 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony 1.) This year’s 8th Grade Dance will be on Friday, May 8, 2015 from 7-9:30 pm. Snacks will be provided at the dance. Mrs. Hart, the 8th grade teachers, and a group of parent volunteers always help to make the event beautifully decorated. The Theme of the dance will be Hollywood Movie Night. Students must be present at school for a full day on Friday, May 8th, in order to attend the dance. This is an evening reserved for Margaret Brent Middle School 8th graders ONLY. No guests from other schools or grade levels may attend. This is a semi-formal dance; typically girls wear nice dresses, and boys wear shirts with collars and ties. No shorts or jeans are permitted. Young ladies wearing strapless dresses, halter tops and/or spaghetti straps must have a jacket or sweater to cover the shoulders. Please follow the school dress code policy. Parents willing to help with set up, decorating, food preparation and clean-up should contact the dance coordinator, Tammy Hart, at [email protected]. 2.) The 8th grade will be celebrating the Renaissance Fair here at school on Tuesday May 26, 2015. We have the Fight Club (from the MD Renaissance Fair) coming to demonstrate Renaissance fighting. They also interact with the kids, breathe fire and lay on a bed of nails! This is a great day of fun for the students. There is no fee for participation in this this event, the Pizza Hotline funds will cover the costs of our guests. Students will be completing projects in their Language Arts classes as well as sharing their cool projects with others. We will also be having the Bruster’s Ice cream truck here for students to purchase ice cream. Students may purchase a small ice cream for $3. Yes, students may purchase more than one AFTER everyone has been served. 3.) The King’s Dominion Trip will take place on Thursday, June 11th, 2015.
