invites students 8 and older to explore the world of Commedia dell’Arte theatrical performance.

Capitano Virtuoso has sent his servant, Richelina, to retrieve an order he’s
been eagerly awaiting—but before this package can find its way home,
it will go on a journey all over town, slipping through the hands of a
wily servant, a starstruck lover, and two greedy old men. Join Faction
of Fools, DC’s award-winning Commedia dell’arte Theatre Company,
for this jam-packed two-person 50 minute adventure!

• Hats Off! Young Maidens and Masters, adorn yourselves! Make a Flower Crown or Henry Hat with
Cheryl and Gabby Mankins. (8 & up)
• Capture the Sun! as you create a Faux Stained Glass Sun Catcher with the Queens of Craft Kim Sheffler
and Traci Walizer. (all ages)
DAY-LONG ACTIVITIES /PRESENTERS:
• CLIMB Rapunzel’s Tower! (Okay, it’s a rock wall!) with help from Tuscarora District Mason-Dixon Council
of Boy Scouts of America!
• PADDLE in the creek! with Mr. Mike and Valerie, who will share their kayaks and paddling skills!
(Bring water shoes, dry clothes for later and a towel.)
• BECOME a Puppet Master! Make a Shakespearean Puppet and let your imagination bring it to life!
Jill, Emily & Betsy Morningstar will lead the way.
• SPY critters! To be, or not to be… A FROG! Join Sheila and Brian Eyler for an “up close” peek at tadpoles,
frogs and other critters. You’ll learn interesting facts about creatures you can spy in the nearby glade and glen.
• PLAY games of the Renaissance with Dottie and Laura Fawks…Ball and Cup, Hide Fox and All After,
Hoodman Blind, Bo Peep, Cherry Pit, Fox and Geese
• CREATE a Family Crest. Learn about the parts of a family crest, make your very own, then display it for all
to see on the clothesline exhibit.
• SEARCH for a Sentiment! Expand your knowledge of Shakespearian language as you trek through the park
in search of clues. (all ages)
• ENTER the Bard’s Castle! “Agricultural architect” Gerald Reichard and friends will create a “growing” castle.
Play inside ours at Youth Fest, then ask Gerald about building your own!
• MASK your secret identity when you create a “Mask on a Stick” with Anita Pfeuffer.

Faction of Fools Master Class…
This workshop invites students 8 and older to explore the world
of Commedia dell’Arte theatrical performance. Learn about classic
Commedia characters, about their masks and why they wear them,
and about the traditional appeal of this Renaissance-era drama
form that is still alive and well today.
Please wear clothes and shoes in which you can move freely,
and come prepared to have FUN!! Free, but pre-registration is
required.
