How to use fra Angelico
1
Turning it ON:
To turn the synthesirer on you need to connect it to the power source. It can be a 9V battery of DC adaptor 9-12V with polarity + in the
centre! When connecting the battery, the red wire must be the upper one to make the good polarity! ATTENTION: When you turn on the
device and NO LED will come ON – TURN IT OFF immediately! Please check the polarity and also check if there are no metal parts
touching the soldered side of the board!
2
Interface:
4 big buttons-these are used to play various sounds- different button press combination produces different sound
3 small switch buttons – LEARN, ADSR, LFO – they change mode of editing sound – different combinations make different modes
5 knobs – in different modes they change described parameters
1 volume trimr – changes output volume (the blue one)
3
Basic mode:
All the switches are turned off – this mode is used to perform on the instrument. By pressing different button combinations you play
different sounds. By playing sound and turning knobs you will change basic parameters of the synthesis- these changes are not stored
into memory and after releasing the buttons the sound goes back to original.
4
Learn mode:
Turn LEARN switch on. Now you can edit sounds with different button combinations. Press the big buttons to get the combination you
want to edit- the LEDs will show you the combination. Now you hear the basic sound colour without LFO and ADSR. Turn the KNOBS to
adjust the parameters of the synthesis (PITCH, GF1,GD1,GF2,GD2) . The pitch is in chromatic scale. GF stands for grain frequency and
GD stands for grain decay. These parameters adjust the colour of the sound and they sound a little like resonant low-pass filters.
5
Learn LFO:
After you learned the basic colour lets add some modulation to it. Do not turn LEARN switch off and turn on the LFO switch. Now you
hear the sound with LFO. Turn the KNOBS to adjust the different parameters of LFO. They are described in the second position by the
KNOBS. They are: RATE – the speed of LFO, SMOOTH – number of steps the LFO has, AMT – how much it is applied to the sound,
DEST – which parameter of the sound it will affect and SHAPE which determines the progress of the LFO. To turn LFO of for the sound
make AMT parameter to 0.
6
Learn ADSR:
ADSR is envelope of the sound, it determines the progress of the volume of the sound in time. When you are still in LEARN mode turn on
the ADSR switch to edit. Now you do not hear any sound. That is because you need to trigger it to hear it in TIME. To trigger the sound
press the LFO switch. After releasing it you will hear the release of it. The parameters of ATCK- atack, DEC – decay, SUS- sustain and REL
– release are described by the KNOBS.
Continue editing:
When you switch off the LEARN mode the sound will be saved into the memory and you should hear it when you press the desired
button combination. To edit more combinations go through the procedure again. You can now edit 15 different combinations how to
press these 4 buttons.

Changing presets:
When you make your first 15 sounds lets make another 15! You can make 4 presets like this. To change preset make sure all switches are
turned off. Turn on LFO and ADSR switches now ON – they are labelled PRESET together and now press one of the 4 big buttons to
load and edit one of the 4 presets! All the sounds are stored in the memory after you switch off the device!

When the LEARN mode is off and you are performing on the instrument, turning the KNOBS changes the basic parameters of the
synthesis. By turning on the LFO switch all LFO of all sounds will now be set according to the position of the KNOBS. This change will not
be saved in the memory. The same goes for ADSR switch. By using this function you can immediately turn your preset into drum preset or
ambient pad preset.
10
There are 4 more presets for you from our factory- they use different memory. To load them turn on the LFO and ADSR switch and make
long button press (about 3s) on one of the 4 big buttons and the preset will be loaded! Please remember that all the editing you make to
these presets will not be saved after you turn the device off or switch the preset

MIDI:
The fraAngelico synthesizer has MIDI input! To use it, connect it to your keyboard or sequencer by MIDI cable and start playing! In the
lowest MIDI octave (notes 0-15) there you can play the 15 sounds you have learned with different combinations of the big buttons.
The last sound you play will be spreaded with its PITCH to the rest of the keyboard, so you can play any melody with it. You can also
change the sound of it by turning the KNOBS off by pressing different button combination.
Changing MIDI input channel:
When you turn on the fraAngelico one of the LEDs on the synth will blink 3 times. If LEARN Led will blink it means that no MIDI input
channel has been assigned and the synth works on all channels. You can choose from input channels 1,2, 3 and 4. To change the
channel turn off the synth hold down one of the 4 BIG BUTTONS, turn the synth on and keep holding it. Depending on the button that
was held down, the input channel will be set. (the numbers go from left to right).
