Chapter goals are to provide community service in collaboration with the local network of
services for the aging; promote fellowship; provide education and socialization for members;
and plan new directions for people age 50 and over, serving their needs and interests.
Programs include chapter meetings, newsletter, legislative updates, educational speakers,
participation in state sponsored events and special local events. Luncheon meetings are held
at 11:30 am on the 2nd Thursday of the month at the Holiday Inn at Exit 4 in Nashua.
Membership fee is $5 for regular members and $10 for associate members (under age 50).

The Actorsingers is a nonprofit community theater organization dedicated to performing highquality musicals. The Actorsingers produce two adult major musicals per season, as well as a
children's musical (Junior Actorsingers) each spring and a teen musical each summer (Teen
Actorsingers). All auditions and rehearsals are held at Actorsingers Hall, 219 Lake Street,
Nashua, NH. The Broadway shows are staged at the Edmund Keefe Auditorium, Elm Street,
Nashua. Board meetings are held monthly. An annual meeting is held in June. The semiannual meeting is held in January. Membership dues are $10.00 for an individual and $15 for a

The AAUW is a national and international organization that promotes equity for women through
advocacy, research and education. In addition to branch-wide activities, which include social
events and fundraisers to support our scholarship, we offer smaller interest groups that include
a book discussion group, a gourmet dinner group, and a daytimers group that ventures to local
attractions. Monthly meetings are held at various locations within the local area from
September through June of each year. Membership is open to women of all ages from
southern New Hampshire that hold a degree or associate degree from an accredited college
or university. Annual dues are $60.

The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its
Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement,
will provide relief to victims of disaster and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to
emergencies. There are no membership restrictions. Most Health and Safety Courses have fees. All
emergency services are free. Available programs include:
• Disaster—food, clothing, lodging, eye glasses, prescription medications, and mental health
services to victims of disaster.
• Liaison for emergency communications to/from military personnel in times of crisis.
• Health & Safety—adult, infant and/or child CPR; first aid; automated external defibrillator (AED);
babysitter training; water safety courses; school safety programs offering free Basic Aid Training
(BAT.) and First Aid for Children Training (FACT); Preventing Disease Transmission-Bloodborne
Pathogens; and Pet First Aid.

The league is a community resource dedicated to saving the lives of homeless pets; caring
for companion animals afflicted by neglect, abandonment and cruelty; enhancing the
relationship between people and pets through adoption education, compassion, and
promotion of animal welfare. Shelter adoption hours: Tues. and Thurs., 1-7 pm; Fri., Sat.,
and Sun., 12-5 pm.

Bedford Boomers is an informational association of hobbyists with the goals of promoting
model railroading and assisting people of all ages to enjoy the hobby. The group participates in
local, regional, and national events and interacts with the public at all functions. A public model
-railroading exhibition is held the first Sunday in November. Meetings are held on the fourth
Tuesday of the month at 7:15 pm at the Bedford Public Library. There are no dues.

The CareGivers, Inc. is a small, private, grassroots nonprofit with the mission to help the frail,
elderly, and disabled maintain their independence and dignity through the spirit of
volunteerism. The CareGivers recruits, screens, trains, and coordinates volunteers to offer
presence and assistance to those in need through transportation, a mobile food pantry, companionship, community workshops, and service projects. Programs and services are free of
charge and help vulnerable individuals remain independent in their homes and connected to
their communities.

The Merrimack Agricultural Commission’s purpose is to protect agricultural lands, preserve
rural character, provide a voice for farmers, and encourage agricultural-based businesses. The
7-member commission meets at 7 pm on the 2nd Wednesday of each month in the Town Hall

The Commission sponsors the Merrimack Farmers Market, which will be held every
Wednesday from 3:30 to 6:30 pm from June 1 to September 28, 2011, in the parking lot of
Tractor Supply Co. at Merrimack Commons on Daniel Webster Hwy. The market features
locally-grown, in-season vegetables, fruits, flowers and plants, dairy, maple products, bakery,

Naticook Rd. The garden will open May 15, 2011 and close October 15, 2011, weather

The Merrimack Conservation Commission (MCC) is a volunteer commission charged with the
protection, management and education of the public concerning the natural forest, wildlife and

The purpose of this club is to raise money to support community activities for the town of
Merrimack. We raise money for a scholarship fund awarded to a high school senior, Operation
Santa in conjunction with the Welfare Office, and donations to the town’s food pantries. In
addition, we have sent a child to summer camp for a week, collected needed mittens, socks,
sweatpants, etc. for the elementary schools. Also, we try to participate in the town’s events
such as the Annual Halloween Walk and the Winter Carnival at Wasserman Park. Meetings
are the 1st Monday of each month at various members’ homes. Annual dues are $20.

The Lions Club is a community service organization which helps vision and hearing impaired
people so that all, including Merrimack residents, get the vision and hearing care they need. The
Lions also support other needs in the community and provide Braille and large print menus to
Merrimack restaurants. They conduct vision screenings of all 7th grade students, hearing
screenings of one grade level in the three grammar schools every year, and eye exams and
glasses for the needy and for school children. They keep a two mile section of Daniel Webster
Highway free of litter. They have video magnification systems that they have loaned out to help
three visually impaired residents. They sponsor a Leo Club (high school aged) that is active in
fundraising and community service. They support Project Safeguard, St. James Food Pantry, St.
John Neumann Food Pantry, Home Health and Hospice and other worthy causes within the
community. They collect and recycle used eye glasses. Meetings are held at 7pm on the 1st
Tuesday of each month at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Nashua and the 3rd Tuesday of each
month at Florence’s Restaurant.

The Chamber Orchestra fills the niche between full symphony and chamber ensemble by
focusing on lighter works written for the small orchestra. All musicians are amateurs in the true

Since 1959, the NRPC has provided its 13 member communities, including Merrimack, with
comprehensive solutions to local land use, transportation, and regional planning issues, as
well as cutting-edge mapping and data services. NRPC's specializes in planning that is innovative, inclusive, technically sound and driven by public participation. NRPC has a long history of
assisting the Town of Merrimack with local planning issues. NRPC worked with the committee
to develop the Horse Hill Nature Preserve Definitive Plan. NRPC also collaborated with the
town to develop Watershed Management Plans for the Souhegan River, Lower Merrimack
River, and Pennichuck Brook. NRPC maintains a custom traffic model for the Town and performed a roadway infrastructure phasing forecast which was included in the Roadway Infrastructure Master Planning Study. In addition, NRPC is in the process of providing assistance to
Merrimack Village District to digitally map all valves and water mains in the town of Merrimack.
Through NRPC's iTRaC program, NRPC worked with Merrimack to develop the Merrimack
Town Center Pedestrian and Trail Master Plan, which outlined specific actions the town could
implement to achieve a unified and well-developed town center.
NRPC also teamed with Merrimack Community Development to examine the north end of Merrimack upon the completion of the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport access road. Lastly,
NRPC assisted the town in planning for roadway improvements and has updated GIS data and
standard maps, depicting roads and town facilities, environmental and conservation areas, existing land uses, and aerial imagery.
Meetings of the Commission are held quarterly on the 3rd Wednesday of December, March,
June and September at 7 pm at the NRPC office. Merrimack has four representatives to the
commission, appointed by the Town Council. Each member community is assessed annual
dues.

The NH Coverts Project trains volunteers to promote wildlife habitat conservation and forest
stewardship. The goals of the project are twofold: to enhance, restore, and conserve habitat for
the rich diversity of native wildlife in New Hampshire and to increase the amount of New
Hampshire's public and private land managed with a stewardship ethic. A "covert"
(pronounced "cover" with a "t") is a thicket that provides shelter for wild animals. Modeled on
similar Coverts Projects in other states, the name of the NH program symbolizes the Project's
focus on wildlife habitat.

RISE offers college level classes for those age 55 and older living in the Greater Nashua area.
Courses are without credit, but are member-directed and encourage active participation and
fellowship. Fall, winter and spring terms are offered. Classes meet on the campus of Rivier
College. for one and a half hours, Monday–Friday for 5 or 10 weeks in fall and spring and 3
weeks in winter. The current fee schedule can be viewed on the web site.

Merrimack Rotary is an organization of business and professional persons united
worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all
vocations and help build goodwill and peace in the world. Its five avenues of service are
community service, vocational service, club service and international service, and new
generations. Being a community service organization, it provides all levels of service to
individuals, service groups and to Merrimack. Some services/projects are Kids’ Cove, the
DARE program, scholarships, and many other charitable needs. It conducts fundraisers to
support/pay for these community needs, including the annual Christmas tree sale, rabies clinic,
Merrimack High School 4Way Speech Contest, Kids Kove revitalization, and a variety of
fellowship activities. Meetings are held weekly at the John O’Leary Adult Community Center on
Thursdays at 7:15 am. Membership is open to all community-minded professional/business
people who want to give back to their community.

federal income guidelines. Free food is distributed every Tuesday from 9:30 am until noon. Donations to the food pantry are accepted on Tuesday through Friday from 8 am to 2 pm. Other

SJCS is dedicated to promoting better physical, mental and social well-being of older and other
qualified adults by providing nutritious meals, health education, opportunities for social
interactions and other related services. Activities include Meals on Wheels and Community
Dining. Meals are served at noon Monday through Friday at the John O'Leary Adult
Community Center. Meals on Wheels are delivered four times a week by trained drivers. A $2

The VFW is a fraternal, patriotic, historical and educational organization that preserves and

V.O.W.S. supports and mentors the spouses of military personnel who have returned home
from combat duty and are having a difficult time “transitioning” back to home life due to PTSD

The Wheeler Memorial Chapel is a 124 year old traditional New England style chapel that is a
center for community meetings, activities, and public services by nonprofit groups. It is nondenominational and non-sectarian, being owned and operated under the supervision of an
independent Board of Trustees. Their purpose is to preserve the historic character and value
of the chapel and promote is as a gathering place for activities, performances, and services
that enrich the community.
Management of the facility includes rental arrangements, repairs and enhancements to the
chapel. The trustees are active in fundraising and educating the public on of the building's
past, present and future. The trustees meet privately on a monthly basis. Their meetings are
open to guests by prearrangement. Trustees must be Merrimack residents.

The Youth Council’s mission is to build strong families—free from abuse, addiction, and court
involvement—by providing counseling, outreach, and prevention throughout Greater Nashua. It
offers outpatient counseling for youth and families dealing with grief/loss, self-esteem, peer
pressure, decision-making, depression, alcohol and other drug problems, It also offers
parenting support for all parents and caregivers. The office is open Monday-Friday from 8:30
am to 4:30 pm and evenings by appointment. NH Medicaid, Harvard Pilgrim, Cigna, and
Anthem insurance plans are accepted. Please call to see if other providers are accepted. All
other counseling services are based on a sliding fee scale.
