FAQs ON DIRECT SCHOOL ADMISSION - SECONDARY SCHOOLS EXERCISE Qn : What is DSA? Ans: DSA is the Direct School Admission Exercise. It allows all Primary 6 students who have exceptional talent (eg, music and sports) to apply to secondary schools offering the DSA before their PSLE exam. It allows them to gain entry into a secondary school based on their talents. The candidate must qualify for the EXPRESS stream. Qn: What does TKGS Offer? Ans: The main DSA categories are: -Performing Arts: Symphonic Band, Choir, String Ensemble, Drama, and Dance. -Sports: Badminton, Basketball, Tennis, Tenpin Bowling, Sailing, Softball and Netball. -Societies: Literary and Debating Society. -Music Elective Programme: Music Elective Programme (MEP). Qn: How can I apply? Ans: Application forms are available on the school website at http://www.tkgs.moe.edu.sg/ or at the School General Office. Please ensure that 1 application form, character reference form together with the relevant supporting documents are submitted. Qn: How are students selected? Ans: Selection is based on merit and in the following areas: 1. Academic performance 2. Talents in the selected areas 3. Performance during auditions/trials and interviews Qn: When is the closing date? Ans: Closing date for all applications is 30 June 2014. No late applications will be accepted. Qn: When will I know the results? Ans: ONLY short-listed applicants will be notified by 12 July 2014. Short-listed applicants will be called for an audition/trial and interview. We will be informed you of what you need to bring for the trials/auditions and interviews. The outcome of the DSA application will be made known by 29 August 2014. Qn: What should I do if I am currently not studying in an MOE school? Ans: Students currently not studying in MOE schools will require a letter issued by MOE HQ before they are issued with a DSA Application Form. The letter will contain a Registration Number, unique to the student which will help identify the candidate in the system. Please note that Singaporeans (citizens and permanent residents) who are currently not studying in MOE schools (e.g. studying overseas) are also required to have such a letter. Parents are to go to the MOE Customer Service Centre, located at 1 North Buona Vista Drive, Podium Block MOE Building S138675 to obtain the letter and Registration No. Qn: If I am an International Student seeking admission into a mainstream MOE school can I apply for DSA? Ans: International students, without Dependent’s Pass (DP), Immigration Exemption Order (IEO) and whose parents are not Singapore Citizen (SC) / Permanent Resident (PR), seeking admission into a mainstream MOE school will be required to take the MOE-centrally administered Admissions Exercise for International Students (AEIS) (AEIS is usually conducted around Sep-Oct annually for new international students who wish to join our mainstream public primary and secondary schools in January of the following year.) Parents are advised to refer to MOE-AEIS website for more information on AEIS.
