regard. If you move or change your telephone number, please
contact the parish office (267-6644). Not only will this help
avoid confusion, but it will also save the cost of paying
additional charges for returned mail. Thank you, Karen

loved you, so you also should love on another.” —John

Jesus showed His love by healing the sick, giving hope to the
hopeless and ultimately dying on the cross for us. We, too, are
called to show our love of Jesus. When you give to the ABA
you give love to someone in need.

First Communions during this Mass
Dear Friends,
This weekend is ABA commitment
weekend. A very special thank you to all who
have contributed so generously to the Annual
Bishop’s Appeal already and those who have contributed in
the past. Saint Patrick Church is able to afford all of the
programs and services that we do because we are an integral
part of the Diocese of Norwich. Sometimes in parish life
people begin to think in terms of an “us” versus “them”
mentality. It is important to realize Jesus’ parable about the
Vine and the branches. We are an extension of Bishop Cote in
this part of the diocese. We are extended branches that are
connected in love with our Bishop, who in turn is connected
with the church universal in Rome-the Vatican. In that light we
need to realize that we are not independent. We are
interdependent-interdependent
on
the
diocese,
and
interdependent as Christians living in community with one
another. As the famous poet once said, “No man is an island.”
I strongly encourage and invite all parishioners to
prayerfully consider how they can make a donation. The size
of the gift is not important. Percentage of participation can
make all of the difference in the world. This year, in particular,
there is a great need for assistance with our ABA sponsored
ministries in Haiti. As you know, the country of Haiti was
devastated by an earthquake earlier this year. From the rubble
signs of hope are emerging. The Diocese had representatives
on the ground from Haitian Ministries both during and after
the earthquake. The job of rebuilding the country has just
begun. Your simple donation can offer so much assistance to
those in Haiti who are, and will be in need for years to come.
Your donation also supports the vocation office. In this year,
the year of the Priests, we need to realize the need to nurture
and support priestly vocations. Fr. Greg Galvin is working and
praying tirelessly to respond to men who may hear God’s call
in their life. Our own Judith Hughes who works with Fr. Ray
Introvigne, has blessed so many in our parish with the Life in
the Spirit seminars and prayer groups. These ministries depend
upon ABA donations.
On a personal level you should know that I have pledged
$1,000.00 to the appeal. It has been my experience that God
will not be outdone in generosity. I also contribute $45.00 on a
weekly basis. I will not ask people to do something that I am
not already doing myself. It involves sacrifice but it is so much
more than just donating money, it is a philosophy of life. Do
we approach life with clenched fists saying “everything I have
is mine” or do we open our hands and hearts and see
everything we have received as a gift from God? My prayer is
that all of us will contribute our time, treasure, and talent to
build up the Body of Christ here in East Hampton and around
the world. We are branches connected to the Vine. May your
hearts be filled with God’s peace.

2010 Annual Bishop’s Appeal
“The Lord is my light…” (Psalm 27:1)
We are to be Christ’s beacons in the world. Each Year, the
Diocese uses the Annual Bishop’s Appeal to help the parishes
and the Diocese itself become centers of light for the world.
The various works and ministries supported by the Appeal are
works of justice and charity, reflecting God’s own desire to
make us his cooperators, people who reflect God’s light.
Thank you and all the people of God in the Diocese of
Norwich for sharing in this endeavor. I know that I can count
on our Parish family to help us achieve the success we all
desire for our Diocesan Family. This year, our Parish Goal is
$57,700.
Attention Prayer Partners
Next weekend our children will begin receiving First Holy
Communion. If you wish to send your partner a card, please
place it in the prayer partner basket in front of the tabernacle or
bring it to the Faith Formation Office. Thank you for your
prayers and support.
CUP AND SIGN OF PEACE
Bishop Cote has indicated that he will restore the Cup and the
Sign of Peace for the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of
Christ beginning June 5, 2010 if another flu outbreak does not
occur. Precautions that were initiated last fall should continue.

Fifth Sunday of Easter
Introduction-Liturgy of the Word:
On this fifth Sunday in the joyful season of Easter, we are
drawn here by the Holy Spirit to worship and celebrate God’s
abiding love. After weeks of growing in our appreciation for
the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we find ourselves
called by him to lay down our lives in love as he did. Let us
pray fervently today that we may truly have such love for one
another.
