STEWARDSHIP REFLECTIONS
“As the Lord spoke to me, the spirit entered me and set me
on my feet, and I heard the one who was speaking say to
me, ‘Son of man, I am sending you….’” (Ezekiel 2:2-3)
God sends each of us to do some special work for Him.
And, He gives us all the talents that we need to do that
work. However, do we listen to God when He calls? Do
we get up on our feet and give our time to do the work God
asks of us? This is the basis for good stewardship.

PRAYER IN ACTION
Do one thing this week that will make our
parish a better place!
“The Lord spoke to me”. Anyone ever
say that to you? Were you a little
skeptical? Did you roll your eyes? I
must admit there are many times in
my walk as a priest that I hear nothing
but silence. No apparitions of Our Lady. No booming
voices from heaven. Just the peace in my heart that lets me
know I am doing the right thing.
From the readings this weekend it is clear that a
conversation with God is the norm for Ezekiel, Paul, and
well, the one we expect, Jesus. Apparently Jesus was too
much for the people of Nazareth, and “they took offense at
them.”…. “So he was not able to perform any mighty deed
there, apart from curing a few sick people by laying his
hands on them.”
Revelation should be the norm in a religious community.
The Spirit of God is constantly alive and moving. The
question is: are we listening? Are we, as the baptized of St.
Patrick, in communication with God, or are we simply
going through the motions?
A wonderful way to develop this face to face
communication is Eucharistic Adoration. We have
adoration every Friday from 8:30 to 5pm. On First Friday
we go to 7pm with Benediction. Come and talk to Jesus.
Tell Him your hopes, your fears, your sorrows, your joys.
You cannot bore Him. He wants this intimacy. Bishop
Fulton Sheen used to recommend the spiritual exercise of
the daily Holy Hour. He was able to keep that discipline
even when travelling. Just this past week he was named
Venerable by the church. Can’t make it to the church at the
appointed times? Find a quiet place in the home where you
can pray in silence. You may find it to be the most peaceful
part of the day. Get up a little earlier, read some scripture,
journal, pray the rosary, and you will begin to find that
certain phrases keep coming up again and again. “I am with
you to deliver you”… “I will not forsake you”…..or, as
happened to me recently a passage from Jeremiah. Jeremiah
6:16: “Thus says the Lord: Stand beside the earliest roads,
ask the pathways of old which is the way to good, and walk
in it; thus you will find rest for your souls.” Everywhere I
went I kept hearing the phrase “ancient paths, (ancient
roads)” Through much prayer I discovered that the Lord
was inviting me to look into my Heart so He could perform
surgery. Events of the past/memories that were long
forgotten have been coming forth. Some good. Some not so
good. But in the process there is restoration and healing.
The Lord wants to do the same thing with you.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if someone asked “what is the
Lord doing in your life right now?” and we gave an
enthusiastic response. I think it is a realistic goal for a
people who pray. Ezekiel and Paul had this wonderful
intimate relationship with God. The good news for us is that
the God of the universe, Jesus Christ, wants that same
relationship with us as well.

FAITH FORMATION

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
There will be Eucharistic Adoration (with exposition) on
Fridays in the Knights of Columbus Hall. It will begin
immediately following the 8:00 morning Mass until 7:00pm
with Benediction on the FIRST Friday of the month and
only until 5:00pm all other Fridays. If you would like to
commit to a block of time, please see the sign-up sheets
located on the table outside the sacristy.

If you have taken advantage of our On-line Giving program
and wish to discontinue receiving envelopes in the mail,
please call the office so they can be cancelled. Upcoming
“Special Collections” will be listed in the bulletin each

Announcing Fall of 2012-13
Catholic Scripture Study Program
St Patrick will be offering the new fall study on Joshua,
Judges and Ruth. The 28 week study will cost $50 as in
previous years. The set of 3 studies are in one 3-ring binder
and include the answers to the study questions. Each of the
books is also offered individually at the following prices.
Judges (12 wks) $21.95 Joshua (12 wks) $21.95 and Ruth
(4 wks) $ 9.95.

VISIT THE
“TEENS FOR RELAY FOR LIFE”
BOOTH DURING OLD HOME DAYS
East Hampton teens will have a Relay for Life booth on
July 14th during Old Home Days, shared between St. Patrick and the High School, to recruit for Relay for Life and
to sell Luminaria candles in honor of loved ones with
cancer. Teens are needed to sign up for an hour or two
between 1 pm (after the parade ends) and 8 pm. Funds
raised during Old Home Days will be split between the
St. Patrick and the High School teams.
Relay for Life is the signature event of the American
Cancer Society and will be held at East Haddam Elementary School on September 15 and 16th. It’s a way to celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones and raise
funds to fight against this terrible disease that takes too
many from too many families. For more information,

Additional Relay for Life information will be available,
including how to form or join a team, as will resource
members from St. Patrick’s Team. So talk to your friends
and relatives now, get them involved, and ask them to
help support Relay. With your help, we will work towards the day when cancer will be eliminated.

Introduction-Liturgy of the Word:
Week by week, on the Lord’s Day we ponder God’s love
right here, in this holy place. In today’s scriptures, God
warns the prophet Ezekiel that the people to whom God
is sending him are stubborn of heart. In Jesus’
hometown synagogue, the people’s lack of faith renders
Jesus almost powerless. Today then, God challenges us
to come to this Eucharist, to this holy place, as people of
faith if we want to see Jesus’ power at work here in the
midst of our community and in our daily lives.

What’s that Rash?
Rashes can be dry and scaly, red and itchy, wet and
warm, crusty and blistered, or flat and painless. Rashes
result from many conditions, both infectious and noninfectious. Only your doctor can determine if the underlying medical cause needs to be treated.
A rash could be caused by noninfectious agents such
as food allergies, medication, insect bites, metals
(especially nickel), chemicals, skin irritants, or sunburn.
Infectious agents such as certain bacteria, viruses,
fungi and skin parasites can also cause a rash.
Contact dermatitis occurs when you disrupt the normal skin barrier and can cause redness, itching or dryness. Eczema causes dry, itchy, scaly red skin. Hives
are bright red, raised, itchy welt like. Contact your doctor if your rash is accompanied by fever, headache,
joint pain, joint swelling or redness.
