riches. Yet Thomas Merton once wrote, “There is no
poverty so great as that of the prosperous.” Too many
possessions can leave us empty—always questing for more
things that do not really matter—while we ignore Our Lord.

A very special thanks to all
who worked so hard on the Guild
Tea. Kudos to Barbara Casey
whose dedication made it a truly
celebratory afternoon. I heard
nothing but rave reviews. Thanks
for bringing joy and laughter to our parish! Thank you also
to the Parish Nurse Ministry for organizing the Mass for
the Anointing of the Sick. The Red Sox fans in the
congregation were most appreciative! With the parish hall
down for the afternoon the crew quickly went to plan “B”
and had a wonderful reception in the Knights of Columbus
Hall.
We are still on target to hit our parish goal for the
Annual Catholic Appeal of $60,297. At present we have
pledged/made gifts totaling $46,035. That puts us at 76.35
% of our goal. Across the diocese the average is 75% of
goal. Thank you to those who have so generously donated
your treasure. Can we count on those who have yet to
contribute? Currently only 17.9% of registered families
have contributed (193). What makes or breaks a campaign
like this is participation. Even if it is only a dollar or two
you would be amazed the difference it makes in raising the
overall tally. Please be generous.
Do we realize that God loves us? The second reading
from Saint John is so simple and yet so profound.
“Beloved: See what love the Father has bestowed on us
that we may be called the children of God.” (1 JN 3).
There is a powerful chapter in the book, “The Shack” by
Paul Young titled “Here comes da Judge.” Mack is at his
weekend with the Trinity-Papa, Jesus, and Sarayu and he
is asked to appear before Wisdom. What is interesting is
that if you look how Mr. Young describes the
personification of Wisdom it sounds almost exactly like
Our Lady of Guadalupe. A woman with olive skin wearing
a multicolored robe with stars inlaid-sounds like
Guadalupe to me! Wisdom tells Mack that he is there to
judge God and the human race. It is a moving encounterMack asks if Papa loves his daughter Missy who was
abducted and killed. Wisdom says “yes, of course.” Missy,
we learn later, was a metaphor for Mr. Young’s lost
innocence through childhood sexual abuse. It was part of
his “great sadness.” You see, deep down, Mack (Paul
Young) could not believe that a God who would allow
such suffering and pain could actually be good. At best he
thought God might be some Gandalf figure (white, old,
imperious)-someone to be feared and respected, but not
someone who is good.
What about you? Have you experienced great loss?
Are you questioning how a good God can allow such
horrible things to happen in our world? Be of good cheer.
We have an Abba, a Papa, who is the most tender of all
Fathers-a Father that calls us His children. Let the depth
and breadth of His love penetrate the inmost reaches of
your heart until you will cry out “Abba, Father! Abba,
Father!”

The St. Patrick Guild & Knights of Columbus will be
awarding a $1000 scholarship each to a graduating high
school senior. Applicants must be graduating from high
school this spring, be an active member of St. Patrick
Parish & plan to further their education at a one, two or
four year school, college/university. Applications are

Introduction-Liturgy of the Word:
Catholic tradition calls this Fourth Sunday of Easter “Good
Shepherd Sunday.” In the Gospel of John, Jesus describes
himself as the Good Shepherd and his followers as the
sheep of his flock. He also proclaims his loving care even
for those who do not yet belong to his fold. the Church also
designates today as World Day of Prayer for Vocations,
asking Jesus our Good Shepherd to call generous souls to
serve the Lord’s flock in the priesthood, diaconate, and
religious life. As we gather for this celebration, let us
resolve to hear and heed our Good Shepherd’s voice, to
know and follow where Jesus leads.

St. Patrick Tea Party a Success!
The Saint Patrick Church Guild Tea Party held on April 21st was
a social event attended by parish women, relatives and friends
gathering to enjoy a pleasant afternoon over a cozy cup of
tea. Some wore fantastic hats while all wore happy faces. Irene
Salisbury rivaled the Queen mother in her flower nest hat with a
tremendous butterfly on top. Sheila Wall’s family looked wonderful, attired in very Victorian attire. All our ladies looked
lovely. Table hostesses; Isabel Vela, Barbara Casey, Jann Dalton, Melissa Jones, Bev Edwards, Sharon Mann, Jane Knotek,
Maria Camara, Arlene Bergan, Carol Lambert, Ann DeMarchi,
Carol Corliss, Marie Stone, Kim Lanou, Carli Lanou, Sarah
Casey Dell, Daisy Conway and Mary Lu Wall, creatively decorated and set their tables, poured tea and served refreshments.
They worked as a team preparing tea sandwiches and trifles.
Jessie Sjoblad and Debbie Hawkins assisted. Thanks. Audrey
Heidel collected tickets. Thank you. Lori Lechowicz, handled
ticket seating and payment. Our men: Warren, Gordon, Dan and
Jim, provided hot water urns and photography. Gary Corliss
was dashingly clad in a tux and escorted ladies to their tables.

Our guild president, Kim Lanou introduced Father Nagle who
said grace. Thank you Father. For some brief entertainment,
Michaela Harrington sang “Amazing Grace” and “Some Where
Over The Rainbow.” Thank you Michaela, you did a great job!
Mary Lu Wall decorated the hall as a pretty garden. Thanks so
much, Mary Lu. Certificates of Appreciation, were awarded to
Dorothy and Doris Lawson, Helen Boule and Jessie
Sjoblad for their many years of outstanding service and Christian leadership in behalf of Saint Patrick Church Guild. Our

military personnel who are fighting on the front lines for
