We wait in ”joyful hope” for the coming of Christ.
Joy is mentioned again and again in the prayers
and Readings of today’s Mass. In the First Reading
we hear Isaiah saying: “I rejoice heartily in the Lord, in my God is the
joy of my soul.” St. Paul’s Reading begins with the advice: “Rejoice
always.” John the Baptist gives the cause of our rejoicing when he tells
us in the Gospel: “Make straight the way of the Lord…there is one
among you whom you do not recognize, the one who is coming after
me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to untie.” It is Christ who is
coming and who is already among us. When we center our Christmas
preparations on Christ and focus on him, then we will have a deep joy
beyond our imagining (and in spite of everything that may worry
us). May God “prepare our hearts and remove the sadness that hinders
us from feeling the joy which his presence will bestow…”(words from
Opening Prayer B of today’s Mass).

This Sunday we are collecting canned goods and non perishable
food to help the needy of our community at Christmas. Please share
with families less fortunate during the holidays by bringing canned
goods and non-perishable food to Church when you come to Mass this
Sunday.

Esperamos en “gozosa espera la venida de Cristo”. El
gozo y la alegría es mencionado una y otra vez en las
oraciones y las Lecturas de la Misa de hoy. En la Primera Lectura
escuchamos a Isaías diciendo: “Me lleno de gozo en el Señor, en mi
Dios está el gozo de mi alma”. La Lectura de San Pablo comienza con
el consejo: “Vivan siempre alegres”. Juan Bautista nos dice la razón
de nuestra alegría, cuando nos dice en el Evangelio: Enderecen el
camino del Señor… hay en medio de ustedes uno al que ustedes no
conocen, alguien que viene detrás de mí, a quien yo no soy digno de
desatarle las correas de sus sandalias”. Es Cristo el que viene y el
que está ya entre nosotoros. Cuando centramos en Cristo nuestros
preparativos para la Navidad y nos enfocamos en Él , encontraremos
un profundo gozo más allá de lo que imaginamos (a pesar de todo lo
que nos preocupa). Que Dios prepare nuestros corazones y disipe la
tristeza que nos impide sentir la alegría que nos proporciona su

Este Domingo estaremos recibiendo comida enlatada y cosas
que no se echen a perder, para ayudar a los necesitados en
Navidad. Por favor compartan con las familias más necesitadas
durante estos días de fiesta. Por favor traigan las cosas este
domingo cuando vengan a la Misa.

Este Domingo es también el día de traer el reglalo que compraron para un niño necesitado de la Parroquia, representado por
un angelito en el árbol de Navidad en la Iglesia. Los regalos y la
comida serán preparados y entragados a las familias por la Sociedad de San Vicente de Paúl, esta semana. Muchas gracias
por su generosidad.

El horario completo para las Misas y confesiones para Navidad lo
encontrarán en el boletín. A la entrada de la Iglesia encontrarán
un folleto junto con el horario de Adviento y Navidad, así como
mucha información importante. Por favor tome en cuneta que la
Misa de Medianoche de la Víspera de Navidad sera a las 11:00
PM y será precedida por cantos de Navidad (Carols) que serán a
las 10:00 PM. El día de Navidad no habrá Misa de 2:30 y de
5:30 PM.

Les encargamos mucho que asistan a uno de los Servicios Penitenciales de Adviento, los cuales comenzarán el miércoles 17 de
diciembre en Santa María en Rosamond; el jueves 18 de diciembre en Fray Junípero Serra en Quartz Hill ; el Lunes 22 de
diciembre en el Sagrado Corazón en Lancaster; el martes 23 de
diciembre en Santa María en Palmdale. Todos los Servicios

This Sunday is also the time to bring to Church the gifts purchased
for the children represented by the angels on the Giving Tree in
Church. The gifts and food will be given by St. Vincent de Paul to the
families in need this week. Many thanks for your generosity.

The Christmas schedule of Masses and Confessions will be found
in today’s bulletin. An Advent/ Christmas brochure will be found at the
doors of the Church also with the schedule of all Advent and Christmas
services and other parish information. Please note that the Midnight
Mass on Christmas Eve will be at 11:00 PM with Carols beginning at
10:00 PM and on Christmas Day there will be no 2:30 PM or no 5:30
PM Masses.

We encourage you to come to one of the Advent Penance Services which begin on Wednesday, December 17th at St. Mary’s in Rosamond; on Thursday, December 18th at Blessed Junipero Serra Church
in Quartz Hill; on Monday, December 22nd at Sacred Heart Church in
Lancaster; on Tuesday, December 23rd at St. Mary’s in Palmdale. All
Penitential Services will begin at 7:30 PM. Many priests will be present
to help with the communal celebration of prayers, Scripture, Confession
of sin and experience of God’s forgiveness in the Sacrament of Penance or Reconciliation.

Senior Citizens are invited to come to receive God’s forgiveness in
the Sacrament of Penance this Friday morning, December 19th from
9:30 to 11:00 AM. Refreshments will be served.

Third Sunday of Advent
•
The Hispanic tradition of Las Posadas begins on Tuesday, December 16th. With prayer and song the community moves from house
to house with Mary and Joseph seeking shelter for the nine days before Christmas. It’s a beautiful way of entering into the spirit of preparing for Christmas. In our parish this tradition is observed by the Hispanic prayer groups in Lake Los Angeles, Littlerock and St. Mary’s in
Palmdale and by the Religious Education students at St. Mary’s on
Tuesday, December 16th in the new Parish Hall. The celebration of
Simbang Gabi with our Filipino community will take place on Saturday,
December 20th at the 5:30 PM Mass.

Las personas mayores recibirán el Sacramento de la Penitencia el
viernes 19, de 9:30 a 11:00 AM. Se servirán algunos bocadillos.
•
La tradición hispana de las Posadas comienza el jueves 16 de
diciembre. Se comienza con una procesión de casa en casa con el
rezo del Santo Rosario, durante los nueve días antes de la Navidad, con cantos apropiados y llevando las estatuas de María y
José que buscan posada en donde nazca Jesús. Esto se hace
para representar el largo y penoso viaje que ellos hicieron desde
Nazareth hasta Belén. Esto se hace como una bonita preparación
para Navidad. En nuestra Parroquia se prepara por los grupos
hispanos de Oración en Lake Los Angeles, en Littlerock y en Santa
María por los estudiantes del Programa de Educación Religiosa el
martes 16 de diciembre en el nuevo Salón Parroquial.

La celebración del Simbang Gabi, con la comunidad Filipina, tendrá
lugar el 20 de diciembre en la Misa de 5:30 PM .

Su regalo de Navidad a Dios en la colecta del Ofertorio en la Eucaristía es una manera maravillosa de mostrar su amor y agradecimeinto a Dios por el ragalo de su Unico Hijo Jesús. Su generoso
regalo en el Oferotorio de la Misa cada Domingo es sumamente
importante para pagar los recibos de la Parroquia cada mes y continuar con todos los programas religiosos, de educación y de servicios.

Todos están invitados a limpiar la Iglesia cada lunes de 12:00 a
3:00 PM. No necesitan registrarse ni comprometerse, solo venir y
ayudar a la limpieza de la Casa de Dios.

Christmas Program
The school’s Christmas Program will be held on December 18, 2008,
Thursday, at 7:00 pm in the church. Everyone is invited to attend as
our students bring in the holiday cheer. The PTO will have the “cookie
exchange” immediately following the program. Please bring your
home baked cookies with a copy of the recipe to exchange.
Christmas Vacation
The last day of school before Christmas vacation is on December 19,
2008, Friday, with dismissal at 12:30 pm. Regular classes will resume
on January 5, 2009, Monday. We wish everyone a happy and safe
vacation.
Traffic Pattern
Please observe all traffic rules and pattern while in the church and
school property. All vehicles are to enter the church and school parking lot at the West Gate (near the school) and exit through the East
Gate. This traffic pattern is to be observed at all times. Thank you
for your cooperation.

Make an Advent Wreath for your home. Make a
wreath of evergreen and holly to encircle four candles
for the Advent Season. The circle represents eternity,
for a circle has no beginning and no end like God’s love
which is everlasting. The evergreen tree which is always green pictures life, growth, hope. Use three purple candles and one pink. The purple candle signifies the
time of preparation time of looking into ourselvesrecognizing the need we have for Jesus. The pink candle is for the third Sunday of Advent-the joyful Sunday-for it represents the joy we know because God
loved us so much that He sent Jesus in the world. On
the first Sunday of Advent light your first Advent candle and a new one each consecutive Sunday. You can
light them every night at supper and have a member of
the family offer a short prayer. The light of the candles may be dim at first, but it will become brighter
each week! Your expectation will increase and remind
you that Jesus is the Light of the World.
St. Mary’s Hallelujah Choir invites choir members to
joyfully sing at the Christmas Eve, Midnight Mass at
11:00 PM. Kathleen Green is Choir Director and invites interested singers to come to the rehearsals on:

Thank you to all the Parishioners who contributed food for the
needy for Thanksgiving. God Bless you all, you made a lot of

We will be distributing Christmas bags with presents on Dec
18th to all those families that signed up in November (as was
announced) please, only those that came to sign up. We will be
closed on Dec.19th. and reopen on Jan. 14th. There will be
referral lists in the Parish office for the very needy that come
when we are closed.

CHRISTMAS NOVENA
Catholics in many cultures pray the Christmas Novena (nine consecutive days of prayer) from December 16-24. It is a devotion well worth reviving, particularly in young families,
for it focuses attention intensely on our expectation of the Coming King, and helps to prepare us spiritually to receive him into our hearts. We suggest you to pray the “O Antiphons” as an ideal Christmas Novena. The “O Antiphons” are prayed in a seven day novena from December 18—24. Today the Antiphons are familiar to us in the traditional
Advent hymn, “O Come, O Come Emmanuel.
The Antiphons can be prayed at home at family dinner or with the lighting of the Advent wreath. Symbols can be used as ornaments to be hung on a tree. Your Novena begins
with the Our Father and Hail Mary, then pray The Magnificat (Luke 1:46-55) and the “O Antiphons”
