Lacing Cards
Children love lacing cards. You have the
option of printing up color or b & w cards to
color yourself.
You can print up the color lacing cards, cut
out on the dotted line, laminate, and punch
holes around the card using a hole punch.
Give the children lacing strings, yarn or
shoe laces to lace the cards.
The b & w set can also be used as an
additional craft for the children. Give each
child one of the cards, have them color and
cut out. Have an adult punch holes, and
they can lace using the above options of
string.

Words That Begin With Y Book
Print out the following pages to make a "Words That
Start with Y” book, an early reader book for young
readers about the letter Y.
There are two rectangular book pages on each
printed page. Have the children cut each page in half
along the dotted line. Staple the pages together at
the left of the page, then read the book, color the
pages, and practice writing the letter Y or the words.

Recognizing the Letter “Y”
Introduce the letter “Y” to the children by
showing them the written word “Yak” and
helping them to see that it begins with a “Y”.
Cut a large yak shape out of paper and write
the letter “Y” on it. Have the children tear or cut
out magazine pictures beginning with the letter
“Y” and then glue the pictures on the window
shape.
Another idea is to pick up stickers from a local
scrapbook store that start with the letter Y.
Yardstick, Yellow, Youngster, etc., and have
the children place on the yak shape.

Yo-yo Collage
What You Need:
Contact paper
Assorted construction or tissue paper
Piece of yarn or string
Directions:
Cut the contact paper into the shape
of a large circle. Have the children place assorted
construction paper on the contact paper
to make a colorful yo-yo. Let them add a piece of
yarn to the top of the yo-yo.
Cover the circle with another piece of contact paper
and cut to form a yo-yo collage.

Yarn Y's
Make a Y pattern from heavy cardboard. Help the
kids trace around the pattern on yellow
construction paper. Invite the children to cut out
their own Y's. Give each child several pieces of
yarn in different colors to cut into small pieces.
Give them a small cup of glue and have them
brush glue on the yellow paper Y. Drop pieces of
yarn on the glue
Yolk paint
Mix up food coloring and egg yolks. Paint
whatever you want. This will give a nice effect.
Yellow soap crayons
Measure one cup of mild powdered laundry soap.
Add one tablespoon of food coloring. Add water
by the teaspoonful until the soap is in liquid form.
Stir well. pour the soap into ice cube trays. Set in
a sunny dry place until hard.
Make yellow books
Have each child fold a piece of yellow
construction paper in half to form a book. Suggest
children cut out pictures from a magazine of
yellow items to glue inside their books.

Yellow Collage
Have children bring in things that are yellow that
can be glued onto a class collage or an individual
collage, such as, scraps of fabric or paper, beads,
buttons, yarn ribbon, etc.
Yellow Flowers
Give each of the children a piece of paper and
yellow paint. Have them paint yellow flowers
on their paper. They can draw in green stems and
grass to complete the picture.
Yakity Yaks
Show pictures of yaks and talk about them. Ask
children to get down on hands and feet and
pretend to be yaks in a yard. Ask them to crawl
forward and backward. Move quickly then very
slowly.
Yo-Yo
Get a couple of yo-yo’s and have the kids try the
standard yo-yo tricks. Walk the dog, etc. Let them
