Lacing Cards
Children love lacing cards. You have the
option of printing up color or b & w cards to
color yourself.
You can print up the color lacing cards, cut
out on the dotted line, laminate, and punch
holes around the card using a hole punch.
Give the children lacing strings, yarn or
shoe laces to lace the cards.
The b & w set can also be used as an
additional craft for the children. Give each
child one of the cards, have them color and
cut out. Have an adult punch holes, and
they can lace using the above options of
string.

Words That Begin With O Book
Print out the following pages to make a "Words That
Start with O” book, an early reader book for young
readers about the letter O.
There are two rectangular book pages on each
printed page. Have the children cut each page in half
along the dotted line. Staple the pages together at
the left of the page, then read the book, color the
pages, and practice writing the letter O or the words.

Recognizing the Letter “O”
Introduce the letter “O” to the children by
showing them the written word “Overalls” and
helping them to see that it begins with a “O”.
Cut a large overall shape out of paper and write
the letter “O” on it. Have the children tear or cut
out magazine pictures beginning with the letter
“O” and then glue the pictures on the overall
shape.
Another idea is to pick up stickers from a local
scrapbook store that start with the letter O.
Orange, Oval, Owl, etc., and have the children
place on the overall shape.

What You Need:

Assorted construction or tissue paper.
Directions:

Opposites
Make a list of opposites then each child can pick

Everyone bring in something Orange from home.
Have students fill in - I have an orange _____. Then
illustrate.
Obstacle Course
Set up a simple obstacle course in your room. For
example, include cardboard cartons to crawl
through, small pillows to jump over, a long board to
walk across, and a padded footstool to climb over.
Let the children take turns going through the
obstacle course throughout O week. On the final
day, make ribbons from construction paper and
print O's on them. Present one ribbon to each child
as he/she completes the obstacle course.
Octopus In The Ocean
Give each child a butter tub to use as a body of an
octopus. Have him/her cut out 8 legs and tape them
to the lid then put the lid on the upside down tub.
Use markers to add eyes, mouth and other
features.

Make a wind sock octopus
Ornament
Make some for the Christmas tree.
Oscar the grouch
Take a film canister, and add a green pompon. Give
him some wiggly eyes and glue the film canister lid
on top.
Owl
Make an owl puppet.
Oyster
Take a small paper plate and fold in half. Add a
cotton ball to the inside and draw eyes on top.
Printing O's
Pour different colors of tempera paint into shallow
containers. Set out white construction paper and
objects with round open ends, such as cardboard
toilet paper tubes, drinking straws, butter tubs of all
sizes, and plastic bottles. Invite the children to print
O's of various colors and sizes by dipping the open
ends of the objects into the paint and pressing them
on their papers.
