Leah Globe Memorial Evening of
Mavoi Satum
Welcome to the Tenth Annual Leah Globe Memorial Evening,
dedicated to preserving the memory of Leah Globe, z”l, pioneering
founder of Mavoi Satum, the organization helping agunot and
mesoravot get (women denied divorce).
One out of every seven Jewish women in Israel is unable to freely exit her
marriage. Halacha, which is upheld by Israeli law, gives absolute authority over
marriage and divorce to the religious courts and empowers men as the sole
executors of the divorce process This situation leaves women vulnerable to
extortion, manipulation and abuse.Thousands of women, mesoravot get are living
through this nightmare, neither married nor divorced, stuck for years or even
decades in a state of limbo, prevented from leaving their unwanted marriages and
unable to build new lives for themselves.
Mavoi Satum, a non profit organisation established in 1996, takes a unique approach
to helping mesoravot get by working simultaneously on the micro and the macro
– that is, by helping individual women while advocating for broader reform. In the
personal realm, Mavoi Satum offers a range of legal and social support services,
including legal counseling, legal aid, social support, empowerment programs,
therapy, and more. On the systemic level, Mavoi Satum advocates for reform of
the marriage and divorce system in Israel through strategic advocacy, networking,
and campaigns for public awareness.
Mavoi Satum opened a branch in Beersheva in 2009, in order to serve the
population in the south. In August 2011, we launched a counseling center for
prenuptial agreements (‘Sign and Wed’) where Mavoi Satum lawyers provide legal
counseling regarding pre and post nuptial agreements. The center also directs
couples to halachic private rabbinical courts where they will be able to reach
a fair settlement without having to succumb to extortion and diminishing the
potential for mesoravot get.
Tonight, Mavoi Satum honors the memory of its founder, Leah Globe, by honoring
three people who have done important work to help mesoravot get: MK Otniel
Schneller, Dr. Mira Birenbaum and Ms. Judith Garson-Djemal. Details about their
work are highlighted in this journal. In addition, we are delighted to feature the
film ‘The Help’.

Letter from our Director
Program
Dear Friends,
The Jewish ideals of ethics and social justice, as espoused by our prophets,
are the foundations of our national and religious lives here in Israel - a Jewish
and democratic state.The continued injustice of state sanctioned discrimination
against women and the denial of their basic rights to marry, remarry and have
children is unacceptable in a state that was built on these values.
Mavoi Satum was originally established to provide help and support to individual
women in their struggle for such personal freedoms. Intensification of the
problem of get refusal at the hands of a corrupt state authorized rabbanut,
has led Mavoi Satum to take the lead in promoting social change in the field of
marriage and divorce in Israel.
Despairing of seeing legislative and halakhic change in the near future, we are
calling for social protest that will lead to the transfer of marriage and divorce
issues from the control of the rabbanut to private rabbinical courts.
Our newly established “Chotmim U’Mitchatnim” (Sign & Wed) project calls on
engaged couples at this monumental moment in their lives to sign prenuptial
agreements that will assure them the protection of private rabbinical courts in
the event of marital crisis. We appeal to sympathetic rabbis to strengthen this
effort and, thereby the authority of private rabbinical courts, by advocating the
use of prenuptial and monetary agreements in their premarital conversations
with couples who turn to them to sanctify their marriage.
On the occasion of our 10th annual tribute in memory of Leah Globe, the
founder of Mavoi Satum, we are pleased to honor three outstanding personalities
who have promoted the goals of the organization through their work.
MK Otniel Shneller, in the area of legislation; Dr. Mira Birenbaum, as a veteran
melava (companion to women seeking a get); Ms. Judith Garson-Djemal, as cofounder of Mavoi Satum, member of the board, and initiator of the “Sign and
Wed” project.

the state of Israel.

Being an Aguna: Woman Voices
Yael Fachima
MK Otniel Schneller
Yael is a 28 years old attractive, well dressed ultra – Orthodox woman. She left her husband
and her home three years ago with her children ages 8,6, and 5 as a result of his violence and
abuse. Since then Yael has been working as a caretaker for the elderly in a part time position,
earning minimum wage. She is a professional confectionery maker and would like to return
to this as soon as she is able.
Yael was born in Jerusalem into an ultra-Orthodox family of seven. She was married off at
the age of 19 to a man who she soon discovered was mentally unstable. Although it was
clear he had serious behavioral problems, her family did not agree to her divorcing him. She
unwillingly stayed married for another 6 years, during which they purchased a house and Yael
gave birth to her three children. Yael suffered greatly from her husband’s unbalanced and
inappropriate behavior as well as being fearful for the safety of her children. He also became
obsessive over her and would follow her everywhere, causing her to be fired from two jobs.
In 2008, she finally decided that she could no longer bear living with him and with no other
options she moved back into her parent’s home in Ramat Shlomo.There Yael and her 3
children have been living in one small room in difficult conditions.Yael contacted Mavoi Satum
in March of this year. She was represented by a lawyer, but her case was not moving ahead.
Her husband was constantly changing his demands and continually refusing to grant her a get.
He was not giving Yael any rent money (although he continued to live in their shared home),
making it impossible for her to leave her parent’s house and rent a place of her own. He was
also awarded visitations with the children alone, even though Yael continually protested that
he was unable to properly watch over them. The court also failed to provide a professional
assessment of her children’s situation.Yael and the children were suffering from the effects of
longtime abuse by her husband and were also currently suffering in Yael’s family environment.
Once Yael contacted Mavoi Satum, our lawyer, Gittit Nachliel began to represent her in the
district court on the issues of property, and damages. Mavoi Satum then found a lawyer to
represent Yael in the Rabbinical courts and both lawyers worked in complete coordination
with one another. Our social worker, Ruthie Tick, organized an assessment of the children,
and arranged for after school care to minimize time spent in the parent’s home. She then
referred Yael and the children for subsidized emotional treatment, and a government rental
subsidy. A few months ago Yael moved into a small one room apartment and they are
living freely and independently for the first time. Yael also participated in an empowerment
program organized by Mavoi Satum with other mesoravot get. Through this she has become
close to one of the women and they are now a mutual support system for one another. She
also participated in a rally against the appointment of a rabbinical judge who was impeding
her case in the bet din. According to Yael, taking part in both these activities has given her
strength and restored the feeling that she has control over her life.
On October 26th, with the persistence of the rabbinical advocate, together with the threat
of the property and damages claim presented by Mavoi satum’s lawyer in the district court,
Yael’s husband finally agreed to grant her a ‘get’. It was at that moment, as she came smiling
out of the room where she had just acquired her divorce, that the first rains began to fall.

The Honorees:
Otniel Schneller born in Jerusalem in 1952, and was educated in the
religious kibbutz movement. He served as an officer in the paratroopers
and holds the rank of colonel. He served as head of the Judea and
Samaria division when on reserve duty.
He was a Bnei Akiva shaliah in North America, and became a member
of the world directorate of the Bnei Akiva Youth Organization. He
consequently managed the education department of the World Zionist
Organization, and then served as the general secretary of the Yesha
Council. He was head of the national committee for road safety, and
acted as an advisor on state affairs to successive governments in Israel..
In 2006 Otniel Schneller was elected to the Knesset as a Kadima party
MK, and since then he has held a Knesset seat. Otniel Shneler is a very
active MK, who invests much in the way of resources to finding solutions
to the issues of religion and state. He is a member of the committee for
appointing judges and invests a great deal of time into trying to appoint
worthy dayanim. He aspires to obtain agreement among opposing
points of view, and achieve compromise on controversial issues.
Otniel stands together with Mavoi Satum in promoting joint legal
initiatives, such as the latest ‘sanctions’ law to pass in the Knesset.
Otniel is married to Dina, father of four and grandfather of nine, and
lives in Ma’ale Michmash.

Dr. Mira Birenbaum
Judith Garson - Djemal
Dr. Mira Birenbaum was born in Israel and has a doctorate (Ph.D.) in Life
Sciences from Bar Ilan Univrsity. She works in the Pathological Institute
of Assaf HaRofe hospital. She is married to Dr. Gabriel Birenbaum,
mother of five, and grandmother of five.
Judith Garson Djemal was born in Gibraltar in 1963.
Mira joined Mavoi Satum as a melava - volunteer companion, in order
to assist women who feel pushed into a corner with no way out. Mira
has provided emotional and moral support to women who are going
through the difficult process of obtaining a get.

Judith was interested in women’s issues from very early on and as part
of her studies at Bristol University spent 6 months in South America
working on a dissertation: Women in the Peruvian Sierras – The
Invisible Factor.
She worked in the BBC in London until she married her husband, Jack,
and moved to Thailand. They have lived in Israel since 1993 and have 6
children.
“Approximately four years ago, I met Sarit; a modest and gentle woman,
mother of two, whose husband physically and mentally abused her and
their children. She left him several times, but was advised by her rabbi
to return to him. When she decided to leave him for good I contacted
the rabbi, and asked him to speak to the husband to give her a get. He
answered me: “Why does she need a get? Is she planning on remarrying?
Let her stay like this!”
Judith met Leah Globe in 1995 when working on a documentary on
mesoravot get. She was horrified by the stories that Leah told her and
could not believe that this abuse was being implemented in the name
of Judaism.
In my experience, it is women in the religious and Haredi world, who
are vulnerable and whose husbands abuse them with the support of
the rabbis. The cases of these innocent women demonstrate how a
distorted notion of the halacha can lead to false judgment, and injustice.
As a religious woman, who sees halacha as a guiding light, I wish to
correct the injustice.”
She was Chair of the organization from 2001 - 2008
Judith has worked as a freelance video producer and editor.
Judith was instrumental in establishing Mavoi Satum in 1996 and has
been involved in every aspect since - program development, fundraising,
grant writing and donor relations.

Leah Globe, z”l, the founder of Mavoi satum was a remarkable woman
of enormous wisdom, understanding, and compassion all compacted
into a diminutive body. She is remembered for her courageous and
unwavering commitment to agunot and mesoravot get.
At the age of 84, Leah wrote a book called, The Dead End (translated
into Hebrew as Mavoi Satum) which chronicles the stories of many
of the agunot and mesoravot get that she helped - women who she
feared had reached a “dead end” in their divorce proceedings. The
organization took its name from her book.
Leah founded Mavoi Satum in her living room in Jerusalem when she
was already in her 90’s. Her fiery passion inspired the establishment of
the organization.Today, every woman assisted by Mavoi Satum has Leah
to thank.

What is a pre-nuptial agreement?
It is an agreement signed by a couple, usually before marriage, to address the
unfortunate situation in which they might face the challenge of divorce. The
agreement activates various mechanisms that make the divorce process more
dignified and egalitarian, thereby preventing any abusive use of the divorce process.

What service does the organization provide?
We arrange for the couple to meet with an attorney who will explain, offer
advice and draw up an agreement between them. The agreement must then
be authorized by a notary public or submitted to the marriage registrar of
the religious council. Authorization of a post-nuptial agreement must be done
in family court.
What is unique about this service?
It provides comprehensive information about the nature of a pre-nuptial
agreement, a clear explanation of the various kinds of agreements that exist,
and then helps the couple choose the one most suitable to them.
We recommend that couples include in their agreement a clause
that stipulates mediation as the means by which they will navigate
the distribution of their assets and that the mediation take place
in a private beit din. We also enable the couple to stipulate in the
agreement that in case of divorce they will turn to a private beit din
to arrange the divorce itself.

‫לצורך כך ייסדנו השנה את מיזם ’חותמים ומתחתנים‘‪ ,‬המסייע לזוגות להינשא עם‬
‫הסכמי קדם נישואין אשר בנוסף להגנה המשפטית אותם הם מעניקים ‪ ,‬מאפשר לזוג‬
‫ערב נישואיו לבחור בבית דין פרטי‪.‬‬
‫אנו קוראות לזוגות צעירים העומדים להינשא לקחת אחריות על ההתקשרות שלהם‪,‬‬
‫ולהינשא רק עם הסכמי קדם נישואים‪ .‬באותה מידה אנו קוראות לרבנים המודאגים‬
‫אף הם מעיוות פניה של היהדות בבתי הדין הרבניים‪ ,‬לעודד זוגות לחתום על הסכמי‬
‫קדם נישואין והסכמי ממון שיגנו על בני הזוג במצבי פרידה‪ ,‬ולחזק את סמכויות בתי‬
‫הדין הפרטיים‪.‬‬

‫יהודית ודמוקרטית ומאושיות חיינו היהודיים והלאומיים‪ .‬ועל כן לא נוכל להשלים עם‬
‫שלילת זכויות בסיסיות מאלפי נשים עגונות ומסורבות גט המנועות מלהינשא‪ ,‬ללדת‬
‫ילדים ולשקם את חייהן מחדש ‪ -‬העוולות הללו נעשות יום יום בחסות המדינה והחוק‪.‬‬

‫שלושה אישים יקרים אלה הם סמל ומופת לעשייה ציבורית נחושה למען מטרה‬
‫חברתית ראויה‪ .‬אנו שמחים על הזכות שנפלה בחלקנו להביע את הערכתנו לפועלם‪.‬‬

‫ממקום כה בודד וכואב הגיעה יעל ל'מבוי סתום'‪ .‬נשות הארגון עטפו אותה מיד בחום‬
‫ואכפתיות‪ ,‬הושיטו לה יד והדריכו אותה בכל צעד וצעד בדרכה קשה והמייגעת‪ :‬בזירה‬
‫המשפטית‪ ,‬לקחה על עצמה גיתית נחליאל‪ ,‬עורכת הדין של 'מבוי סתום' את ייצוגה של‬
‫יעל בבית משפט לענייני משפחה בתיקי רכוש ונזיקין‪ .‬במקביל סייענו לה באיתור עורכת דין‬
‫לייצוג בבית הדין הרבני‪ ,‬עורכות הדין פעלו בשיתוף פעולה מלא‪ .‬בזירת הרווחה‪ ,‬החלה יעל‬
‫להיפגש באופן קבוע עם רותי טיק‪ ,‬העובדת הסוציאלית של 'מבוי סתום'‪ ,‬שחיזקה אותה‬
‫וסייעה לה להתמודד נפשית עם המכשולים הרגשיים שהקיפו אותה‪ .‬בזירה הביורוקרטית‬
‫זירז הטיפול המשרדי בענייניה לקיום תהליך הערכה ומסוגלות הורית שכתוצאה ממנו הפכו‬
‫ביקורי האב להיות תחת פיקוח‪ .‬בנוסף‪ ,‬הילדים נכנסו למסגרות של צהרונים‪ ,‬שצמצמו את‬
‫שהותם הלא חיובית בבית הוריה ואפשרו ליעל למצוא עבודה מספקת יותר בתחום עיסוקה‪.‬‬
‫בזירה החברתית‪ ,‬החלה יעל לקחת חלק פעיל יותר ב'מבוי סתום' והשתתפה בתכנית‬
‫העצמה לנשים‪ .‬במסגרת זו היא יצרה קשר הדוק עם אישה אחרת וכעת הן מהוות מערכת‬
‫תמיכה הדדית‪ .‬יעל גם השתתפה בעצרת שהתקיימה מול משרד המשפטים נגד מינוי דיינים‬
‫לא ראויים‪ ,‬ביניהם הדיין שעיכב את הגט בתיק שלה‪ .‬לדבריה‪ ,‬ההשתתפות בפעילויות אלו‬
‫נותנת לה כוח ומחזירה לה את תחושת השליטה על חייה‪.‬‬

‫בחודש האחרון נפרצה הדרך‪ .‬עו"ד גיתית נחליאל הגישה בשמה של יעל תביעת נזיקין נגד‬
‫בעלה‪ .‬בסיוע רותי טיק החלה יעל לקבל סיוע בשכר דירה ועברה לגור עם ילדיה בדירה‬
‫משלה‪ .‬במקביל‪ ,‬היא החלה לעבור עם ילדיה תהליך טיפולי משמעותי‪ .‬המאמץ המשותף‬
‫והמרוכז נשא פרי וכחלוף שבוע מהגשת תביעת הנזיקין קיבלה יעל‪ ,‬בשעה טובה‪ ,‬את‬
‫הגט‪ .‬כשיצאה יעל זוהרת מבניין הרבנות ובידה הגט המיוחל‪ ,‬נפתחו ארובות השמים‬
‫והחלו לרדת הגשמים הראשונים של החורף הזה‪ ,‬גשמי ברכה‪.‬‬
‫עתניאל שנלר נולד בירושלים בשנת ‪ .1952‬התחנך‬
‫בקיבוץ הדתי והיה פעיל בתנועת הנוער בני עקיבא‬
‫כמדריך‪ ,‬כשליח התנועה בצפון אמריקה וכחבר‬
‫ההנהלה הארצית והעולמית של התנועה‪ .‬שנלר ניהל‬
‫את אגף ההדרכה של ההסתדרות הציונית‪ ,‬כיהן כמזכ"ל‬
‫מועצת יש"ע‪ ,‬עמד בראש הרשות הלאומית לבטיחות‬
‫בדרכים ועסק בייעוץ מדיני בכמה ממשלות‪ .‬עתניאל‬
‫שנלר נשוי לדינה‪ ,‬אב לארבעה ילדים וסב לתשעה‬
‫נכדים‪ ,‬גר במעלה מכמש‪.‬‬
‫את שירותו הצבאי עשה שנלר כקצין בחטיבת הצנחנים‬
‫והגיע לדרגת אלוף משנה‪ .‬בשירות המילואים שימש כראש מטה אוגדת יהודה ושומרון‬
‫בשנת ‪ 2006‬התמנה מטעם מפלגת קדימה לכנסת ה‪ 17-‬ומאז הוא מכהן כחבר כנסת‪.‬‬
‫הארוע השנתי העשירי של מבוי סתום ע”ש לאה גלוב ז”ל‬
‫יעל )‪ (28‬היא בחורה נאה‪ ,‬תמירה ומטופחת‪ .‬מאז שעזבה את בעלה יחד עם שלושת‬
‫ילדיהם בגילאים ‪ 6 ,5‬ו‪ - 7-‬הפכה יעל למסורבת גט שהשיגה את פת לחמה כמטפלת‬
‫בקשישים בשכר מינימום‪ .‬במקצועה יעל היא קונדיטורית וחולמת לעסוק במקצועה‪.‬‬
‫יעל נולדה בירושלים למשפחה חרדית בת שבע נפשות שחיה בתנאים קשים‪ .‬היא נישאה‬
‫בגיל ‪ 19‬לאדם שעם השנים התברר כי הוא סובל מהפרעות נפשיות‪ .‬עקב התנגדות‬
‫משפחתה בכל תוקף לגרושין‪ ,‬נאלצה יעל להישאר עם בעלה במשך שש שנים נוספות‬
‫שבמהלכן ילדה שלושה ילדים‪ .‬כל אותן שנים סבלו יעל והילדים מאלימות והתעללות‬
‫של הבעל‪ ,‬ויעל חששה לשלומם של ילדיה‪ .‬בעלה הפך לאובססיבי כלפיה ועקב אחריה‬
‫לכל מקום‪ ,‬מה שגרם לפיטוריה משני מקומות עבודה‪ .‬לפני כשלוש שנים החליטה‬
‫יעל לעשות מעשה מכיוון שלא יכלה לשאת עוד את החיים איתו‪ ,‬מחוסר אופציות‬
‫אחרות‪ ,‬היא חזרה לגור בבית הוריה בשכונה החרדית בירושלים‪ .‬מהלך זה היה קשה‬
‫מאוד‪ ,‬בעיקר משום שהם נאלצו להצטופף בחדר אחד קטן וסבלו מתנאים קשים‪.‬‬
‫בתחילת חודש מארס השנה יצרה יעל קשר עם ארגון 'מבוי סתום'‪ .‬אף שכבר היה לה‬
‫עורך דין‪ ,‬היא הרגישה שהדברים לא מתקדמים ולמעשה הלכו ונסוגו‪ .‬בעלה שינה בכל‬
‫דיון את דרישותיו בהסכם הגירושין וסירב בכל תוקף לתת לה גט וכספים שהגיעו לה‪ ,‬מה‬
‫שמנע ממנה את האפשרות לגור בדירה משלה ולהשתקם‪ .‬יעל הזהירה את בית המשפט‬
‫שבעלה לא מסוגל להשגיח על הילדים )כפי שמקרים רבים הוכיחו זאת שוב ושוב( אבל‬
‫פנייתה לא נענתה‪ .‬יעל והילדים הראו סימנים ברורים של פגיעה רגשית‪ ,‬ויעל חשה עצמה‬
‫'מוכה' לא רק על ידי הסובבים אותה‪ ,‬אלא גם על ידי רשויות החוק‪.‬‬

‫מקבלי הפרסים‪:‬‬
‫עתניאל שנלר הוא חבר כנסת פעיל מאוד המקדיש משאבים רבים למציאת פתרונות‬
‫בתחום יחסי דת ומדינה‪ .‬הוא חבר הוועדה למינוי דיינים ומתוקף תפקידו זה הוא פועל‬
‫לבחירתם של דיינים ראויים‪ .‬בדרכו המיוחדת מצליח שנלר להגיע להסכמות גם עם‬
‫בעלי עמדות מנוגדות לו ובכך הוא מקדם נושאים שנויים במחלוקת‪.‬‬
‫עתניאל שנלר עמד לימין ארגון 'מבוי סתום' בקידום הצעות חוק משותפות‪ ,‬כמו למשל‬
‫הצעת החוק האחרונה‪ :‬התיקון לחוק קיום פסקי דין )חוק הסנקציות(‪.‬‬
‫התיקון לחוק בתי דין רבניים )קיום פסקי דין של גירושין(‪ ,‬התשנ"ה‪1995-‬‬
‫משנת ‪ 1995‬נחקק בישראל ’החוק לקיום פסקי דין’‪ ,‬הנקרא גם ’חוק הסנקציות’‪.‬‬
‫חוק זה מאפשר לבית הדין הרבני להטיל צווי הגבלה על סרבן הגט במקרים שבהם‬
‫פסק הדין למתן גט אינו מקוים‪ .‬הסנקציות הכלולות בחוק מאפשרות להשית על‬
‫סרבן הגט צו איסור יציאה מן הארץ‪ ,‬עיקול חשבון בנק‪ ,‬שלילת רישיון נהיגה וכדומה‬
‫ואף מאסר בבית הכלא‪.‬‬
‫המצב הקיים היום בבתי הדין הוא‪ ,‬שעל אף שפסקי דין רבים למתן גט אינם מקוימים‪,‬‬
‫הדיינים נמנעים מלעשות שימוש בחוק הסנקציות‪ ,‬למרות שיעילותו הוכחה‪ .‬התיקון‬
‫המוצע בחוק נועד לחייב את בתי הדין לקיים דיון מעקב שמשמעו נקיטת סנקציות‬
‫כלפי הצד המסרב לתת גט‪ .‬צעד זה מטיל אחריות יתרה על בתי הדין ומוודא כי‬
‫הם יאכפו את פסקי הדין למתן גט שנתנו‪ .‬יישום החוק עשוי לקצר משמעותית את‬
‫תקופת ההתעללות והסחטנות כלפי נשים שאינן מקבלות גט‪ ,‬ולשים קץ לסחבת‬
‫בחסות בתי הדין הרבניים‪ .‬עד כה אושר החוק בוועדת חוקה חוק ומשפט וכעת הוא‬
‫בשלב הכנתו לקריאה שנייה ושלישית‪.‬‬

‫השלמתי תואר שלישי במחלקה למדעי החיים באוניברסיטת בר אילן‪ ,‬ואני עובדת‬
‫במכון לפתולוגיה במרכז הרפואי 'אסף הרופא'‪.‬‬
‫אני נשואה לד"ר גבריאל בירנבאום‪ ,‬אם לחמישה ילדים וסבתא לחמישה נכדים‪ .‬גרה‬
‫בבני ברק‪.‬‬
‫כאישה דתית אורתודוקסית‪ ,‬החווה את הפער בין מקומה של האישה בעולם האקדמי‬
‫לבין מקומה בחברה הדתית )ובעיקר החרדית(‪ ,‬חשתי צורך לעזור למגזר החלש‬
‫ביותר בכל חברה‪ ,‬הנשים‪ ,‬ובפרט בחברה סגורה וממודרת כמו המגזר הדתי‪-‬חרדי‪.‬‬
‫הצטרפתי בהתנדבות לארגון 'מבוי סתום' כדי לתמוך בנשים שהגיעו שלא ברצונן‬
‫למצבים שאין מהם כל מוצא‪.‬‬
‫לפני כארבע שנים פגשתי בשרית‪ ,‬אישה חסידה וצנועה‪ ,‬אם לשני ילדים‪ ,‬שבעלה‬
‫התעלל בה ובילדיה נפשית ופיזית‪ .‬היא נמלטה ממנו מספר פעמים וכל פעם חזרה‬
‫אליו בעצת הרב‪ .‬לבסוף החליטה לעשות מעשה ולא שבה לבעלה‪ .‬כאשר ניסיתי‬
‫לעזור‪ ,‬התקשרתי לרב וביקשתי ממנו שידבר על לב הבעל שישחרר את האישה‪ .‬הוא‬
‫ענה לי ברצינות רבה‪ :‬למה היא צריכה גט? היא מתכוונת להתחתן? שתישאר כך!‬

‫מניסיוני‪ ,‬דווקא הנשים מהמגזר הדתי‪-‬חרדי מנוצלות לרעה ביתר שאת בידי הבעל‪,‬‬
‫אשר נשמע לקול רבנים התומכים בו ולא מכירים כלל את האישה ואת סיפורה‪ .‬הן‬
‫מנוצלות לרעה בידי דיינים הנוטים לתמוך בבעל וברבנים שהוא מביא אתו‪ .‬המקרים‬
‫של נשים תמימות אלו מוכיחים כיצד יכול עיוות בהבנת ההלכה לגרום לעיוות הדין‬
‫והצדק‪ .‬כאישה דתית שההלכה היא נר לרגליה‪ ,‬אני מבקשת לתקן את מה שצריך‬
‫תיקון כי הרי 'דרכיה דרכי נועם‪ ,‬וכל נתיבותיה שלום'‪.‬‬

‫באוניברסיטת בריסטול שבאנגליה‪ ,‬היא עבדה במשך שישה חודשים בדרום אמריקה‬
‫על עבודת הגמר שלה בנושא‪' :‬נשים בסיירה הפרואנית – הגורם הבלתי נראה'‪.‬‬
‫בתקופת לימודיה בלונדון עבדה ג'ודית ברשת בי‪-‬בי‪-‬סי ולאחר מכן הייתה מפיקה‬
‫ועורכת וידיאו עצמאית‪ .‬לאחר נישואיה לג'ק עברה להתגורר עמו בתאילנד ומשנת‬
‫‪ 1993‬חיים ג'ודית וג'ק בישראל עם ששת ילדיהם‪.‬‬
‫במסגרת עבודתה כמפיקת סרטים עצמאית‪ ,‬עבדה ג'ודית על סרט תיעודי העוסק‬
‫בנשים מסורבות גט‪ .‬כך היא פגשה את לאה גלוב‪ ,‬מייסדת ארגון 'מבוי סתום'‪,‬‬
‫ונחשפה לראשונה לבעיית מסורבות הגט והעגונות‪ .‬ג'ודית התחלחלה ממצבן של‬
‫הנשים מסורבות הגט וסירבה להשלים עם העובדה כי ההתעללות הזאת נעשית‬
‫בשם היהדות‪ .‬זה היה המניע אשר גרם לה להצטרף ללאה גלוב ולסייע לה בהקמת‬
‫העמותה בשנת ‪.1996‬‬
‫מאז ועד היום מעורבת ג'ודית בכל היבט הכרוך בעבודת הארגון ‪ -‬מפיתוח תכניות‬
‫ומשאבים‪ ,‬דרך כתיבת בקשות ויחסי ציבור ועד פתיחת ביתה לכל פעילויות הארגון‪.‬‬
‫ג'ודית היא חברת ועד המנהל של 'מבוי סתום' ואף כיהנה כיושבת הראש שלו בין‬
‫השנים ‪.2008–2001‬‬

‫הסכם הנערך בין בני הזוג המתייחס למצב עתידי אפשרי שבו נישואיהם יעלו על‬

‫לאה עברה בחייה תקופות היסטוריות סוערות‪ :‬היא נולדה בפולין והיגרה לארצות‬
‫הברית בתנאים קשים‪ ,‬אך כבר בצעירותה הייתה מעורבת בחייהם של אנשים רבים‪.‬‬
‫היא ניחנה בעין חדה וידעה להבחין בטיבם של בני אדם‪ .‬ביתה ולבה היו פתוחים תמיד‬
‫לזולת‪ ,‬והיא חלקה את חוכמתה וניסיון חייה עם כל אחד‪ .‬מחויבות זו לזולת הייתה‬
‫מתכונותיה הבולטות‪.‬‬
‫לאה פתחה את ביתה לנשים מסורבות גט ועגונות ודאגה להן באופן אישי לייצוג‬
‫משפטי ותמיכה‪ .‬לאחר ששמה יצא לפניה כמסייעת לנשים אשר נקלעו למצוקה ללא‬
‫יכולת לקבל גט‪ ,‬החלו לנהור לביתה נשים רבות בבקשת סיוע‪ .‬לאה נדהמה מהיקף‬
‫המצוקה של אותן נשים ומחוסר האונים שלהן‪ ,‬ובעיקר מקשר השתיקה ומחוסר‬
‫המודעות לבעיה‪ .‬היא החליטה לכתוב את סיפורן של הנשים והוציאה ספר בשם ’מבוי‬
‫סתום‘ ‪ -‬לימים שם העמותה שייסדה‪.‬‬
‫מה מייחד את מיזם 'חותמים ומתחתנים'?‬
‫במסגרת זו נפרשים בפני בני הזוג ההסכמים השונים ולאחר היכרות אישית אנו‬
‫מסייעים להם לבחור ולערוך את ההסכם המתאים להם ביותר‪.‬‬
‫בכל מקרה אנו ממליצים לבני הזוג להוסיף בהסכם שיבחרו סעיף הקובע שבמקרה‬

What is a pre-nuptial agreement?
It is an agreement signed by a couple, usually before marriage, to address the

What service does the organization provide?
We arrange for the couple to meet with an attorney who will explain, offer
advice and draw up an agreement between them. The agreement must then
be authorized by a notary public or submitted to the marriage registrar of
the religious council. Authorization of a post-nuptial agreement must be done
in family court.
What is unique about this service?
It provides comprehensive information about the nature of a pre-nuptial
agreement, a clear explanation of the various kinds of agreements that exist,
and then helps the couple choose the one most suitable to them.
We recommend that couples include in their agreement a clause
that stipulates mediation as the means by which they will navigate
the distribution of their assets and that the mediation take place
in a private beit din. We also enable the couple to stipulate in the
agreement that in case of divorce they will turn to a private beit din
to arrange the divorce itself.
