Educational sciences create concepts that serve as tools and framework for modelling educational systems and their subsystems. They create concepts defining the most general framework for public debates concerning the development of educational systems. In a more distant past educationists in Slovenia and Poland had been strongly influenced by German tradition in pedagogy, whereas in the second half of the twentieth century they were constrained by the major ideas of marxist pedagogy. In the last two decades educational sciences in both countries went through a process of emancipation; nevertheless they are still receiving influences, especially from Western Europe. Both teams, the Slovenian and Polish one, will study not only the history of educational concepts but also the conceptual framework within which both countries are trying to comply with the common educational standards set by the European Union.
