‫פרס האמן הצעיר‪ ,‬פרס עידוד היצירה‪ ,‬פרס העיצוב‪ ,‬ופרס שרת התרבות והספורט‬
‫לאמנות פלסטית‪ .‬זוהי הבעת אמון ביכולתם ובאיכות יצירתם של האמנים היוצרים‪,‬‬
‫שמפרים ומעשירים את חיינו ביצירתם המקורית על כל גוניה ומציגים יריעה תוססת‪,‬‬
‫איכותית ועשירה בהעזה ובדרכי הבעה חדשות ורבות צבעים‪.‬‬

‫מוזיאון תל אביב לאמנות מברך על הזכות שנפלה בחלקו לארח השנה בין כתליו‬
‫את תצוגת הזוכים בשלל פרסי משרד התרבות והספורט לאמנות ועיצוב לשנת‬
‫‪ ,2014‬בתערוכה והזוכים הם‪ .‬כמוסד שאחת ממטרותיו המרכזיות היא חשיפת‬
‫מיטב היוצרים הפועלים כיום והפניית זרקור למגמות של אמנות עכשווית‪ ,‬יש‬
‫בתערוכה זו ‪ -‬המציגה בכפיפה אחת ‪ 36‬אמנים ומעצבים מתחומי עשייה שונים‪,‬‬
‫מהוותיקים שבהם ועד לצעירים בראשית דרכם ‪ -‬הזדמנות פז ליצור חיבורים בלתי‬
‫שגרתיים ומאירי עיניים ולרקום דיאלוג מפרה בין האמנות החזותית לבין תחומי‬
‫העיצוב השונים‪.‬‬
‫בראש ובראשונה ברצוני לשלוח ברכות חמות ליוצרים הזוכים‪ ,‬ולאחל לכל אחת‬
‫ואחד מהם המשך יצירה פורייה בעתיד‪ .‬תודה מקרב לב שלוחה כמובן ללימור לבנת‪,‬‬
‫שרת התרבות והספורט‪ ,‬על קיומו של מפעל חשוב זה לאורך השנים‪ .‬תודה גם לכל‬
‫החברים בוועדות השיפוט בתחומים השונים‪ ,‬וכן לאוצרות התערוכה ‪ -‬מאיה ויניצקי‬

‫שאול (טולי) באומן (נ‪ )1933 .‬שייך לקבוצה קטנה מאוד‪ ,‬קטנה מדי‪ ,‬של אנשים‬
‫שעשייתם העקבית‪ ,‬העיקשת והעקרונית מסמנת ומפלסת דרכים חדשות בעולם‬
‫האמנות הישראלי‪ .‬בכוח אישיותו המיוחדת‪ ,‬היזמּות למען הכלל והחזון התרבותי–‬
‫חברתי מרחיק הלכת שלו הצליח באומן‪ ,‬חבר קיבוץ עמיר‪ ,‬לרתום את התנועה‬
‫הקיבוצית למפעלי יצירה שהותירו חותם עמוק על התרבות בישראל‪ .‬יחד עם אשתו‬
‫אילנה ייסד באומן וניהל לאורך שנים את כתב העת החשוב סטודיו‪ ,‬שהיה במשך שני‬
‫עשורים חוד החנית של שיח האמנות בארץ ‪ -‬כתב–עת שטיפח את מיטב העורכים‪,‬‬
‫הכותבים‪ ,‬המבקרים והפרשנים‪ ,‬העשיר את מדף האמנות בתרגומים של טקסטים‬
‫חשובים‪ ,‬ועדכן את קהילת התרבות בנעשה בארץ ובעולם‪ .‬בזכות באומן צלח סטודיו‬
‫תקופות לא קלות והיה למוסד שמציב את ה”כאן” של העשייה המקומית במסגרת‬
‫ה”עכשיו” של העשייה הבינלאומית‪.‬‬
‫בשנות ה–‪ 80‬למאה ה–‪ 20‬יזם באומן גם את “מפגשים בינלאומיים לאמנות עכשווית”‬
‫בתל–חי‪ ,‬פרויקט רב–שנתי‪ ,‬שכינס אליו את מיטב האמנים והאוצרים מהארץ‬
‫ומהעולם והציף סוגיות הנוגעות לסבך הקשרים בין אמנות למרחב‪ ,‬מקום וסביבה‪,‬‬
‫מתוך קשב לצורך בפעילות מסוג זה גם בפריפריה הרחוקה‪ .‬כמו כן היה באומן פעיל‬
‫במפגשי אמנות בין יוצרים ישראלים ופלסטינים ובפרויקטים שחיברו בין מוזיקה‬
‫לאמנות פלסטית‪.‬‬
‫באומן הוא קודם כל אמן‪ ,‬שחידש בייחוד בתחום ההדפס (בחומריו השונים‪ ,‬ובראשם‬
‫האבן)‪ .‬פיסול החוצות שלו לאורך טיילת הירדן ובכמה אתרים נוספים הוא מופת של‬
‫מחויבות לנוף‪ ,‬וניכר שאת עבודותיו הגרפיות (ולאמיתו של דבר‪ ,‬את כלל עשייתו‬
‫האמנותית) הנחתה אמונה רעיונית ואידיאולוגית בקשב לחומר ולמדיום‪.‬‬
‫זהו “פרס למפעל חיים”‪ ,‬וקשה לחשוב על אדם שהגדרה עוטפת זו הולמת אותו‬
‫יותר‪ .‬באומן‪ ,‬מהיוצרים האהובים בעולם האמנות הישראלי‪ ,‬חצה את שנתו השמונים‬
‫ואנו מאחלים לו שנות עשייה רבות נוספות‪ .‬אשרי החברה שאנשים כבאומן הם‬
‫ממפלסי דרכה‪ .‬זכות גדולה היא לנו להעניק לו את פרס שרת התרבות למפעל חיים‬
‫בתחום האמנות הפלסטית לשנת ‪.2014‬‬

Shaul (Tully) Bauman (b. 1933) belongs to a very small, too small, group
of individuals whose consistent, persistent, and principled practice has
outlined and paved new ways in the Israeli art world. By virtue of his
unique personality, his initiative for the benefit of the public, and his farreaching social-cultural vision, Bauman, a member of Kibbutz Amir, has
succeeded in harnessing the kibbutz movement to creative endeavors
which have left a profound impact on Israeli culture. Together with his
wife, Ilana, Bauman founded Studio art magazine and was a member
of its editorial board for many years. Studio was the cutting edge of
the local artistic discourse for two decades, fostering the best editors,
writers, critics, and commentators. It enriched the Hebrew art shelf with
translations of key texts, and updated the cultural community with the
goings-on in Israel and the world. Thanks to Bauman, Studio survived
challenging times. It became an institution which placed the “here” of
local art within the “now” of international praxis.
In the 1980s, Bauman also initiated the perennial project “International
Contemporary Art Meetings” in Tel Hai, which brought together prime
local and international artists and curators, and addressed questions
pertaining to art’s tangled interrelations with space, place, and setting,
with attention to the need in such an activity also in outlying peripheral
areas. In addition to all these, Bauman was also active in art meetings
between Israeli and Palestinian artists, and in projects connecting music
and visual art.
Bauman is first and foremost an artist who has introduced innovations
mainly in the field of printmaking (using diverse materials, primarily
stone). His outdoor sculptures along the Jordan River Promenade
and several other sites are a paragon of commitment to the landscape,
and his graphic works (like his entire oeuvre) are clearly guided by an
ideological, conceptual belief in attention to material and medium.
This prize is awarded for a life’s work, and it is hard to conceive of a
person who fits this definition more than Bauman. One of the most
beloved artists in the Israeli art world, Bauman crossed his 80th year and
we wish to extend our congratulations for many more years of practice.
Blessed is the society whose trailblazers are people like Bauman. It is a
great honor to confer the Minister of Culture Prize for a Life’s Work in
the Visual Arts, 2014 on him.
Foreword
Tel Aviv Museum of Art feels privileged to host the winners of the
Ministry of Culture and Sport Prizes in Art and Design, 2014, whose
works are featured in the exhibition “And the Winners Are:” As an
institution whose major goals include exposure of the topmost artists
working today and turning the spotlight on trends in contemporary art,
the exhibition—which features 36 artists and designers from diverse
fields, from old-timers to nascent ones—is a golden opportunity to
create unusual enlightening connections and start a fruitful dialogue
between visual art and the various fields of design.
First and foremost, I would like to congratulate the winning artists and
wish each one continued fruitful work in the future. Heartfelt thanks
to Limor Livnat, the Minister of Culture and Sport, for sustaining
this important enterprise over the years. Thanks to all the jurors in
the various fields; to the exhibition curators—Maya Vinitsky of the
Department of Architecture and Design, and Noa Rosenberg of the
Department of Israeli Art; and to all the members of the museum staff
who were involved in the implementation of the exhibition.

I am honored to congratulate the 36 recipients of the prizes awarded by
the Ministry of Culture and Sport in the fields of visual art and design:
Prize for a Life’s Work; Young Artist Award; Creativity Encouragement
Award; Design Award; and the Minister of Culture and Sport’s Visual
Art Award. It is an expression of confidence in the artists’ abilities and
the quality of their diverse original work which enhances our lives,
offering a vibrant, impressive, daring, and colorful fabric, rich in new
expressive modes.
The bestowal of prizes is yet another layer in our activity to encourage
artists to continue creating and contributing to the advancement of
original art. It is intended to support talents, both those taking their first
steps and the more experienced artists. In no way is the prize a license
to rest on one’s laurels; rather, it is an incentive to keep advancing in the
stormy and demanding whirlpool of artistic practice in Israel.
I would like to extend my gratitude to the Tel Aviv Museum of Art,
which hosts this year’s winners’ exhibition, and to its director and
chief curator, Suzanne Landau. Special thanks go to all the members
of the museum staff who were involved in the implementation of the
exhibition and the production of the accompanying catalogue.
I wish the winning artists a future path rife with success and continued
fascinating, fruitful work, and all the show’s visitors—a pleasurable,
exciting experience.
