Conference Objectives:
•Review pathology of select gliomas and discuss particular genetic alterations and their relevance to clinical
practice.
•Review updates on adjuvant treatment of brain tumor after resection, the various chemotherapy regimens
for recurrent and/or unresectable brain tumors, and new drugs in development for brain tumors.
•Review and discuss impairments due to tumor effects and cancer treatment, and approaches to rehabilitation
of the neuro-oncologic patient.
•Review most common signs and symptoms in primary brain tumors and common complications of radiation
and chemotherapy and discuss antiepileptic medications and dosing and dexamethasone dosing for
increased intracranial pressure and edema.
•Review treatment options for a case of recurrent glioblastoma multiforme, management options for a case
of newly diagnosed Grade III oligodendroglioma, and management options for a case of newly diagnosed
Grade II astrocytoma.
•Update physicians on the diagnosis and management of brain metastases, how systemic cancers can spread
to the leptomeninges, and primary CNS lymphoma.
•Review different surgical approaches and goals of surgery for brain tumors, resection of brain and spinal
cord tumors and possible complications, and surgical options for brain metastases from systemic cancer
(such as breast cancer).
•Review and discuss radiation treatment for glioblastoma multiforme and brain metastases.
