The President’s Message
Our October lunch has come and gone, and let me tell you I
couldn’t be more proud of this chapter! We “got” Jan! If you
weren’t there or didn’t know, our own fearless leader celebrated
20 years with Kansas City NARI officially on October 1st.
We surprised her at the September lunch with a huge card, a
video presentation from other chapter executives and NARI
National, and an incredible gift card of donations from all of
you! She was on to us a little, but didn’t know exactly what
was going on. Just before we unveiled the surprise Jan had to
come up and report on some chapter business. I purposely
kept her to the last spot, and she grabbed my arm with cold
sweaty hands and said “I don’t have control”. It was great!
What an amazing gift we have in Jan, and I hope that you all
get the chance to thank her in person in the coming weeks.
This letter will come out after our community service project
wraps up, and I anticipate that will be a great event as well.
Kansas City NARI members have donated 30 bunk beds and
60 sets of bed sheets to Cornerstones of Care. These items
will undoubtedly help many foster families and the kids they
serve throughout the KC metro area.
I hope that I get to see you at some of our October events!
See you soon,
Jerry Hillard, President
Kansas City NARI

Jabber from Jan…A Quick
Note from Jan Burchett
Just a quick note to say a big THANK YOU for my 20-year
recognition. What a wonderful day on September 25 that was
full of surprises. The huge card was fabulous, the video from
other chapter exes and NARI National was humbling and the
gift cards…well, I think I am going to Disney World now!
I just wanted to give everyone a quick rundown of the 20 years
so you can see KC NARI’s history.
I started as chapter exec on October 1, 1994 with a company
called Expositions, owned by Mary Jo Doherty. She owned the
Remodeling & Decorating Expo, the consumer show for home
remodeling. She sold the business in 1997 and I opened up Jan
Burchett Management LLC out of my home and Kansas City
NARI was my 1st client. As Kansas City NARI grew, an office
was rented on Merriam Drive in 2004 and I officially became a
salaried employee in 2007.
It’s been a great ride for 20 years and I plan to celebrate more
years with KC NARI. Without each and every member,
especially those who are active and who serve in leadership
and/or committee positions, KC NARI would not be the
great, strong organization it is. By the way, I looked at the
1995 Consumer Remodeling Guide as that was the first one
published after I began in October 1994. There were 72
members and 21 of those listed are still members today. We
currently have 282 members. Thanks for your support of
NARI and the only trade association exclusively dedicated to
the professional remodeling industry.

REMY Entries Will Now Be
Online…No More Binders!
As you may know, NARI National launched the CotY Awards
program online last year. The process was well received by
the entrants across the country and a survey of those who
participated said the new online process saved them time and
money and was easy to navigate and understand.
NARI National and OMNI Solutions Group are now offering
chapters access to the online awards process. The chapter
awards program, known as the REMY for Kansas City
NARI entries, will be customized for our chapter’s typical
awards program. There are a few changes including no longer
requiring the homeowner to fill out a survey worth 15 points.
The entries will still be judged by members of another NARI
chapter, but that will be done online as well…no more shipping
binders across the country!
pricing of $165 per entry, the project must be completed,
paid, and submitted by the end of the day on October 17.
• The standard price per entry is $175 and that deadline
is November 3, 2014. To take advantage of the standard
pricing of $175 per entry, the project must be completed,
paid, and submitted by the end of the day on November 3.
• This year the REMY awards will also have a late entry
option (without penalty) for an additional $20 ($195 per
entry) if the project is completed, paid, and submitted
by the end of the day on November 10, 2014. If you are
running out of time, this may be a good option for you.
Ready to check out REMY? Click here to find out more about
the REMY online awards contest www.REMYKC.com
The REMY awards this year will have three price points: an
early bird entry fee, a standard entry fee and a late entry fee as
noted below:
• Early bird price per entry is $165 and that deadline is
October 17, 2014. To take advantage of the early bird
