PURPOSE
2014 MEDICAL PSYCHIATRY
NURSING CONFERENCE
This conference is designed to provide information
and discussion of current trends in the care of
patients with dual medical and psychiatric
diagnosis.

OBJECTIVES
1. Examine the functions served by nonsuicidal self-injury.
2. Discuss the implementation of DSM-5
into practice.
3. Describe the relationship between
mental illness and parenthood – how
parenting affects mental health and the
impact mental illness has on parenting
and on the children of parents with
mental illness.
4. Identify common types of traumatic
brain injuries, associated care, and
discuss cases that demonstrate advances
in the care for these patients.
5. Discuss gender diversity and the
healthcare needs of gender nonconforming patient and describe how to
create a safe and inclusive healthcare
space for gender diverse patients.
6. Examine how diet and lifestyle can be
used to improve mental health outcomes.
