THE CATHOLIC COMMUNITY OF PLEASANTON
OUR MISSION: “To know Christ better, live as He calls us to live, and make Him better known”.
From the Pastor….
My brothers and sisters,
As we prepare to actually launch the new Capital
Campaign in the first quarter of 2015, I thank you
for the overwhelming support I received after the
marathon of preaching last weekend and the Town
Hall Meetings that “unpacked” the numbers for the
Campaign. In my estimation, we are gradually
realizing what lies before us as a community of
faith. I felt a wonderful swell of support and
appreciation. It’s never easy, but I would rather
you know what it is than be surprised by it. And
for some, this is a big pill to swallow. I can
appreciate that too. What is most important … we
start to look squarely at “The Father’s House” to
prepare ourselves prayerfully to fully engage in the
Campaign. We need to care for His house because
it is our house! We are the care providers, the
stewards. It is also important to know that you will
not be hearing about this over and over for the next
six months. For now, I felt it imperative to provide
transparency and candor on the “House”.
There are many people behind-the-scenes who gave
of their time and talent to make this past week
work. I am especially grateful to the pastoral and
finance councils for the sharp and thought-filled
advice to me on the proper route to take on the
Campaign. What is gratifying to me, is the
unanimity of heart and mind in voice that came
from the Council Members. I’m very much

reminded of the psalmist who wrote: “Behold, how
good and pleasant it is when God’s People dwell in
unity (Ps 133:1)”. This type of supportive
communion is essential. Most gratifying for me is
the labor of the council members. They wrestled
with the decisions to go forward as we are. That type
of honest conversation and decision-making make
the horizon before us all the more clear. It does not
mean it will be easy, but we know this is the pathway
to take…
In addition, I want to take this opportunity to thank
the Knights of Columbus for sponsoring two
cookouts for those attending town hall meetings.
Paulette Callahan and her team provided
refreshments as well. We can attest to the fact that
meetings are merely occasions for food and drink –
the perfect excuse. As we go forward, we will have
regular updates in the bulletin with information that
will help us prepare to launch in 2015.
Next on the horizon, we will prepare for parish-wide
discernment of the new pastoral council. We will
present to the parish the ministry position of the new
council members, new by-laws that will govern the
pastoral council, and the discernment process itself.
We want these tools in your hands before the
members of the parish begin to prayerfully forward
names of persons who will best represent the parishat-large, and not a constituency. To determine
council membership by representation opens
Pandora’s box. Thus, it is best to look at those who
have a wide view of the parish at large or even a new
and fresh view. That person, in fact, might be you!!!
These tools that I mentioned will be coming in a few
weeks. We have had a busy Fall and it will continue
to get busier. For me, the energy and the buzz
around CCOP gives me energy as well.
Let’s continue to pray for one another during the
month of October as we respect life in all forms.
With great gratitude for all your support,
Fr. Paul
