The Crosby-Ironton varsity
volleyball team defeated
Pillager last Tuesday, 3-0.
The Rangers came out with
a 25-15 win in the first set and
took a hard-fought second set,
26-24. C-I won the third and
deciding set, 27-25.
Hallie Schmidt tallied 11
kills to lead the Rangers while
Sofie Della Pace added 10 kills
and 10 digs. Mariah Melenich
also tallied 10 digs while Jami
Nelson finished with 23 set
assists and eight digs.

‘Saving Hearts’ 5K
run/walk Oct. 25
The first ‘Saving Hearts’
5K or one mile Suicide
Prevention Run/Walk will be
held Saturday, Oct. 25 beginning at 9 a.m. at the Hallett
Center of Crosby.
This event has been created in memory of Shane Heyn
who ended his own pain on a
cold night in December of
2012 at the age of 35. Some,
if not all of us, have been
affected by suicide in some
way. Our family was directly
affected and want to help prevent this from happening to
more people. This has been
something that our family has
carried with us every day
since then. We want to help
people who are struggling
emotionally and mentally and
try to prevent suicide from
happening. Even if we reach
one person, help save one life,
that will be an accomplishment.
You never really understand the affects of suicide
until it directly affects you in
some way. For us, it is a day
that we will never forget. A
day that our eyes were opened
to how short life is. A day that
we realized a person who we
loved deeply was hurting so
much and we had no idea
about that hurt. And now the
day has come that we decided
it was time for something to
change, for those who are
secretly hurting to get the
help they need.
We are raising money for
an organization called NAMI,
which is the National
Alliance on Mental Illness,
the nation’s largest non-profit
grassroots mental health
organization dedicated to
building better lives for the
millions of Americans affected by mental illness. NAMI
advocates for access to services, treatment, support and
research. NAMI is steadfast in
its commitment to raising
awareness and building a
community for hope for all
those in need exists to help
people who are contemplating
suicide and/or dealing with
mental illness.
We would love any support, prayers, donations and
help that you would like to
provide. This will be the first
5K of many for us to raise
money to help people who are
hurting. If you would like
more information and registration forms please contact
Ann Raph at 838-6109. This
run will include a t-shirt, door
prizes, food and beverages.

Moose River trails in Cass
County. Join the group for lunch
and a nice scenic forest ride.

still tops
The Mercury are the lone
unbeaten team in the C-I fifth
and sixth grade girls’ basketball league and still remain
alone atop the standings.
The Mercury defeated the
Shock, 27-25 and the Lynx
stopped the Storm, 30-19.
Karli Nixon tallied 22
points to lead the Mercury,
while McKenzie McLean
scored four points and
Anastasia Franzen added one
point. Natalja Tauzell paced
the Shock with nine points and
Jacey Rydberg added eight.
Kalli Stockard scored six
points and Madlyn Bodle
scored two.
Lilly Peterson scored 12

season. Picnic tables, grills and
portable restroom will be added
to the trail area in the future. The
trail area is located between the
cities of Trommald and Riverton
off of Iverson road.
The club offers memberships
to anyone interested in trail riding
and exploring nature. ATV riding
is a fun way to meet people and
explore Minnesota’s great outdoors. Membership forms are

unbeaten
The Mystics remained
unbeatend and on top of the the
C-I third and fourth grade girls’
basketball league standings.
The Mystics won a 16-9 battle with the previously unbeaten
Liberty last Wednesday while
the Comets took care of the
Sparks, 15-10.
Josie Schaefer paced he

Temporary off-highway vehicle
trail closures begin in November
The Minnesota Department
of Natural Resources will restrict
recreational use of off-highway
vehicles (OHVs) in some areas
during the upcoming firearms
deer hunting season. Vehicles
affected by the restrictions include
all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), offhighway motorcycles (OHMs)
and registered off-road vehicles
(ORVs) such as four-wheel drive
trucks that are not being used in
conjunction with deer hunting by
a licensed deer hunter.
The restrictions, which apply
to state forest trails and access
routes but not to state forest roads,
aim to protect recreational riders
from potentially unsafe riding
conditions and to minimize conflicts between deer hunters and
recreational riders who may inadvertently disturb them.
Licensed deer hunters may
still use these routes in conjunction with their hunting activity:
• Before legal shooting time.
• From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• After legal shooting hours.
Effective dates of the recreational riding restrictions will be:
• Nov. 8 to 23 for the northeastern Minnesota 100 Series deer
season.
• Nov. 8 to 16 for the
Minnesota 200 Series deer season.
Because recreational OHV
trails located in southeastern
Minnesota close Nov. 1 each year,
no additional OHV riding restrictions are necessary in that part of
the state.
While many recreational
OHV riders have voluntarily
opted not to ride forest trails during
deer hunting and small-game seasons, recreational OHV riding has
become a year-round sport for
many. DNR officials remind
everyone who visits Minnesota’s
state forests this fall to put safety
first.
