9 BEAR AT LAST - BEST BET
4 ENTWISTLE
7 THEFORGOTTENONE
1 DZALA
DZALA had a more thorough performance at seven furlongs
two stats ago than he did when sent around two turns
last outing; he stalled in that most recent try when fifth while
Bear At Last was second and Entwistle was third; he worked
smartly October 5th in 1.01.1 out in 1.15.1.
LION OF JUDAH was a distant but willing fourth around two
turns September 20th when Bear At Last was second; he
meets several here from that last event.
TAKEITDOWNTHEROAD debuted September 20th at a
route but was disadvantaged; he did well to stay with the
early pace but then he gave up positions late; he has come
back to work quickly in 1.01.
ENTWISTLE has been in the money in all three races and
has indicated an ability to run on each time; he used a new
technique last time running from much farther off the pace
and he advanced to be about three lengths behind the runner
up, Bear At Last.
ARAZ was in against some of these last time and was only
eighth in a field of eleven while Bear At Last was better in
second.
REBEL MUSIC debuted early in the summer time but
lacked any prominence in a race dominated by well
positioned runners; he comes off the shelf and now goes
for Roy R. Jones and competes as a gelding; he worked
October 5th in 1.01.2 getting ready.
THEFORGOTTENONE should have some stamina; he
debuted September 20th and that introduction should serve
him well; he should have more to say in the stretch run in
this second start.
ARCTIC KID posted a fast work October 5th; this will be his
first run since the beginning of September and now he
stretches out and moves up in value.
BEAR AT LAST was sent long September 20th and had a
peak performance in second; he had every chance to win that
race but seemed to hang while the front runner clung to the
advantage; he worked recently in 59.4 for Bear Stables.
RACE #2
BANNON
4 KITTEN CANDY
5 MASSIVE EXPLOSION
3 ANGRY MOON
2 OCCASIONAL VIEW
REALLY SHARP competed along with some of the other
contenders here in the Bold Venture last time; he was fanned
wide on the turn but was just out of contention at that time
and finally finished eighth with Occasional View in sixth and
Kitten Candy in seventh; he came back to work quickly
October 5th in 1.00b.
OCCASIONAL VIEW competed in the Bold Venture Stakes
last time and closed six wide from the second flight and was
unable to gain much momentum on the turn then moved
up gradually in the lane; he had both Kitten Candy and
Really Sharp in behind him; he posted an excellent clocking
October 4th in 46.2; he gains eligibility here through the
claiming qualification.
ANGRY MOON had a nice streak going for himself in July with
consecutive wins first on Poly track and then when moved to turf;
this will be his first start since then and he indicates four works
since the beginning of September getting ready including a quick
work on the training track September 20th in 46.4 for Brian Lynch.
KITTEN CANDY was in the Bold Venture Stakes last time and didn’t
really get running until about a furlong from home and was down on
the inside and that proved to be an unrewarding journey; he did win
the time before at six furlongs in a second allowance classification.
MASSIVE EXPLOSION will supply speed today; he was in a second
allowance classification race at seven furlongs here August 31st
where he made the pace until quite late; he has since won on the turf
in Indiana going short.
RACE #3
BANNON
1 LOVE TAKES FLIGHT
4 FLAMING KATHERINE
3 BELLE RENCONTRE
8 CHARMING DELILAH
LOVE TAKES FLIGHT a three year old, debuted September 1st for
Sam-Son Farm and attended the pace behind runners then came
on to be second behind a winner who had a thrilling stretch kick;
she has prepped easily in the interim for Malcolm Pierce getting
ready for this second lifetime start.
SIMPLY BELONGING was fourth in a race that came off turf
September 12th when in an upper claiming evaluation; she is a four
year old facing some younger rivals in here and looking to build on
that return trip; she worked recently on turf beating company.
BELLE RENCONTRE a four year old by the popular, Oasis Dream,
is an Irish bred who has competed only in North America; she was
second best at Churchill last time when no threat to the heavy
favourite who won easily; she comes in for Brendan P. Walsh for
owner Frederick J. Seitz who has successfully raided here in the
past.
FLAMING KATHERINE was in a sprint two starts ago where she
was able to rally from off the pace in a key race and run second; the
first and fourth place finishers have come back to win and the fifth
place finisher came back to beat Love Takes Flight; most recently,
she went a route and was too close to an aggressive pace and
understandably hung at the end; she shortens to a sprint here.
PAGEANTRY raced well last time on turf when fourth from the
outside while her stable mate took top prize; she has been
freshened.
LA GRAN EMILY a debut runner for Ravendra Raghunath, is by
Leonnatus Anteas who loved the turf; this one was earlier stabled
at Fort Erie but has been here for a couple of works in company
getting ready.
LONDON CHIMES was on turf two starts ago but was not a factor
then; most recently, her race came off the turf and she was out of
the money.
CHARMING DELILAH debuted on Poly track September 19th and
was second best behind a preferred winner who was debuting; she
will compete only if this event comes off the turf and she would be a
factor in that case.

RACE #4
BANNON
7 MAYTHEFOURTHBWITHU
2 TAMAZULA
5 BEAR’S PEARL
3 AMETHEA
LAST MINUTE LUCY was overwhelmed in a race for
$40,000 October 1st when she joined the pace with a couple
of others but an off the pace winner took it; she encounters
other speed types here.
TAMAZULA was here for a race August 10th and was
competitive; she was a three year old against older rivals and
came from the widest post and moved nicely on the outside
but hung very late in the race; she has since had two races at
home at Arlington and has run similar type events with off the
pace moves only to hang at the most crucial time; she seeks
her initial win of the year; there is plenty of speed to chase
here which should help her late running approach; she is a
one time winner.
AMETHEA was out of the money on turf last time; it was an
unexpected result; she was returning from time away; she
now moves back to poly track, a footing over which she was
second in consecutive events in the spring time.
BEARS GRACE was an Ontario sire winner here at five
furlongs in the spring and added a couple of more victories
in claiming races at Fort Erie in the summer.
BEAR’S PEARL has now won three in a row and has
dominated the middle and late pace; Husbands who is also
the regular rider of Maythefourthbwithu and Amethea, has
opted for the latter and Da Silva takes over here; she is a
seven time winner.
ERMA LEE likes a good pace fight; she is winless for the
year and remains at a protected evaluation here after a
double digit loss last time when she got in against a winner
that was just too difficult on the front end; she was quite
competitive at five furlongs in this category just two starts
ago when second.
MAYTHEFOURTHBWITHU cleaned up in claiming race
last time with a win for $50,000 at five furlongs; she likes to
stalk the pace and there is plenty of identifiable early speed
in this race to target; Moore takes over.
JEAN’S A LADY showed in her latest, she is coming back to
positive form with a third place finish against an improved
winner while on turf; she did run quickly at five furlongs back
in July; she was just getting good at that time.
RACE #5

2 COUNTRYMAN
7 TORMENTA FIERA
3 GRAND MIXTURE
4 CONQUISTA GRANDE
MALTESE KNIGHT checked sharply three furlongs from
home in a route September 26th and was out of contention at
that time and was finally tenth of twelve.
COUNTRYMAN moved from an out of the money finish on
turf to go on Poly track with a drop August 31st and was
second beaten a nose; most recently, he shortened to a
sprint where he drew the difficult inside post and began in
next to last position; it was a counterproductive departure
and he was finally eighth; he tumbles in for $12,500 and gets
back to a route.
GRAND MIXTURE goes for the hot Mike Wright stable; Boulanger
who has been aboard for recent good results is handling
Countryman and hot apprentice Nick Webb will take over here; he
was second last time when going from a sprint to a route.
CONQUISTA GRANDE is one to consider; he was beaten only four
lengths in an Ontario sire route last time where he made a strong
middle move and then was on the edges against a well regarded
top trio; he now runs for $12,500.
LUCKY’S RINGER was not a factor in a recent sprint; this will be
just his second ever route attempt.
ITWILLALLWORKOUT had a significant excuse in the early going
two starts ago; most recently at six furlongs, he wasn’t a factor; he
now goes farther.
TORMENTA FIERA is certainly one to consider given that he has
been out of the money on turf in three consecutive events and now
he plunges for $11,500 to go to Poly track; he has two shares in
four trips on this surface; Wilson is picked for this assignment.
TIGER HALL got aggressive in the middle stages of a route last
time at this price and finally finished third; both the second and
fourth place finishers have come back to win.
SILENT WISH has lost in double digits in both career sprints; he will
now stretch out and the front end figures to be crowded here in the
middle stages.
RACE #6

9 RAISE A GLASS
3 SHIFTY
11 GLADYS’S RING
4 SHOWING TRUE
IRISH GEM had a more prominent result August 29th for $8,000
when on the edges than she did in a protected spot last time where
she earned a higher performance rating; she gets back down to the
level of her previous event.
RAGEING BROOKE went from a sprint to a route last time but
lacked any prominence in the middle stages and was finally outrun.
SHIFTY has competed in three consecutive races at seven furlongs
and has been on the edges each time; running from off the pace
was difficult to do last time but she was third and the runner up
has come back to win; this will be just her second race ever around
two turns.
SHOWING TRUE had a good result going long for $7,500 in this
category two starts ago; most recently, her move came later in the
race but she was also going smartly at the end.
KIMORA KIM was without momentum late at the Fort Erie meeting;
she is a one time winner here but that score came much earlier in
her career.
KITTIHAWA was able to win with the bias in her favour at seven
furlongs two starts ago; most recently, she was unplaced at a
shorter distance; she stretches around two turns here.
MOBIL MILLIE closed a good gap coming from twelfth to be fourth
last time in a route event while Emma’s Love was back in third; she
did have good momentum on the outside in that event.
SURE WOULD had the inside post last time and came away
thirteenth then rushed to the lead but was soon done; she will go
long here.
RAISE A GLASS was a winner at six and a half furlongs for $8,000
two starts ago; most recently, she was moving forward at seven
furlongs but hung in this category; the fifth place finisher came back
to beat Emma’s Love last time; she will experiment with a route
here; she worked recently in 1.00.3.
JIM BANNON’S JOURNAL OCTOBER 11/2014
EILDON HALL was a winner on turf at Fort Erie two starts
ago; she is without a victory here; she will drop for $7,500
and go two turns on Poly track.
GLADYS’S RING was able to win July 20th when plunged
for $12,500 and she produced a perfect rally under
Contreras for Josie Carroll; she now tries non winners of
two following a layoff.
EMMA’S LOVE went from a sprint to a route last time and
maintained her good form with a third place finish; she stayed
on well; once again, Stein has the mount.

race on turf here; she could contend for a share.

MIRACLEONTHIRTIETH was on turf at seven furlongs last

NINJA QUEEN worked October 5th in 1.01.2; she was on turf entered for Robert Tiller; she worked recently in 1.01.3; Boulanger

ZDENKA was on turf two starts ago at a route and closed

FLARING STAR is without a share after two tries on turf;
she was out of the money on Poly track last time.
REBELLIOUS LOVE stretched to a route September 17th
but was going too quickly while up on the pace and
understandably faded; she now moves to turf where a
more patient style is likely.
HURRICANE MIMI added blinkers last time and was
dominant through the stretch for a maiden win in her ninth
lifetime start; she will be introduced here to turf and is a
daughter of Sligo Bay.
SLIGO LILLIE will be seeing turf for the initial time and is a
daughter of Sligo Bay from a Sky Classic mare; she moved
late on the outside on Poly track last time; she seeks her
initial share of this campaign.

CHIEF THUNDERCLOUD has been back to Parx for a
couple of starts and was on the edges last time against a
winner who has since repeated there with a jump in value
while the third place finisher has come back to win there for
$12,500; he is now boosted in value; he had positive form
here in the spring when returning from Parx.
NORTHERN HAMMER has lost in double digits in
consecutive events; he was no match for the runner up,
Touched In Stone last time.
SEETHING ran a strong race September 13th for $20,000 at
seven furlongs; he closed widest and missed narrowly and
kept Lucky Lotto just in behind him.
LUCKY LOTTO was third under these terms two starts ago
while hanging when top prize was within reach; most
recently, the event was kind to closers but he hung finishing
on the edges when Seeley’s Bay was more thorough.
SEELEY’S BAY was perfectly handled by Contreras last time
for Sam Di Pasquale in a race that was set up for a deep
closer; several conflicting speed types battled themselves
into submission; he encounters a group here that seems to
have more middle pace tenacity.
BEAR’S TAURUS has run some good races this season
without winning; he loves the seven furlong distance; he was
fourth beaten three lengths for $32,000; last time; he
indicates a fast recent work and now drops for just $20,000.
MARKED IN STONE is relatively fresh with just three races
this season and his narrow loss for $30,000 last time suggest
he is coming up to a peak effort with this drop for $20,000;
Husbands gives him a vote of confidence.
RUNAWAY PEPPER has two wins in his last three
appearances and has provided a deep closing style in those
victories; he remains at seven furlongs; he departs a starter
event to go for $20,000 with Boulanger now aboard.
PUGSLEY won big with Boulanger aboard September 7th
but he is handling Runaway Pepper here and Olguin will take
over in this spot; he will shorten to a sprint.
UNCATCHABLE FIRE has good stretch skill; he was in a
difficult starter event last time when a close fourth; he gets
an outside post here and he should be running on end.
GLUTEN FREE a debut runner, is a homebred and will go for
Ian Black; he is a son of Niigon who has been exposed to turf
in the morning and he worked quickly on grass October 3rd in
1.00 getting ready.
D’S DOUBLE EAGLE is one of two in here debuting for Ian Black;
he is a homebred by Leonnatus Anteas; he prepped in company
with Gluten Free September 27th in a gate move in 49.2bg getting
ready.
THEBARBEROFBRAZIL was exposed to the turf back on August 1st
when he had a positive runner up finish; he ran well on Poly track
last time with an inside speed trip; he gets the rail again.
THE GREAT GIZMO has been showing run on potential; he was
second last time at six furlongs on Poly track; he will move over to
turf here and extend to seven furlongs and Husbands once again
will be aboard.
MURPHY’S GOT CHARM was bothered significantly in his debut
on turf and that event in no way reflects his potential for the lawn;
most recently in a race that came off turf, he performed poorly
against a key winner.
OSUUSPANKKI was on turf two outings ago and ran well with a
good stride; he finished just in front of the third place finisher,
Gibbons Gambler; he maintained good form with a third on Poly
track last time.
GIBBONS GAMBLER has been a career fringe performer; he was
on turf two outings ago with a solid third place finish just two lengths
behind Osuuspankki; most recently, he was fourth on Poly track
when Osuuspankki was third.
FORTIS developed more early speed last time but didn’t stay in
contention; he gets a quick return on turf.
GAMBOLINO was exposed to the turf early but did not produce;
he has been showing run on ability in Poly track races since then;
he rates some consideration with the return to the grass.
WAR UPRISING debuted September 14th and had a speed
approach on Poly track then faltered; he came back to work quickly
on turf October 3rd in 1.00 for Abraham Katryan.
ABSOLUTE a son of Milwaukee Brew, debuted as an outsider at
seven furlongs September 14th and came in on a couple of rivals
at the break; he got going in the lane and moved willingly on the
outside to be fifth of eleven; he now moves to the lawn.
STAR EAGLE lost in double digits in a Poly track event last time
and had been unplaced in his previous two events on the lawn.
MIGHTY SAMSON was one paced last time but stayed on ok at an
abbreviated distance on Poly track; the runner up has come back
with a smart victory; two starts ago on grass, he was similarly on the
edges when Thebarberofbrazil was better in second.
FRASCATI GOLD was on turf July 26th at a longer distance and
set the pace then weakened; he returns from a freshening and now
goes just seven furlongs on the grass.
LUMBER MAN was on turf two starts ago and was just on the
edges against some of these; he wasn’t as effective on Poly track
last time when used inside.
