Samaritan's Purse Praise & Prayer Requests
Pray for more opportunities for Samaritan's Purse to meet the needs of children
such as water, food and medical care.
Missionary of the Week
Six units affiliated with NAB serve in security sensitive
regions of the world. (A sensitive area is an area of the
world where political, religious, cultural or other situations in a community require extra care to ensure that
neither those involved in ministry nor their work is endangered. Work may take place in-country, in a neighboring region or among a diaspora community.) Pray for wisdom in conversations and relationships, protection in travel, opportunities to share
the message and encouragement in faithful service. Pray for workers who
connect with local university students and also a church plant which
meets every Sunday in the center and regularly in the homes of their
members.

Remembrance Day marks the anniversary of the official end of the
World War I hostilities on November 11, 1918. World War I was a
massive conflict played out over the whole globe, but particularly in
Europe, where troops from Canada supported the Allied forces.
World War I resulted in the loss of huge numbers of lives amongst
both civilians and military personnel. Many more people were badly
injured. The war left great emotional scars in the servicemen, who
had experienced it, and in the communities, whose sons, brothers,
fathers, uncles and even grandfathers had died. Remembrance Day
commemorates those who died in armed conflicts, particularly in and
since World War I.
In Canada, November 11 is officially called Remembrance Day, but it
is also known as Armistice Day and Poppy Day. Remembrance Day is
commemorated in many countries, particularly members of the Commonwealth, including Australia and New Zealand (where it is also referred to as Armistice Day). In the United States, Veterans Day falls on
the same date. In the United Kingdom, the Sunday closest to November 11 is known as Remembrance Sunday.
Remembrance Day is symbolized by the artificial poppies that people
wear and place at war memorials. The use of the poppy as a symbol
of remembrance comes from a poem written by John McCrae, a Canadian doctor serving in the military. The poem is called In Flanders
Fields and describes the poppies growing in the Flemish graveyards
where soldiers were buried.
In Flanders Fields
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
- John McCrae
Letters from War
She walked to the mailbox
On that bright summers day
Found a letter from her son
In a war far away
He spoke of the weather
And good friends that he'd made
Said I'd been thinking 'bout dad
And the life that he had
Thats why I'm here today
And that the end he said
You are what I'm fighting for
It was the first of the letters from war
She started writing
You're good and you're brave
What a father that you'll be someday
make it home
make it safe
She wrote every night as she prayed
Late in December
A day she'll not forget
Oh her tears stained the paper
With every word that she read
It said "I was up on a hill
I was out there alone
When the shots all rang out
And bombs were exploding
And that's when I saw him
He came back for me
And though he was captured
A man set me free
And that man was your son
He asked me to write to you
I told him i would, oh I swore"
It was the last of the letters from war
And she prayed he was living
Kept on believing
And wrote every night just to say
You are good
And you're brave
what a father that you'll be someday
Make it home
Make it safe
Still she kept writing each day
Then two years later
Autumn leaves all around
A car pulled in the driveway
And she fell to the ground
And out stepped a captain
Where her boy used to stand
He said "mom I'm following orders
From all of your letters
And I've come home again",
He ran into hold her
And dropped all his bags on the floor
Holding all of her letters from war
Bring him home
Bring him home
Bring him home

There are several vacancies in many of our Volunteer Groups here at
Hillview, if you are interested or have gifts in any of the following areas
please contact Deb Hoover at the church office. Training will be provided
for ALL positions.
Social Committee — our current Social Committee would like to start
training some new people in this area to help spread out the workload
and to eventually take over the Committee in the future. If you are gifted
in the area of hospitality this is your niche at Hillview.
Tellers — I would love to put together another team of people who count

within a year. You will know your schedule for the entire year of 2013. I
am also looking for 1 or 2 extra people to be backup just in case someone
is away or sick, this would mean you’d only be on occasionally.
