28th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Dear Sisters & Brothers,
The St. Pius X Flag, Junior Varsity & Varsity Football teams will be in attendance and prayer at the
5:15 Mass today. I thank all the adult leaders in all the aspects of CYO for your time, energy, faith and talent
that you extend to our “young parishioners”.
Next Sunday, October 19th, is World Mission Sunday. Pope Francis begins his message for this
year’s celebration of World Mission Sunday with these words: “Today vast members of people still do not
know Jesus Christ”. This World Mission Sunday we focus on the words from St. Matthew’s Gospel, ‘I will
Build My Church’. We help build the church and get people to know Jesus Christ with our prayers and
financial sacrifices. Next’s weeks second collection will be for World Mission Sunday, the Propagation of the
Faith.
“All are welcome! All are welcome! All are welcome in this place!” These words are part of a hymn that
is often sung in our church.
Next Saturday and Sunday, October 18th & 19th will be the beginning of special days of prayer and
reflection. Next weekend we will begin our Parish Retreat. All are welcome. Invite someone to join you. All
are welcome in this place. The place is our church.
Father Domenic Rossi, a Norbertine Father, will be the director of our four days of retreat. Father Rossi is a member of Daylesford Abbey in Paoli. He is founder of Bethesda Project, a ministry to the
homeless in Philadelphia. He is presently pastor of St. Gabriel Parish in South Philadelphia.
Services will be on Monday/Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, October 20/21 and 22 at 7PM in our
church. Again, all are welcome. Plan to attend.
Also, on Thursday, October 23rd the Mass Intention Book for 2015 will be opened. The procedure
and details for this has been in the bulletin for the past 5 weeks.
Also, on Sunday, October 26th, our parish grade school will welcome the Middle States Association.
The team from Middle States will be here for our accreditation by this commission on elementary schools.
Much work and planning goes into these four days of visits and examinations. Please keep this upcoming
visit in your prayers.
The Archdiocese invites everyone to come explore the beauty of Catholic faith, to re-discover the joy
of knowing Jesus Christ and to respond to Christ’s call to make disciples of all nations. The Catholic Life
Congress will be held on Saturday, November 1st at the Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown Hotel, 201 N. 17th
Street, Phila., PA 19103 from 9am to 4pm. One elective or annual update credit for catechetical certification
will be granted to catechists and school teachers who attend. Info at www.PhillyCongress.org.
A very important announcement about the upcoming bereavement meetings, beginning on
Wednesday, October 29th, can be found in this bulletin. All are welcome.
Don’t forget next Saturday night, October 18th, we are having a Night at the Races & Casino
beginning at 7pm in our Auditorium.
God bless you!

2015 Mass Book
The 2015 Announced Mass Intentions Book will be opened on Thursday, October 23rd, 2014 at 9:00AM in the Dowd
Center. I, along with a number of helpers, will begin this process at 9:00AM.
The procedure will be:
You will come into the Dowd Center and receive a number and have a seat and wait until your number is called. I am asking you to
enter the Dowd Center from the parking lot side of the Church. The doors will be opened before 9AM.
When your number is called you will then come to a table where I will be with envelopes marked with the date and time of each
available Mass. You will tell me your dates and if it is available, you will receive the envelope with the month, day, and time already
on it.
You will then go to another table and fill in the name for whom you wish this mass and at whose request. There will be helpers to
help you with this. When your envelopes are properly filled in you will turn them into a helper, along with a $10.00 Stipend for each
mass.
Each person will be permitted 8 Masses: Two for a weekend (Saturday evening or Sunday)
Six for any other days at 6;30 or 8:00

- Day after Thanksgiving, November 27, 2015
- Week after Christmas, December 28, 29, 30, 31, 2015

days were taken, the parish office can arrange for unannounced Masses for deceased. I have priests at our Villa in Darby or

St. Pius X ADULT CHOIR
Sing to the Lord a new song;
Sing to the Lord, all the earth.
Sing to the Lord, praise his name!
Could the psalm be any clearer? There
can be no doubt that we are all called to
sing the Lord’s praises, whether in our
pew singing congregational hymns and psalms, or in the choir
loft singing specially prepared music which praises His name in
a very intense way.
Our choir season has begun for this liturgical year, but it is not
at all too late to add your voice to that of the faithful members of
our SPX adult choir. We would really love to have you join us!
Choir rehearses every Thursday evening from 7:00 until about
8:30 and sings each week at either the Saturday vigil, or the
9:30, or the 11:30 Sunday Masses as well as at special festive
liturgies throughout the year. We are in special need of MEN’S
voice. You need not be able to read music to join, just to be
able to match pitches. You don’t even need to be to be able to
be at every rehearsal and every Mass we sing...we practice
each piece many times so that all will be comfortably familiar
before we perform it.
Please give serious thought to adding your voice to ours,
especially if you have had some experience singing in school,
or church, or even in a well-tuned shower stall.
If you would like further information, please call Bob Jones at
610-357-0047, or email at [email protected] or just
climb the stairs at the rear of the church up to the choir loft any
Thursday night. We’ll be looking for you!
