Sumas Elementary Newsletter OCTOBER 2014 FROM THE CAFETERIA: Meal applications are now due! Please fill out and return the meal application for the 2014-2015 school year as soon as possible. You must complete a new application each school year, or the students will be required to pay full price for their meals until a new application is returned and approved. Additional applications are available in the office. FROM THE COUNSELOR: This month in Character Ed we have been studying rules and responsibility. This has been a great time for us to review the four school rules and why we have rules both in and outside of school. One of the four school rules is "be responsible." We spent time learning more about what the word responsible means and how we can act responsibly. If you have any questions about what we covered this month or would like to learn more about Character Ed, please feel free to contact me. Jean Klein, Sumas Elementary Counselor VOLUNTEER INFORMATION: We appreciate our volunteers and recognize that each of you make an important contribution to our school! Please remember that all volunteers must fill out an application every two years and we will need to make a copy of your driver’s license to accompany the application. PTO FUNDRAISER: Our fall fundraiser will kick off on October 2nd and run through October 14th. We will be offering Dee’s butterbraids and pastry puffins, and Java Joe’s coffee. Tentative pick-up date is November 14th. Look for information coming home with your student. ASB CARDS: Elementary ASB cards are available to purchase in the office for students in grades K-5. Cost is $11.00 and will allow the student entry into every home Nooksack athletic event excluding tournaments and playoff games. If paying by check, ASB purchases must be on a separate check than payments to your student’s lunch account. For more information please contact the office @988-9423. The PTO/PTAs of Nooksack, Sumas, and Everson Elementaries are sponsoring combined parties at Lynden Skateway this year. Come with your friends and meet new friends from the other elementary schools. Admission is $4.50 per person including skate rental. (Roller blades are an additional $2.00) Please remember your child must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. BUS CHANGE NOTES - “PINK SLIPS”: We have sent home with your child a packet of “Student Change/Bus Change Notice” slips. These are to be used if your child needs to be dismissed early from school or will be going home a different way than usual. Please fill out both sides of the notice and send it to school with your child. One side will be kept in the office for our records and the other will be given to the student to give to the bus driver. Only those students with bus change notices will be allowed to ride home a different way. STUDENT MEDICATIONS - Please remember that any medication that needs to be taken at school must be administered through the office and have written permission by both the parent and physician. This rule applies to both non-prescription and prescription medications. An adult must bring the medication to school. Please do not send them with students.
