Walk with CROP to Overcome Hunger
This Sunday, October 19
We celebrate that Highland has far exceeded our goal of 65
walkers! Thank you for your generosity in helping our neighbors in need. More walkers are still welcome! All walkers are
welcome to join in the Fellowship Hall for a light lunch at
12:30 p.m. Team Highland will gather at 2:00 p.m. at the water
fountain on the upper level of Corpening Plaza for a photo
and to begin our walk together.
CROP Hunger Walk donations are shared with 75% going to Church World Service, one
of the most effective and efficient international service agencies in the world, and 25%
going to Crisis Control Ministry and Sunnyside Ministry to support their hunger alleviation programs in Forsyth County. Thank you for your support.
Reformation Sunday October 26
Wear Your Plaid!
Make plans now to attend our Reformation Celebration on Sunday, October 26. We will start with worship and continue afterward in the Fellowship Hall. Music, games, activities for kids and a lite lunch will all
be a part of this special day. Come and learn a little more about our
roots as Presbyterians and celebrate John Knox’s “could be” 500 th birthday. In celebration of our tradition’s heritage in Scotland, all are encouraged to wear
plaid. This would be a great day to invite a friend!
Who was John Knox and why was he so important to the Reformed Church in Scotland? Continue the conversation about John Knox November 2, 9, and 16 during church
school as Jim Varnado gives an overview of Luther, Calvin, 16th century European Royals, and a study of the life and lasting influence of John Knox.

Reformation Sunday is the day we remember the beginnings of the Protestant church
and its great witness through the years. Reformation Sunday is an anniversary celebration of October 31, 1517, when Martin Luther nailed to a church door his list of 95 statements and complaints about the abuses and wrongful practices of the church. He knew
they would be seen by many, for November 1, All Saints’ Day, was the holy day of obligation, and all the faithful would be in church the next morning. His action initiated the
Protestant Reformation, from which most Protestant denominations, including the Presbyterian Church, developed.

Women’s Thursday Morning Bible Study
The Thursday Morning Bible study is a group of women of all ages and stages in life
coming together for study, prayer and fellowship. We continue our study on the Parables
of Jesus using a video series featuring Dr. Kenneth E. Bailey. Dr. Bailey spent 40 years
teaching New Testament in Egypt, Lebanon, and Jerusalem where he was the Research
Professor of Middle Eastern New Testament Studies at the Tantur Ecumenical Institute.
He provides a fresh perspective on Jesus’ parables with his Middle Eastern understanding. There is no homework or preparation, so just come and bring a friend. We meet at
10:00 a.m. in the Ardmore Room in the Activity Building. Childcare is provided if you let
us know ahead of time. Contact Darryl Ray at [email protected] for more information or to register for childcare.
Have You Visited the Church Library?
It is located at the end of Gallery
Hall across from the Youth Ministry
Office. It is a self-service library.
When you find something you
would like to check out, just sign the
card in the back of the book and put it in the little box on the desk. We have a great children’s section as well as adult’s. The library is a great place to sit quietly and read, to find
reference and resource material for teaching a class, to browse current fiction and to see
what books are on display. It’s your library. We hope you will check it out!
Fall Clean-Up Day–Save the Date!
Saturday, November 8, 8:30–noon
Mark your calendars now and plan to join us for this annual morning of fellowship and service as we work both indoors and outdoors
to care for our beloved space at Highland. A variety of projects will
be included, with something for all ages and abilities.
