January 11, 2015 Welcome to West Highland! Thank you for worshipping with us! ARE YOU A GUEST TODAY? Welcome to West Highland where our doors are wide open to people from all backgrounds, regardless of where they are from or where they’re at on their spiritual journey. One of the rich blessings West Highland enjoys as a local church is the close and cooperative relationships we have with many churches. One of those churches is Hughson Street Baptist in the north end of Hamilton. Hughson was founded in 1887. Its long history points to significant gospel ministry in our city, but during the 1970’s and 80’s the ministry began to wane and the church almost closed in the 90’s. With only a handful of senior citizens left, the church almost voted to close, but instead they made a courageous and faith-filled decision to call a very young man to be their pastor. That was 20 years ago and the young man was Pastor Dwayne Cline. Today, Hughson is a thriving church filled with young people and young couples and families. Its ministries and outreaches are impacting hundreds of families. Like West Highland, they too are getting ready to build and by this time next year they will have functional facilities able to house about 500 people. Today, Hughson is celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Dwayne Cline as their Lead Pastor. This young man is now one of the most respected Christian leaders and pastors in Canada today. God has used Dwayne in incredible ways these past 20 years to revitalize Hughson and make it a great light in our city. My own family has been greatly impacted by his life and ministry. Dwayne has preached at West Highland many times and Hughson‘s ministries are still supported through our missions budget. It is my privilege to be at Hughson today to represent West Highland, preach God’s Word and present Dwayne and his wife, Aimee, with a plaque of appreciation from our church. John Mahaffey, Lead Pastor We would love to get to know you better! Please complete a Welcome Card from the pew rack and place it in the offering plate or give it to someone at the Welcome Centre. Pick up our Welcome Brochure & CD at the Welcome Centre which introduces you to our Ministry Team and outlines many of the ministries and programs we offer.
