Danish Whisky Award
Scottish whisky on top
On Saturday the 18th of October the Danish Whisky Association elected “the best
whisky sold on the Danish market 2014”. The award took place during the event:
”www Falster” at Hotel Falster in Nykoebing Falster. The traditional Scottish whiskies
were back on the top.
During this weekend a large group of whisky enthusiasts selected the best whiskies
in Denmark among 34 different whiskies. This was the 2nd Danish Whisky Award. The
interest and support was positive, so it is definitely an event that will be an annual
award, says Jens-Erik Jørgensen from the Danish Whisky association.
He continues: “Whisky enthusiasts in general (no professionals) tasted and rated the
whiskies. In other words it is the consumers who select the winning whiskies”.
Great comeback for Scottish whisky
Last year Scottish whisky won only 1 category – this year Scottish whisky won 3
categories, so they are back on the throne, tells Jens-Erik Jørgensen.
“Juul's Wine & spirit store” in Copenhagen got most awards with three of the
winning whiskies.
Danish whisky was introduced for the 2nd time
Another focus of the tastings and awards was to focus on Danish whiskies. Denmark
participated, this year, in the awards with seven different whiskies.
Last year there was four whiskies in the competition, and seven this year is very
good, and all the distilleries who has whisky for sale was participated. It was the first
time ever, with a blind tasting with seven whiskies. The quality of the whiskies
seems good for the future, and I am looking forward for next year, Jens-Erik
Jørgensen says.
