The Mosaic of Grief: A Workshop on
Spiritually-Integrated Care
in Times of Loss and Grief
Through “The Mosaic of Grief” Dr. Melissa Kelley will
present contemporary work in grief that challenges
some long-standing assumptions about the grief experience.
Participants will engage the grief experience through a
narrative perspective that considers disruptions to one’s
narrative as one of the primary challenges of grief.
Dr. Melissa Kelley is an Associate Professor of
Pastoral Care and Counseling at the Boston College
School of Theology and Ministry in Massachusetts.
She received a Masters of Arts degree in Pastoral
Ministry from Boston College in 1991 and her Ph.D.
in Pastoral Psychology from Boston University in
2003.
Dr. Kelley has authored a number of publications
on grief and the practice of ministry, including her
2010 book Grief: Contemporary Theory and the Practice
of Ministry (Fortress Press).
Dr. Kelley has also served as a Campus Minister for
Boston College, where she provided pastoral care
and counseling for students and staff and facilitated
grief support groups.
Dr. Kelley is a certified pastoral counselor through
the American Association of Pastoral Counselors
and certified in thanatology through the Association for Death Education and Counseling. She is
also a trained responder through the International

in our search for hope and meaning after loss.
