“Companioning the bereaved is not about
analysing, fixing or resolving another’s grief.
Instead, it is about being totally present
to the mourner, even being a temporary
guardian of his soul.” — DR ALAN WOLFELT
The Grief of
Bereavement:
Companioning
the Bereaved
THURSDAY 23 APRIL 2015
9.30AM – 3.30PM
Treacy Centre
126 The Avenue, Parkville
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
WORKSHOP FACILITATOR
Loss and Spirituality are intimately entwined. Loss forces
change on us. When loss or change comes we are often
unprepared. It is a time of chaos. We may feel totally
tossed off course. The grief of bereavement forces us to
face the deeper questions of our lives; questions about
our relationships, our values and the meaning of our lives.
What is the grief of bereavement in a Christian context?
What enables a person to be totally present to another’s
grief? What hinders? How does a person care for their
own needs as they support another?
Marea Richardson is Registered Guided
Imagery and Music Therapist (Music
Psychotherapy), Accredited Grief and Loss
Counsellor (NALAG) and Spiritual Director
working at Campion Centre of Ignatian Spirituality in Kew.
Marea works within a Christian perspective supporting
people towards greater emotional, spiritual and physical
well-being and has a special interest in supporting
people through bereavement and other grief related
life experiences.
The main focus for this workshop will be:
• Exploring the nature of grief in a Christian context
• Understanding how the type of attachment to the
deceased person influences the grief response
• The Mystery of Suffering
• Being with the bereaved – the role of compassion
• The importance of self awareness and self care
TO REGISTER
Participants will also be enabled, through discussion, case
studies and through the support of music to reflect on
their own experience of grief.
