Dear Student Leader:
Greetings! We hope your summer is going well and you are enjoying the time off! It is that time again for the
Long Island University Bi-Campus Leadership Retreat. This year it will be held from August 24 to August 26 at
the Brooklyn Campus of Long Island University. The retreat will be an overnight event so we expect that you
will come prepared to spend a night on campus in a residence hall. All student organizations are required to
attend this retreat. Any student organization without representation at this retreat will jeopardize their budget
and organization status for the 2011-2012 year. We are enclosing a reservation form for your organization. At
least two executive members of your organization must attend. The conference is limited to student
organization executives, Student Activity Grant Candidates, Resident Assistants (RAs), Alternate RAs and
campus student leaders. In the event that it is impossible for an executive member of a club to attend, you may
have a non-executive member from your student organization attend.
We have a wonderful array of speakers and leadership trainers, which also includes Student Life representatives
from both Brooklyn and C. W. Post campuses, and Res Life representatives, as our facilitators. In addition, you
will hear from LIU President David Steinberg and the Provost of each campus. This leadership retreat is aimed
to enhance your leadership skills and provide an opportunity to gain continued growth within your student
organization. Meals and social activities will be provided in order for you to network and share programming
ideas with your peers/colleagues.
Attached is a tentative schedule for the retreat. Please note that check-in is promptly at 9am on Wednesday,
August 24. Check-in will be located in the courtyard in front of Richard L. Conolly Hall (which is the residence
hall located adjacent to the LIU Bookstore). Meals will be provided as follows:

Check-list of Things to Bring: You will be staying in a residence hall room. Please be prepared with the
following:
♦ Sneakers or comfortable shoes
♦ Jeans, casual clothes
♦ Toiletries (toothpaste, soap, etc.)
♦ An open mind
All workshop sessions and all outings are MANDATORY. Please fill out the attached registration form and
return it to the Office of Student Life and Leadership Development by July 19, 2011. This retreat is for student
organization’s executive boards and specified student leaders only. If you know that you are not able to attend
all the sessions and participate in ALL of the workshops, meals and activities; please designate another student
organization member to attend in your place. If you have questions, please call the Office of Student Life and
