GRADE 7
FORMAL DINNER
A Message from our Principal
We celebrated our Grade 7 formal dinner in style on Wednesday night. The girls’ public speaking
ability is outstanding. It was gratifying to hear past pupil Claire Mc Illory, tell of her happy
experiences at Fatima. She started in grade 000 and so spent 15 years at our school. I am sure this
must be a record! Claire has her own companies, called Pink ink Productions and an on-line
ticketing provider, Webtickets, which has featured some of South Africa’s finest musical talents such
as Johnny Clegg, Mathew Mole, Micasa, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and many more.
Thank you to our Grade 7 moms and teachers, who put so much work into creating a special
evening.
As I write, the marquee is being erected for our Jubilee Ball and there is an air of anticipation in the
school. Our house at no. 8 Norfolk is being transformed into an art gallery and we are very proud of
this new acquisition. Please take a look when you are next at school and don’t miss out on the Art
Exhibition. (See page 7)
Our Matrics are counting days and hours! What a blessed time we had together at the Matric/
teacher dinner this week. We have many very special traditions which cement us together and this
is one of them. Next week will be full of fun and such memorable occasions.
I wish Our Grade 12 girls well as they study for their exams. I know they have been well-prepared by
excellent teaching and rich experience.

GRADE 6 GIRLS VISIT TO THE HOLOCAUST MUSEUM AND ART IN
THE PARK AT BOTANIC GARDENS
The Grade 6 girls have been learning about the horrors of the Jewish
Holocaust and South African apartheid era in their English and History lessons.
They have been reminded of the importance of human rights and the need
to always think of others first. We hope they now have a new appreciation of
how fortunate they are. To consolidate these ideas the grade 6 girls spent a
very interesting morning on Tuesday at The Holocaust Museum where they
were introduced to Anne Frank and could “feel” for themselves the fear and
humiliation she and other Jewish citizens experienced during World War 2.
The girls then visited The Botanic Gardens for “Art in the Park”, where they
completed an art piece incorporating both South Africa’s old and new flags.
During this activity each girl had the opportunity to think about the injustices
of the past and to appreciate our relatively new democracy.
Jade Coetzee wrote these two poems as part of her reflection:
A Poem for the Holocaust
A life in time that has passed,
A life in time that will
stay in our hearts.
A life in time with just fear,
A life in time is gone and clear.
A Poem For The Apartheid
Life in a different colour that is
treated with harm.
With unfair fear and horror
with a pass in their palm.
No life, no freedom!
No time to exist.
What’s the point of living on top of their list?
GRADE 10 AND 11 HISTORY TOUR TO GAUTENG
On the 8th October the grade 10 and 11 History girls embarked on what was to be the most
meaningful and enlightening experience for the subject
this year. They accompanied Clifton College on a tour of
significant South African historical sites in the Gauteng
area during the third term break, with the focus on
Apartheid. It included visits to Smuts House, Union
Buildings, Soweto, Freedom Park, Apartheid Museum and
Lilliesleaf Farm, among others. They even found time to fit
in a spot of shopping at Sandton on the last evening. This
tour was a fun and powerful way for the girls to discover
first-hand the experiences of many during the Apartheid
era.

SPORT – HIGH SCHOOL
KARATE
We congratulate Monique Jackson who received a gold medal
for her Kumite (fighting) and a bronze for her kata in a Karate
Competition that she participated in at the end of last term in
Camps Bay.
TOUCH RUGBY
Hannah Nel, Danny Mendes, Charnel Ueckermann and
Brittany Mowat represented the KZN U19 side, captained
by Fatima Old Girl Michaela Geytenbeek. Old girl
Michaela was chosen as SATA’s Under 19 MVP for the
tournament.
Tayler Brandsma represented the KZN
U17 side. Hannah Maujean and Naomi
Maujean played for the KZN U15 side,
with Hannah captaining the side and
being chosen as KZN’s U15 MVP for the
tournament.
All three teams made it through to the finals with all three losing by the
narrowest of margins in highly competitive finals. U19s lost in a sudden
death drop-off to Western Cape when the scores were tied 4-4 after
normal time. U17s lost to Gauteng 6-5 and the U15s let in a last-minute try
to lose 4-3, also to Gauteng.
It is wonderful to see so many of our girls representing the KZN Teams!

GOLF
Brittney-Fay Berger travelled to Cape Town
these holidays to play in the Ladies IPT at Royal
Cape. This is the top Ladies inter-provincial
tournament of the year, and is a true
challenge to the country’s top lady
amateurs. As a result, the course is lengthened
and
set
up
as
a
very
tough
challenge.
Brittney-Fay
had
a
great
tournament, qualifying as KZN’s top player with
an opening qualifying round of 3 over par. The
team had a very exciting tournament to finish
with a close 2nd place in the A2 division. This is
a tough and testing tournament as they play 5
days of 36 holes a day - so exhausting mentally
and physically for all participating, yet KZN
managed a very spirited fight in the final round.
Congratulations go to Brittney-Fay who has been selected to represent SA in a tournament
to be held in India at the end of November this year. Only 4 junior players are selected to
play in this large international field, so it is a huge honour for Brittney-Fay to have been
chosen.
What great news, Brittney-Fay!
SOCCER
Daniela Mendes attended the capping ceremony at the end of
last term for the KZN Teams that travelled to Johannesburg for their
matches. Daniela was part of the KZN U19 Girls Team.
Well done, Daniela!
