CAR FOR SALE
Holy Family is selling our 2002 Honda Civic EX 4
door sedan. The vehicle is black and the odometer
reading shows 174,000 miles. The car was driven by
two nuns to help them fulfill their mission in the
Albemarle area. Our asking price is $2,900. The
vehicle has been checked over mechanically, some
minor repairs have been made and the engine has
been cleaned. The vehicle is available for inspection
and/or a test drive during parish office hours weekdays 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

supported by over 36,000 volunteers. Here in Pasquotank
County, Kairos serves at the Pasquotank Correctional Institution bringing the light and healing of Christ to hearts that have
been hurt and hardened. Be a part of this powerful ministry by
attending a training session before the 4-day retreat inside PCI.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Each year on the second Saturday of October, and throughout all eight deaneries of our Diocese, we observe Hispanic
Heritage Month, celebrating the many blessings Our Lord has
given us through the members of our diocesan family who have
come from Latin America. In this celebration we are reminded
of the great gift of our catholicity, the universality of our faith
among those who come to our Diocese from throughout the
world and who each share our common faith in the Lord.
I invite you to join me in solidarity and prayer for the
celebrations being observed in your local deanery, that they
each may be a source of renewal in understanding and love of
Christ, but also a reminder of how we are each called to be of
service to Our Lord, His Church and Her mission here in
eastern North Carolina.
May Our Lord continue to bless us with the rich heritage of
faith among all who are now part of our Diocesan family and
may Mary, Mother of the Church, protect and guide you and
your loved ones always.

World Mission Sunday
October 19, 2014 is World Mission
Sunday, a day when we not only pray
for those most in need in our world, but
also assist them by our annual special collection,
which assists missionaries throughout the world in
providing direct service as they spread the Good
News of Jesus Christ to all people. While we may
not serve as missionaries, we do participate in their
work in attending to those who are poor, the sick,
and the downtrodden of the world, as we support
missionary efforts through our prayer and financial
support. Thank you for your great generosity.

LA SACRAMENTALIDAD DEL MATRIMONIO
VIENE DEL DOMINGO PASADO:
Las Summas Teológicas de los siglos XII y XIII formularon ya las
definiciones sistemáticas de los sacramentos, pero tiene un significado
particular la definición de Santo Tomás: "Non omne signum rei sacrae est
sacramentum, sed solum ea quae significant perfectionem sanctitatis
humanae" (3.ª qu. 60, a. 2). Desde entonces se entendió como "sacramento" exclusivamente cada
una de las siete fuentes de la gracia y los estudios de los teólogos
apuntaron sobre la profundización de la esencia y de la acción de los siete
sacramentos, elaborando, de manera sistemática, las líneas principales
contenidas en la tradición escolástica.
Sólo en el último siglo se ha prestado atención a los aspectos del
sacramento, desatendidos en el curso de los siglos, por ejemplo a su
dimensión eclesial y al encuentro personal con Cristo, que han
encontrado expresión en la Constitución sobre la Liturgia (núm. 59). Sin
embargo, el Vaticano II torna, sobre todo, al significado originario del
"sacramentumm-misterium", denominando a la Iglesia "sacramento de
la íntima unión con Dios y de la unidad de todo género humano" (Lumen
gentium, 1). Aquí entendemos el sacramento -de acuerdo con su
significado originario- como realización del eterno plan divino referente a
la salvación de la humanidad. Pregunta para reflexionar: ¿Qué se

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE - La Virgen María tiene siglos de estar apareciéndose a los cristianos. Aún antes de que fuese
asunta al cielo, ella ya se le había aparecido al apóstol Santiago en Zaragoza, España. Según una antigua leyenda, Santiago llegó a
tierra española en el año 40 para predicar el Evangelio. Tuvo poco éxito y desanimado pensaba sacudirse de los pies el polvo de
aquella tierra y buscar convertir otras gentes. Mientras estaba en oración, María, la madre de Jesús, se le apareció con palabras de
consuelo, ánimo y un pequeño obsequio. Le dio una imagen de ella misma sobre un pilar y con el Niño Jesús en brazos.
En esa tierra ella pidió la construcción de un templo donde ella misma sería altar para la gloria de Dios. Santiago mismo
construyó la primera iglesia donde hoy se encuentra una gran basílica en honor de Nuestra Señora del Pilar. En el siglo XVIII, el
Papa Clemente XII declaró el 12 de octubre como su fiesta en memoria de la llegada de los europeos al continente americano. De
